I decided to play all spyros levels before I saw this vid, and i died a couple of hundred times more then ryu
I actually found the Spyro levels a few days upon getting Mario maker 2 for the first time a few weeks ago, and i love em.
Yeah I even had the world record on Alpine Hills but someone managed to shave a little time off.
Level like that isn't fair

Something I love about Expert levels is that they really do feel like an actual Mario level. Super Expert can be kind of a shitshow with all the hot garbage, Expert (at least these popular ones) I can imagine being tough stages in a real Mario game
I do believe this is due to these levels being popular. If he went for the uncleared expert only, you'd see a mix of hot garbage and great levels at the same place. DGR has an uncleared level series and it shows just that: great and garbage levels alike. =)

If you go to popular super expert you also find good levels. Sure, maybe not something Nintendo would actually make but still good.
@@hulkrae Many uncleared expert levels find themselves in super expert by the time they get a clear.
I find the populer expert levels to be more of the "hold right super expert levels" variety. they're hard enough that someone new to mario would be struggling, but easy enough that someone who plays super expert can usually 1-shot them. This was pretty much what I saw in this video, and it was clear that Ryu doesn't really understand the difficulty gap between them (especially because super expert doesn't have an upper limit to difficulty, so you can get quite a range).

I got a level just like that one as one of my first ever levels playing SMM2; forced death and everything. I thought, "So THIS is SMM2.. what the heck!? So cool.
Roll a dice and what ever number you get is how many lives you can spend on the level

Yes, the clear of the puzzle house should absolutely count. You followed the creator's arrow to your death, and it wasn't a troll - it was the actual way to beat the level. Sure, there's some dev path to beat the level without that death - but the creator didn't include that so that they wouldn't have to beat their own level the intended way. Rather, they included it because they had no other choice, having to comply with Nintendo's rule that you have to be able to clear the level from the start in one go. (A rule that in all cases except something like this is a very good one.) You beat it the intended way and only died the one time the creator designed it for you to die. I see no good reason why it wouldn't count.
Also, that level was amazing. Such a great creepy, puzzly ghost house level.

I really enjoy this kind of series. I think it's nice to watch you play a variety of good levels. Whether they're kaizo or not, this was pretty much an entire video of really fun looking levels. This is my favorite kind of SMM content. I used to really love creator showcases you used to do more during SMM1. I remember you introduced me to Nintendo Addict who made really awesome, but extremely challening New Supe levels. This video had that vibe with all of the Spyro levels.

I love this series, and it is a great idea. I probably should be doing my own little spin on challenging myself in Mario Maker 2, whenever I get back to it.

This was a fun video, I would love for this to be a whole series. Just trying to beat the PB and see how far he can go with just 1 life. Reminds me of when he used to do this back in original Mario Maker.
Definitely continue this series! The wide difficulty range in expert levels (from pretty easy to surprisingly hard) makes the challenge unpredictable and exciting!

I'm guessing you wouldn't have died if you would have hit the p switch in the death room. It looks like a door was indicated there, probably a p door.
The P Switch Door is always outlined. I didn't see any P Switch Door in that room (or that level, for that matter). But I do think the P Switch would be the answer for going through that level without dying. Maybe there was a door in the death pit and a row of blocks would solidify so he could enter it. I don't know. =)
you can see the exit P Switch door above the big boo on the left at 31:33. Don't know where the entrance door was though, might have been hidden off screen?

You should do 1000 expert levels in a row like Poo Bear. Even when the levels aren't great the quest for more lives is always interesting. Real stakes with every video.

Someone should make a wheel you spin, it has 10 challenges on it, and you can apply it to an Expert Run or Super Expert Run. The goal is try to complete 10 levels in a row but at the start of each level you pause to spin the wheel, to see your challenge for this level. My ideas for challenges are the following.
1: Coin Collector (All coins MUST be gotten by the end of the level)
2: Bankrupt (Not allowed to get a single coin in the level)
3: I'm Late! (You must Speedrun the level)
4: Not Today (Skip the level, doesn't count towards completing 10 levels)
5: Pogo Time! (You must constantly be jumping)
6: True Hero (No power ups allowed, must complete the level as small Mario)
7: T-Minus 100 (You have 100 seconds to beat the level)
8: Only Human (You get 1 life, run ends if you die)
9: Life Support( You must get three 1-ups by the end of the level, flagpole can count as one of the 1-ups)
10: Hero of Legend (Take no damage, kill every possible enemy, 1 shot the level)

I like this. It's a sight-reading challenge. It's about being able to quickly and effectively read a level, which is a skill of it's own.
That ghost house level changes the rooms because it's actually the same door or pipe(no glitches), but the autoscroll starts at the other side(even though it doesn't start moving). So it's the same room but you the sections on either side at different times.

I always love the rounds where you die right at the flag and pause. Lets me look at the "no clear condition set" and makes me laugh.
Challenge idea, play through an expert level without dying once but to win you have to get world record, but you can retry as many times as you want as long as you beat the stage without ever dying on any attempt

I think the Ghost House counts, because
the act of dying actually beat the level. It should still end the run, though, so I'd count this as "Two five-level runs" in this video.

I always liked the 100 man runs where you started with one life, but got to collect lives as you go.
Honestly, this turned into one of my favorite challenges! I would love to see more of these. Or, now hear me out, do this challenge but with speedruns!
In spite of knowing how long the video was, that first run still felt super tense. The rest made it feel inconsequential. I think Ryu's rule should be of he dies, he has to play his guitar for the rest of the run time, or check Reddit, or do commentary on an old VOD, or ANYTHING but pay the game. Basically, death = no more gameplay. Keep the stakes and the suspense high.
8:42 is when he dies. 11:23 too.. 13:32 as well... and my personal favorite is 16:52.... 19:52 he shows you his cheek tattoo..... 31:05 we get lewds...... and last but not least, 33:02 is the death of the video.......
I hope Ryu keeps this series going then does another video of all the defeat levels and goes through them to see which ones he still cant clear in one shot.
I love all these “1 life” style challenges -may I suggest a minor tweak? If you get a checkpoint, you can restart from that checkpoint ONCE. Makes longer levels more feasible while still keeping the tension high. Also means fewer “abandoned” levels, which are never as fun to see.
This may make more sense for harder challenges, like super expert ones, but really anything that’s on the more difficult side,
Hey Ryu, it would be fun as a challenge if you play the most popular levels in order, every time you die you start over from the first level and see within a given time limit how many level you can clear!
