That geo-tex fabric is definitely great for building roads and other structures in soggy areas. On another note, when it's a personal project, it's never a road to nowhere. It's a road to where you want to be.
I like that way of thinking!
Well Said @baronclime6423
@@DieselCreekI agree Love his way of thinking as well
I cannot believe how much work you do ALONE. I admire you Matt. Greetings from downunder Australia
Your dump Skills and Driving That dump truck backwards gotten way More precise matt Wow You dumped The first load Of Gravel Very Smoothly Nice Work 8:57 @Diesel Creek
Hey guy , my name is Carl , & I've watched your channel for a couple years and I really like your content. I'm a retired mechanic myself and I like your work on old equipment, fixing stuff instead of replacing everything without trying to fix it first. Have a blessed day.
Wow That hill without the Trees Looks Super Steep Matt and That Little Canal Or Muddy river looks Neet With the old school bridge 0:16 @Diesel Creek
As entertaining as your videos are, never sell short the knowledge that you’re imparting on people from these videos, especially the earlier ones. Been watching you for a few years now. I trade iron as a day job (RB videos really speak to me lol) but have been accumulating some machines over the past year or two for property improvements on a chunk of land we bought, and now have people calling me for side work, which really helps justify to the wife why I need to own all this stuff. Came back to this video since I stepped up yesterday from a 1-ton dump truck to a ‘99 International 4900 with a 466/Allison and was looking for inspiration. Just wanted to say thanks for teaching the people that didn’t grow up doing this kind of stuff or ever had a job doing road work, etc how to do it!
Well said @AuctionJunky
My wife constantly asks me "why do you watch this random stuff?"
And I tell her "because some day I might want to do (insert task here), and this education is free *and* interesting."
And besides, who *wouldn't* want to know how to build a road. Am I right?!?!
Lmao I 100% agree with you mate 🤣🤣
My wife asked me the same thing about porn, and I told her the same thing you did, that some day I might want to do this and I'm learning for free and besides who else would want to know how to fool around with 4 girls at a time , am I right !?!? LOL ! !
Max I agree with you.
i find it very soothing. just looking at people that knows stuff!
Work is fascinating. I can watch someone else work all day long! It is educational also.
Honestly, one of the best parts about your videos is when you teach/explain what you're doing and why. These teaching moments help people like me avoid "bumps in the road" when doing similar work..... whenever that may be lol.
..lookin' good, the little truck did a great job..the road should stand up well...keep safe...
Thanks for The Entertaining Videos Matt enjoyed this one As Always love the Arial Shots at the end Just a stunning piece of land 32:53 @Diesel Creek
Did the gravel driveway to my shop years ago and did not use a liner. No visible gravel anymore, it all sunk in. When I redo it I will definitely use that liner this time.
Hu, f
sweet HyperLapse Footage Matt of stripping the top soil rolling the Fabric and Dumping and Leveling the rock 21:07 @Diesel Creek
It's nice to see you finally dumping layers in motion in stead of spreading out piles.
The way you back up and drop your load is very nicely done
Hi there Matt from the east coast of Australia N.S.W 🤠🇦🇺.. I just wanted to say thankyou very much for your time making these videos for us to come along with you as you transform your beautiful property you have there. You should be extremely proud of yourself for all your hard work mate. And you have some very cool toys too. Keep up the fantastic work brother. Cheers 🍻 buddy you take care. 🤠🤝
I think it's great that you have magically disappearing gates. (at 9:21 and other times) You back up to them and they magically disappear ! :-)
Watch the movie "Temple Grandin", she conceived and constructed a farm gate out of wood, so that you don't have to get out, it open & closes. She had no formal training in carpentry, etc. 2 thumbs up! She is the leader in animal husbandry, handling. She and I are both Asperger's (Aspies), so is Greta Thunberg. Google famous Aspies, you will be stupefied!
I really do like seeing all of what you show. all is good here. be safe. 2.11.24 Happy Superbowl Sunday to you. k
Dude. You're a hard working guy - by yourself - it takes time and resources - both of which are in short supply. Keep Up The Good Work!!
Worth pulling the shift tower off, look below on the trans case where it meets the shift tower and check and make sure all the detent balls and springs for the shift rail are in place. Should be three of them. Be careful pulling it apart sometimes the springs will stick to the shift tower and you don't want to drop one down in the case. The slave valve can also cause it to be hard to get into/keep in gear especially if someone crammed the shift tower down on top of the rod without pressing it in to the valve first, lol. Lastly you can pull the rail and fork section off the top of the case and make sure a fork isn't damaged or bent and also inspect the sliding clutch and corresponding gear for 4th/9th. Chances are the sliding clutch and/or gear are chipped up, wore out, etc., from abuse and will need to be replaced. Rebuilt an 8LL last year with the same issue in 4th/8th and the sliding clutch gear and drive gear were all chewed up.
yes im pretty cretin thats what im going to find. been too stinking hot to mess with it lately!
