I really appreciate guide videos from speedrunnes. Very accurate and informative, and contains a lot of deeper insights that's not usually mentioned anywhere else. Thanks Xan for taking your time making this, I learned a lot!
I can see good use of rage slash with the new armor. Taking damage gives you dragonblight, which gives you attack damage, it also gives you resentment which also gives you more damage, along with wex 3.
accurate and concise, good shit i'm very interested to see how TCS vs RS develops with more monsters added, the gameplay differences in how we deliver max damage are a cool new thing for GS
I dunno if this is already known but Guard Tackle can activate Offensive Guard! So my new favorite strategy as of now is to have 3 levels of OG and Guard Tackle as my switch skill. DPS-wise it's quite inferior to more conventional set ups, but it's very fun. I pair it with Rage Slash because Rage Slash is much easier to use than TCS.
Some corrections for the video following new updates: 12:28 The ability to preserve the damage multiplier by using tackle and adamant slash has been removed. 14:26 The only Apex monster that is better with Rage Slash is Zinogre. He wasn't in the game when the video was made. Don't try to use TCS on that guy, seriously.
Fresh off a challenge run with Demo GS set with only Hunting Edge, and I have to say: Going back to Adamant Slash threw me off madly, I got too used to HE
When I needed to break magnamalo back for scute+ hunting edge was necessary, but beyond that ya I never use it anymore either. Edit: I use it against Narwa and Ibushi as well.
Does the guard tackle activate offensive guard? If so then it could maybe have some niche uses against certain monters, though that's asking for a lot of different skills on a build.
So, i'm just curious. I'm starting to try GS and when i looked up potential builds on Yt, i noticed that almost no one used Diablos's GS. Why is that? Diablo's GS has a RampUp skill that nullifies sharpness reductions from blocking. Which, isn't that kinda op? Also, can Offensive Guard be activated through Guard Tackle? And yeah, Guard Tackle having a long ass starting animation is the reason why i'm kinda hesitate from using it
This is going to be good! I can't wait to see what you have to say about Hunting Edge because i can barely find a use for it unlike every other GS Switch Skill. Edit: Ok Hunting Edge is more useless then i thought lol
imo hunting edge needs to do more damage than TCS to justify taking it over ACS its a double whammy of ACS being amazing and current HE being awful, it wasnt even used in the demo where ACS didnt exist, pretty grim state
Am I missing something? Everyone is praising ACS to the heavens, but I can't seem to aim it. If I go to the left and then try to hit the monster to the right, it will hit in a completely different direction. Is it just one of those things where you only use the actual hit when you're going to the monster in a straight line?
Yeah it works. What Sam said basically. You need to guard an attack with the first few frames to activate the skill, and because GT is long this might actually cause you to miss the opening afterwards so it is generally not worth using.
Guard tackle seems to be like "meh.." but what i really want to know if does it benefit from "offensive guard skill" to gain additional attack, if it does i wanna test it out on a bludgeoner GS build but i still lack some armor skill and decos to test it out. it might not deal some devastating damage but i think it's still fun to try.
Offensive guard works, but you need to time it so you guard the hit with the first few frames of the animation. This paired with how long the animation is, makes offensive guard very rarely useful.
Idk if this works on elemental damage as well but I heard from testing that a lvl 3 Rage Slash also triples the status modifier from the GS as well This can be seen by one-shot-proc ing the training dummy using a chameleos GS
I actually started GS with the default options ie. hunting edge and I really like it ! I don't aim to be optimal, since it's not one of my main weapons.
@@XanMH1 isn't hunting edge plunge made for element attacking? I mean like with poison swords or any other element. Because I know it's mostly a raw weapon, but element is there and I want to somehow use it
Not worth it. You can fit more charge levels on every single opening with focus so you deal more damage. If you want rage slash to last longer you can tackle to save your MV multiplier so that becomes a non-issue as well. The lowest I've seen people go is focus 2, and that's only for very specific speedrun strats, I don't recommend going below 3 at all for general gameplay, rage slash or not.
