The timing is so tricky! How long did it take you to get it down?? Edit: Alright, so I'm getting some questions in the comments, so I'll try my best to answer them here. 1. Since the glitched starters have different trainer IDs, the game treats them like traded Pokemon, which means they get boosted experience points and also, if they exceed a certain level and you don't have enough gym badges, there's a chance they might not obey you. 2. Unfortunately, since you didn't "catch" these glitched starters, they won't show up on your Pokedex. If it's really important for you to fill up the Pokedex, you can try doing it the traditional way thru trading. I'm also going to explore a different way to catch them in the future. 3. I was playing this on the 3DS Virtual Console, but from what I understand, this glitch should work on other systems too as long as the game is based on the original coding and there's a reliable way to soft reset. For example, on the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance, you can soft reset by pressing A + B + Start + Select. I also know that some people have been able to do this on emulators, but I'm not too familiar with how those work. 4. Not sure if this works on Pokemon Yellow (I've actually never played that haha). That might be something for me to explore in a later video. But as far as I know, there's already a way to get all three starters if you play through the game normally.
I might try it with the 3DS virtual versions if that trick doesn't work or if I don't get it right I'll just trainer fly glitch them or with ditto trough npc's.
I go back to these games every once in awhile start over catch as many Pokemon as i can and beat the league ....the nostalgia this brings is like no other me and my nephews were crazy for the anime and the games
I’ve smashed Red multiple times so I don’t even intend to exploit this glitch, but the fact I had no idea it existed along with the overall presentation of the video as a whole really impressed me. You earned my sub. Keep up the good work lad 👍🏼
Playing through all the games, finally completing them all, is something I've been wanting to do for a while now, so it's good to see others are doing the same!
So glad RUclips recommended this to me; thanks for sharing this trick with all of us! I had no idea it ever existed until now! And here I was, thinking I was so clever for wanting to upload my starters to Pokemon Stadium and then transfer them into a new save file.
A few days ago, I was finally able to use this glitch to attained all three starters. My overall plan is to use Ash Ketchum's original six Pokemon (Pikachu, Caterpie, Pidgeotto, Bulbasaur, Charmander, & Squirtle) to beat the game. So far, I already have my full team & I just entered Mt.Moon. Beside the occasionally disobedience from the extra starters, everything is going smoothly.
I've been playing pokemon yellow and have been doing the same thing. but instead of ash I chose red and my team is pikachu, lapras, snorlax, venasaur, charizard, and blastoise.
Tip to anyone trying this with gambatte emulator; the trick is to hit restart first...it takes a sec for the restart to register compared to confirming the save. It took me like 30 min at least to figure that out. Once I did, was literally like 5 min to get all three. So happy right now.
The only problem, 2 of your starters won't be added to the Pokédex. If you want to complete the Pokédex, you're best off using the trainer escape glitch to catch "wild" versions of the 2 starter Pokémon you didn't choose at the beginning.
To the people claiming it doesn't work - it does. It's a 4 frame window surrounded on each side by about 5 frames of save corruption. 1/15th of a second. I've only managed it three times before on original hardware total
you sound like a youtuber named missingnoXpert that privated all his videos... Oddly enough the way you said "i'll show you how to get a lvl 100 pokemon before brock" was the same exact way he said it.. he also said it at the end of one of his videos..
Got all three Starter Pokemon in like 20min, very happy, as I have no one to trade with. (Playing on a german Blue Virtual Console Version) Thank you for this video.
I accidentally tried something similar on gen2 when I was a kid. For some reason curiosity took the best of me and I attempted to clone the starter I got ftom a new safe file. I was amazed to discover that not only that it was entirely possible to move the new starter(+starting egg+any other possible pokemon you can deposit along with items on top) but also(to my discomfort) that you lose ALL your previous pokemon in the boxes. The only ones unaffected by this is pokemon in your party or daycare. I was really happy to find out you can do almost the same thing and start with all starters in gen1 as well. You really took me back. What I wanna ask is what happens if you do it in yellow version?? You simply get a bunch of pikas I assume but any chance that any of them will be evolvable or your only hope is to catch a Raichu through the missingno glitch??
See, I knew there was a way to do this, but for some reason the Internet seems to mostly suggest either the Old Man Cinnabar Surf glitch, or the Mew glitch. This is EXACTLY what I was trying to find info on. (Even TCRF wasn't helpful!)