I love that u floored it under the bridge. I was cheering the whole time. Also thanks for taking the time to explain everything for us
Hey Matt, Great video, got a lot done! I love to see progress on the farm. Keep it up mate, have a great week!
Awesome thanks for the comment!!
Another day, another thousand dollars.
Brotha no more true comment has ever been left
@@DieselCreek J. Paul Getty was reportedly the richest man in the world. He died in 1976. He reportedly said, "A billion dollars isn't what it used to be." I hope that puts everything into perspective.
SPENT!
Getting that roadbed solid is well worth the effort for sure. Fighting a wet hole in the road wears on you over time and it just gets bigger as you edge over for some solid ground. Growing up a poor farm kid I know that well. Having a dump truck and a machine sure takes a lot of back breaking labor away.
I think your back up dumping is good enough brother and I’ve seen many times the road fabric is used on Letsdig18 videos! Chris does excellent work with dozers, excavators and pretty much anything he has! I’ve learned a lot from him! You’re doing a good job my friend! I enjoy all of your videos too! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video. Congratulations for getting so much done. Others want to see the autocar and want to see updates on the church project. Have a great weekend.
Beautiful place! We did a lot of the same here on our 43 acres. I have a 1974 Ford L9000N dump truck, hauled lots and lots of gravel in it..
Beautiful place Matt. i love the ride along with in the truck.
Great job on driveway.
Just do what you can do
and dont worry about what
people say.
Sometimes you can adjust the shifter to prevent that popping out of gear. I think they call the part a yoke. But I am no expert on it. I will say that 2x video speed in reverse makes that engine sound like a two cycle Jimmy. Lol
I also want to tell your buddy the only reason I watch these videos is his super cool music. But I due like the playing in the dirt, messing with junk equipment and remodeling homes that should have been torn down. Because it seems like my project. Geez we both could be gluttons for punishment.
You could build a tadpole pond... lol. Also, I like how the dog knows exactly where to stay when you're working.
I can see now why you wanted a grader Matt; when it's up and running you'll have a billiard table level drive. Looking forward to seeing it up and running.
About 100 years there were public minor roads in UK BT42 like that where contractors had access to any property to have stone - usually basalt. The drainage was shaped by where the surface drain {gutter} had to be shaped by a bucket diameter.
Love the sound of gravel outta a dump truck in the morning. ... keep up the good work.
this is the best intro riff on the Tubes.... that Geo fabric is the same way they make Kevlar. If you paid 300 for one roll...2yrs ago...I can't imagine what it cost now. as for the frogs and toades. Even without your construction...90% of them wouldn't make it,.... by design
Nice and Silver Maple in the same sentence...something you don't hear everyday.
About stone aggregate: I have seen large 11/2" stone put down first, then 1/ 2" bluestone (drive way type) , next, then gone over with vibratory roller. Next, crushed bluestone dust, then vibratory roller again. Then wet down really well, then more dust, then wet, and rolled again....soynds like a lit if work, but that roadway was as if made of concrete, and I mean SMOOTH. I saw the roadway 2 years later, and it was still as good as when first done.
The stone dust "locked " everything together I couldn't believe how well it worked....!!!!!
Good stuff they use it out here in Oklahoma when building roads. Use that leaner for fire wood.Good job now you have fire wood.
Driveway is looking great.
Fantastic job.
Great job Matt ! Thanks for your channel bro !!!
Still trying to get caught up on all of your construction and I have to tell you, you are doing a fantastic job! Love everything about your channel and your videos! Keep up the great work!
O
I was wondering why you could,nt spread yourloads backward till you did it on the last one... 👍😀
Great vid. I often debate scooping vs. dragging the bucket along, trying to act like a grader and avoid having to dump with the skidsteer. But a day in the outdoors is better than one in the office....glad I have at least one son that eats this stuff up all day to help out!!
Hi Matt you can only do one job at a time yes we all would like to see you start on the autocar but until you can get in and out of the workshop in any weather we will just have to be pashent and wait until everything else is done, we will see you become a dump truck driver and a stone spreader before much longer I used to spread stone with a tractor trailer outfit hear in the UK so it's not so hard to do practice make's perfect, another great video Matt.👌👌 mick.
I can do it forward no problem but backward is a lot tougher, especially with the bigger stone. My truck needs a lower reverse to make it easier
At 32:31 you did a good job tail spreading in reverse. Practice makes perfect. You might consider an Allison AT-540 transmission as a replacement for the 10 speed. I know the Road Ranger is more fun and manlier to drive. The Allison will be easier in the drive train and driver. I'm a retired road maint worker.
