  • Transcription is the synthesis of mRNAs from a double-stranded DNA template. Not all DNA viral genomes are ready for transcription, so upon entry into the cell they must converted into dsDNA. In this lecture, we discuss DNA dependent RNA polymerase, regulation of transcription by viral proteins, positive feedback loops and transcriptional cascades, RNA processing, the addition of 5'-cap, poly(A) tail, splicing, and RNA export, methylation of mRNA and the numerous small RNAs in cells and their functions.

    - Who Am I? -
I’m Vincent Racaniello, Earth’s Virology Professor, and I believe that education should be free.
I’m also a professor of virology at Columbia University in New York. I’ve been doing research on viruses since 1976, and teaching virology in classrooms and online since 1999. On this RUclips channel I share videos of my lectures, podcasts, and more.
New videos are uploaded several times each week.
I do not run ads on our work as it is disruptive to learning. We depend on your support.

Although I am going to need to watch this more than once to try to absorb it, I was able to get that capsid proteins would of course be made late and why. This is also the part of the course where you can see why non expert influencers look so foolish when asserting anything about virology or molecular biology in general. There are no shortcuts to learning this knowledge and we are lucky to have professionals willing to publish it for free with no commercials.

A Wuhan virologist walks into a pub and the barman asks is that a text book in your pants or are you just excited to see me. The virologist replies I'm excited because I just downloaded a copy of "Principles of Virology" for free as education should be free, like Queen...