This reminds me of the Tales of Destiny 1 glitch on the PS1 how to keep Leon and New Game +. Good stuff, man! Edit: Also with this glitch it might be possible to have any Pokemon from any part of the game in your party at the beginning including getting things like both fossil Pokemon as well as all the Eevees. Again, good stuff!
You can actually get all 3 eeveelutions in the game by Getting the eevee in Celadon Depositing it in the PC Switching the PC Box and resetting at a specific time (I'm still trying to figure out how many seconds you need to wait before resetting) It's just like save corruption, if you do it too early you'll destroy the file data and do it too late there won't be an eevee in your party and PC Box
For anyone wondering what happens if you get more than 6 You pick up the 7:th pokemon, you don't get an option to nickname, rival imediatly goes to pick up his pokemon. I went to the pc, deposited one of mine so I could check but no extra start was there, basically doing this more than 6 times doesn't yield more starters. However if you really wished your rival had another starter I guess you could do this a seventh time, say you picked bulbasaur for the sixth but you don't want the rival to have charizard? redo the glitch, pick charizard (which will dissapear) and now the rival chooses squirtle.
Here's a tip, if you're running an emulator you can enable slow motion mode and with this enabled you will be able to reset/exit the game very easily on the 2nd step where you need to time it right! Got the 3 in no time!
I've decided to replay them all from scratch too. Started with red, good thing these don't take too long to complete the full dex. Then pokemon silver doesn't take as long either cuz you can trade to them
Another awesome thing he didn't mention is the 1st two pokemon you choose will be boosted as if you got them in a trade! So they get extra XP! Just choose wisely bc the 3rd one you choose will not be boosted.
It took me a little practice, but I was able to get it to work on Blue running on an EZ Flash Omega on a real gameboy SP. what you're doing is essentially creating alternate timelines and moving Pokémon from one to another, which means it works with more mature save files with fully grown Pokémon, too (a run with Mewtwo? Why not!?) I tested it with Yellow just now. This method DOES work. In that version, you always start with Pikachu, but your own Pikachu will refuse to evolve, so Raichu is impossible to get. This method gets around that, so your "traded" Pikachu not only gets bonus XP, but can evolve.
Thanks for alerting me to the presence of this glitch, i lost my save data when my new 3ds arrived (acceptable loss) and this is just a perfect cap to the day
Save state 1: at save screen after choosing pokemon. Save state 2: in home. Load Save state 1, save via options. Load save state 2, attempt save and reset. If failed, Load back save state 1 and repeat.
I never new this existed but the first time I ever bought and played through Pokemon Blue I played through with 2 starters though I did use another method that would sadly be impossible with the 3ds versions. See well before I had Pokemon Blue I had pokemon Stadium and I had heard that picking starters effected the games difficulty with Bulbasuar bieng the easy mode Squirtle bieng the middle diffulity and Charmander bieng hard mode. I also knew that based off the starter you picked the rival would try to get the advantage over you. So I devised myself a plan to trap my rival into a disadvantage. In pokemon stadium when you win the Gym Leader Castle it presents you with 1 of 8 gift pokemon 3 starters, eevee, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and both of the fossil pokemon that could be picked up from Prof Oak lab in Pokemon Stadium if you had a copy of Red, Blue, or Yellow. So I waited for for the Gym Leader Castle to give me a Squirtle and then choose to keep it whenever the game tried to give me another starter. Then several months later I helped my dad run his bread route 1 day was about 18 at the time and he gave me 20 dollars after words. Which I decided to use to buy Pokemon Blue Version and I played using my N64. So when I first played it I selected Bulbasuar so my rival would be forced to choose Charmander. Then the first chance in game I got I saved and transferred my Squirtle from Pokemon Stadium into Pokemon Blue giving me a advantage over my rival and giving what I figured would have to be super easy mode. Although if I knew then what I know now about how many weaknesses the Grass/Poison typings have to deal with. I would have saved a Charmander in Pokemon Stadium selected Squirtle as my starter and forced my rival to use Bulbasuar.
Nowadays it's very easy to get all 3 starters in Red & Blue. All you need is an emulator that allows you to run two copies at the same tine & trade the starter in the sub-copy to your Master copy for a generic Route 1 'Mon once you get to Viridian City the 2nd time. Then, restart the sub-game a 2nd time & do the same thing. I did this in an emulator of Leaf Green & ran the sub-game without a starter at all (I used the Mankey you get from the first part of the way to the League - which is also the 1st Rival battle - to take care of Brock.) both to see how that changes the game & to get the Trade Evolutions.
I bought pokemon red recently beat it and honestly only did the mew glitch just because I never knew about it back in the day the game still holds up pretty good.
After a few days I finally did it. It didnt work twice when i had one of them already it was frustrating but I finally got them all. I got charmander last so my rival would have blastoise. Easiest one to beat in my opinion lol
This actually worked on my first try Edit: I timed it wrong second time so oof Edit 2: It worked again but then the pokemon lab music sounded weird and slow
no way... I'm trying on GBC and it's impossible. Are you performing a soft reset OR do you do a shut off / turn on...? it's very difficult to time a soft reset.