I used to be dead set against automatics but I am warming up to the idea. Had some bad experiences with them early on in my working life
@@DieselCreek I've worked for companies that used Automatics in over the road and construction. Always had good service from them. We had 6 International Paystar 5000 tractors with V-8/92 Detroit engines and HT750 Allisons that were worked hard. Of course your Roadranger would be more economical to rebuild which it seems you can do yourself. It sounds like someone spent a lot of hours in 9th gear and shifting between 9th and 10th without using the clutch. The syncronizers and detents may be worn out. Thank you for replying to me.
I broke a hydraulic fitting on the grapple cylinder on my Bobcat. Thank goodness for safety glasses because it sprayed directly into my face. It was a bad fitting and had held together since new in 1995.
Enjoying your channel!
Yep hyd fluid in the eye would be a bad day!
I almost got brake fluid in the eye once. Was trying to find where the leak was coming from. Once I had someone push the pedal it came shooting out right next to me
What ever you put up for a video is good with me. I like them all. When you get to the autocar you that will be another good video.
How brave you are doing that amazing job on your own! Congratulations and greetings from Belgium.👍👏👏👏
Concrete, gravel and mulch never go as far as you think it will
Add time and money to that.
jay west it's always way to little or way too much. lol
I'm such a sucker for big internationals like that. I wouldn't mind having that little skid-steer either!
The little dump truck?
Tailgating skills are the balls...and look effortless when you see them done correctly. Nice work.
It's hard to prove that you were intentionally brake checked in court when the inevitable happens and you rear end the vehicle in front of you though.
Minus Mufflers pretty sure he’s referring to spreading stone with the dump truck instead of just dumping it in a big pile. It’s known as tailgating stone
Thanks mat for another great video hope to see you soon with another one thank you and God bless
I recognize and appreciate your hard work and determination.
Seeing these videos.. I remember Bob the builder cartoon.. you have all the facility for construction all sort of things...
Wow it's seriously impressive how fast you work!
That’s the power of editing! Lol
We live on 9 acres and I see myself doing at least half of Matt’s projects, so this class is perfect for me!
I enjoy watching these types of construction videos, and have my favorites but this video surpasses them all... Well done Sir !!!
Great work on the driveway project. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Chains on your tailgate will give you help for an even controlled spread. Allows you to reverse spread or forwards. Great Channel mate 👍😅
As I've said before you are always doing interesting things, Thanks for the education!
A trick that I learned recently for gravel driveways is to put the truck in reverse and slowly let out the gravel as you drive backwards it spreads it over a large area making it easier for you seems to stay pretty centered on the truck would just need to be flattened out at that point
LOL just saw you use the trick on the end of the video 😂
Love your videos
Driveway is looking good so far! You are making good progress. Thanks for sharing it with us.
15:00 I was about to say stop, it's gettin worse and worse the more you work it, then I realized ... haha
You’re a machine! Nice work as always. And thank YOU for sharing the projectification. 👍👍
Thank you so much for the t shirt. I already ordered another one from you today. They are of great quality and they fix awesome so thanks for that. I ordered the one with the autocar on the front of it..I look forward to seeing it in about 5 days.
Gravel hauling -- what fun! Our "local" quarry is a couple of hours away from the houses, so no matter which way we cut it it's only two loads per day. Three loads per day if we're working down the back end of the property (because the quarry is closer). OTOH we can haul 55 tonnes per trip, so fewer trips than with a rigid truck.
And I hate changing hydraulic hoses. Of all the design criteria for a machine, accessibility for changing hoses seems to be so far down the list that I'm sure the engineers deliberately make design decisions to actively make them more difficult to change!
Enfineers are not users, that's where your problem is ladies....
That said, you can build a road for me any day, fine job.
all in the way one looks at it. The road may be home for some.
Looking great keep up the good videos and the good work.
Good to see Roscoe out there supervising, showing you low spots to move the gravel to Matt. By my calculations you laid down almost 1,000 feet of the plastic so you moved how many tons of rock? Great video as always Matt and I look forward to your next episode. I hope you and yours are healthy and safe and cheers from this old retired coot along for your journey living in Tennessee.❤️👍😷🍻✌️
cool video, once again. You are doing a great job, as far as I can tell
Matt if you dug a few drainage ditches you could dry your land out very fast. Even if the Ditch has no lower land to let the water flow they still work.
You might call Dirt Perfect over in Indiana. He might sell you his 8500 tandem. He bought a 6x6 mil, added a tag axle and a brand new bed. He should be done with it before spring. It has a custom exhaust pipe system and it sounds great.
Nice job spreading with the tailgate.
Great job mate don't let people push you around too much. You're getting way more done then me and it's dry and summer here for 9-10 months of the year..... go figure. No head of to you.