The whole of Greatsword has been lost its aesthetic, it worked in world where the monsters were more rounded animation and aesthetic wise, copy and pasting TCS horrible commitment, as well as tackles uselessness when it comes to late hunts and the move outright imo, to an older less polished version of Monster Hunter should have been a cardinal sin. Players should have advocated to rework Greatsword such as the B+B+B combo (Xbox) and the X+Y attack, and reimagine Greatsword to actual work more fluidly. Where monsters like Magnamolo, and Apexes doing continent destroying attacks and your character trying to tank in Monster Hunter Rise is outdated idea.
Let's really talk about it... Greatsword's moveset is still ass... *_▪AAA:_* Still unused and completely irrelevant and should have been reworked along with hunting horn... *_▪X+A:_* Is literally still in the game despite being the least used attack in Monster Hunter history... It is expressed as "hitting tails"... Absolutely absurd and utterly ridiculous... No monster in the game stays still long enough for this attack to be attempted as well as how slow it is and the recovery is also bad. I never understand how these things pass especially since Hunting Horn was reworked... *_▪Hunting Edge:_* *sigh*... -You can absolutely tell Rise is a Longsword game... which is why us Greatsword users wasted money on the delux addition... Who designed this attack, they didn't play World or understand Greatsword, the game... or had any knowledge on what they were doing... at all. They should be suspended.- This ability is simply bad... Aerial Greatsword was never a good idea and being so vulnerable in air is not the identity of a Greatsword player, turning Greatsword into a insect glaive was less than a bad idea... it was sheer ignorance and stupidity; you can achieve the same effect of this ability with less cost just normally jumping with wire bug and attacking... *_▪Tackle:_* May leave you out of positioning 80% of the time due to monsters attacking haphazardly around you with arms, legs, tails, stomachs, blast, fireballs, waterguns, mud, farts... fucking bubbles... as well as unpunishable attacks such as charges, leaps, flame trails, etc... *_▪Guard Tackle:_* -Greatsword has way too many ultra-high-committment attacks, and now a ultra-high-committment defensive ability that- has very good guard capabilities but has a very, very strange hit box at the tip of the blade that is a literal headache to aim... *_▪Adamant Slash:_* -I don't enjoy the implication of how they've tried so very hard for wire bug to function with Greatsword...- this move is alright at regards of needing the wire bug to happen, it might as well allow you to pace from your previous charge, rather than just strong charge. Another main problem with Greatsword is that you can be stunned by using tackle, as well as within Rage slash... two abilities designed to trade... -Again another bad aspect of a weapon in the latest game that I've been playing since genesis...- Every charge move Greatsword has should be able to be coordinated like Rage Slash in terms of changing direction... Trading with a damage increase upon being hit with every charge attack Greatsword has is highly debatable, none the less a thought... *_▪Conclusion:_* Greatsword works... but getting around its problems aren't as rewarding when rival weapons and other weapons in the game perform much better. Especially when Greatsword absolutely requires focus to function, as well as charge level... time shouldn't be relevant to a single hits damage. There are a bunch of unsaid things here where I'm short on time but I got the important parts.

Hey brother, very nice narration and information! high quality (:
I really do hope they buff/rework Hunting Edge because it is an interesting concept, but it is pretty much useless in its current state

nice video..
a question though, does offensive guard armor skill work with guard tackle??
yes it does but its very awkward to fit in sets and even more awkward to use
Yeah it works. What Sam said basically. You need to guard an attack with the first few frames to activate the skill, and because GT is long this might actually cause you to miss the opening afterwards so it is generally not worth using.
As someone who is playing Monster Hunter Rise blind, Hunting Edge (in my opinion) has slightly more utility than just being overall useless.
the one dislike came from hunting edge.
