  • We visited the Mission San José, located in the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. The community was established in the 1700's by Spanish missionaries. They converted many Native Americans and taught them how to farm and work the land in exchange for protection.

    This is amazing. It is very reminiscent of the "Jesuit reductions" of Paraguay, southern Brazil and northern Argentina.

    The missions should have stopped bothering the natives

      The Spanish friars had the natives collecting stones all day for a year to make those buildings.