You are a hard worker-admirable
Interesting 'stuff' Diesel Creek is! Keep up the good work.
Glad you were able to start finishing off your farm 'highway'. Being on the farm this winter will be SO much easier with a good, solid road. 👊💪😍👍 Gotta be honest, I was a bit leery when I saw you drop the old church concrete there, but, voila, it works! P.S. Wow, the skid steer is like new! It's great you have the skills to repair your equipment.
You the man! You use that machine like hands!
Driveway looks great, great video. I look foreword to more
When I drove dump truck, I loved dumping & spreading, I got pretty good at spreading backwards.
I have a 1975 Kenworth W900A single screw with a 5 yard box that routinely hauls 7 when I can avoid the chicken coops. It does take some intestinal fortitude to haul that many loads in that short space of time with a baby truck. Good little trucks though, yours and mine. The road's coming along nicely.
Aww At the Baby Toads Or Baby frongs And the Tadpoles there to Cute We have around 50 Plus Thousand Toads and Frogs during the Monsoon Season here in my section of az We also Have A Massive Field Right next to my house and Over 200 miles of farms Next to me in all Directions there The one thing i look forward to other then the rain Is the toads and Frogs and Tadpoles they est all the bugs in My wifes Massive Gardens 3:33 @Diesel Creek
Funny thing Matt: in loads of RUclips videos, speeded-up footage means poor quality content and you can't really see what's going on. When you're grading/levelling/spreading, the speeded-up footage actually gives us a *better* view of what you're doing. It's maybe just me but I think it makes much more sense when you speed it up a bit. We see the big picture that way, rather than just watching the machine plodding back and forth. It makes it much easier to see what you're trying to achieve. Very theraputic too.👍👌
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
Yes I agree, I try to show a bit of both to keep everyone happy and also so you can see what it looks like when you are really doing the work, results are not instant, takes time to make it pretty!
@@DieselCreek My wonderment, is there a way to reduce the speed up by 1/2, that would be the most comfortable, it's an eye / brain thing, to fast it overloads the visual data coming in to the brain plus the data loss in tracking everything. Vertigo and headache are symptoms of overload. Do some research, contact the GoPro people and video editing / playback software people.
Nice job as usual!!! Going to be a nice road.
FORD ALL THE WAY!!!!! No matter what size 100 thru 800... Engines may be a different matter.
If you change that transmission try a Super 10, then you can drive it like a 5 speed when empty. Super 10's you split every gear like the high side of a 13 speed.
That’s how I drive this one, it’s got a hi/lo and you really only need low when you are loaded or pulling out on a slope
June 5, 2021, binge-watching Diesel Creek. It's going to be a good day.
That little skid steer sure dose a lot of work .The road is starting to take shape ,it will be nice for you to be able to get to the shop without running in the mud .Take care , see ya .😊😊👍✌
You can gather up that topsoil and put it on the borrow area for the quote dream shop
Dad bought a very tired White cabover and tilt-bed back in the early 80's. Truck had the Road Ranger 10-speed in it. I could drive the shit out of it, but it frustrated Dad to no end that he couldn't really get the hang of no-clutch shifting. Made a smart-ass early 20-something laugh his ass off when his dad ground the gears. 😁
I think you should consider adding some finner rock like 3/4 minus before your done. It will lock in the existing rock and make the whole road more durable.
I’ll be adding that or millings about 6” thick it’s no where near done
They make the fabric around here in Georgia. It is REALLY good stuff.
Hey. This is the guy who used to be W71 Mack in honor of Dr. Bill Comcowich. Glad to see some of these ride-along shots. Eventhough they are much different compared to when Lindsay ran things. If St. Louis does get the pick for 2023, which of course I suggested, and if that stupid virus is over by then, we really could do a meetup.
That skid steer saw that tree and well the little engine that could.
Very informative video, Matt. From what I've read in recent years since I left PA for the West, you do a heck of a lot better job at building a road than PENNDOT...😉👍 And I wondered why you didn't roll-and-spread your rock sooner, obviously saves you a lot of back-and-forth time. You're getting the hang of it, keep on rollin'. Beautiful scenery on the country roads. As I've mentioned before I miss the greenery of my native PA. 😊👍👍
Tell those people to take a chill, Go at your own pace. You ve done a hell of a job as is. Keep up the good work.
Glad I waited for the end before asking why don't you use the bulldozer :) Awesome project, kind of like watching David and Goliath go toe to toe.
That was oddly peaceful and fun to watch!
Another great video, as the man said, doing right ain’t got no end.
He also ended up on his own sword! LOL!
Reverse tail-gating can be tricky, but once you get it down to a habit, it saves you a ton of time on grading and equipment wear and tear.
Love them old trucks! 😊