Also one more question, does the fly trainer glitch work on the Pokemon Blue version exclusives aswell if I play on Red?
This is very nostalgic because when I was younger Iused watch this whole video series on how to glitch and get glitch Pokemon on Pokemon Yellow which i did with all the old pokemon games cause i got them all for christmas when i was 12 and always wanted to play them. But i cant remember the RUclipsrs name or find find the old series anymore. So this is very nice so thank you

i like his videos and glad he uploaded new ones i hope he becomes a new poketuber i hope to be one as well by the end of this year any way good job on video see ya
Also works to get Mew + 3 Starters for the dream playthrough. Just start the whole process with the Mew GameFreak Distribution Restore Point. Proof in my videos. My method of timing it: Using 3DS virtual console, you want to turn the volume up, then tap in the top left corner of the bottom screen as fast as you can after pressing save. If save is still shown you want to tap the bottom screen's top left button to return to the game, then tap the same spot again, you should hear only one note of bg music and save disappears off the screen and the game pauses again. You need to do it one more time (to hear the second note) to then be far enough into the save process for this to work perfectly every time.
I was just remembering this. As soon as someone gets the pokemon to be duplicated, the other shuts off the game. The game only saves the other person receiving so you get to keep yours lol
I'm an idiot! I spent 20 minutes trying until I realized that I was using the first text box asking if I wanted to save. Not the second confirmation text box.
did you do it with a hard reset or a soft reset ( a b select start) haven't been able to get it with a hard reset and soft reset wont trigger on the save screen
You can with the 3DS Virtual Console. I pulled it off once earlier. (Of course, I then decided to try for the 3rd starter and lost my progress on that... >.< The timing is very real, but yeah.)
I do have a quick Question, please, if you don't mind answering. what about Pokemon blue and Red emulator gaming downloaded ? Will it work for the cellphone / that ? The game systems aren't available for me, long story short, I lost my old one / Gameboy colour in a house fire when I was 15 due to our oven that caught stark & barely was able to salvage anything before the fire department got there, i couldn't afford anything, so when I was 25 I discovered free online downloading emulator for specific games thats been capable of downloading the actual games to emulator, for cellphone to have as a storage kept game, offline file you can keep, do you think it will that work for this ? It is legal btw the way I discovered to do it, just a online free sight that allows you to download like Pokemon go for a example but offline ! & Not that fancy run fast through traffic to catch a maybe POKEMON lol but honestly

Thank you for this, I was able to pull it off perfectly on only my second attempt!
I played this game thousands of hours in the 90s..
Miss that time
This is neat ! Thank you for your video Sir !
Better than most big poketubers!
That’s such a nice compliment! Means a lot 😭
Does this work on original game boy? Or is it just roms? I can't seem to get the save to work
I heard about this for Gold and Silver. Didn’t know it worked in gen 1
Yea I remember duplicating Pokémon in gen 2. This is similar but u can’t duplicate Pokémon for some reason.
Mine keeps destroying the save file after the second pokemon qwq
Very good video, I tried for +2 hours, the timing is the hard part, but I think I can do it again if I want to no problem haha, ty ty
My idea was to get both red and blue versions and trade with yourself when so you get all three starters at once
I bought pokemon red recently beat it and honestly only did the mew glitch just because I never knew about it back in the day the game still holds up pretty good.
For the life of me I can’t do this, it keeps saying “file destroyed” yet it was extremely easy to do on Pokémon red.. any ideas?
After a few days I finally did it. It didnt work twice when i had one of them already it was frustrating but I finally got them all. I got charmander last so my rival would have blastoise. Easiest one to beat in my opinion lol
Recently got a Pokémon blue for my gameboy color it took me a while but did work!
This actually worked on my first try Edit: I timed it wrong second time so oof Edit 2: It worked again but then the pokemon lab music sounded weird and slow
FINALLY! It took me like one and a half hour.
Haha that’s actually pretty good time!
@@kevykangoegaming thx
I can only imagine the lunch monies and shiny trading cards I could have got for knowing this back in the day !
this is a really good video thanks now i just need to get the right timing for the reset
Thank you so much for this tutorial😃.
It took a long time to do this but I managed to do it on the original gameboy color for pokemon red. Well worth it though! Thank you dude
Glad you enjoyed it! Did you soft reset by pressing A + B + Start + Select?
no way... I'm trying on GBC and it's impossible. Are you performing a soft reset OR do you do a shut off / turn on...? it's very difficult to time a soft reset.
@@sgandhi823 I’ve been trying all day today and. Can’t get the timing and I have to shut it off but get the corrupted data a lot I’m on game boy color too 😫😫😫 lol
@@v_merks6257 It doesnt work for me. I have the game boy color and the original game. The soft reset won't work when it's in the middle of saving to clear the previous game file.
playing Red on my SP. I was able to get two of them. After a couple destroyed files to get the third, I decided two would do. (squirtle, charmander)
Hey, 2 years late I know, but can you make a list on which videos to follow step by step? I wanna get a full pokedex and I am a bit worried to make some mistake that would make it impossible. Also one more question, does the fly trainer glitch work on the Pokemon Blue version exclusives aswell if I play on Red?
Nice video man!
So this is very nice so thank you
By any chance was that MissingNoXpert? Because if so those videos are in his about section or community tab via link. :)

@@jeremyl2728 yeah we are thinking of the same guy :) If it makes it any easier heres the link: ruclips.net/p/PL60DCBEA2D1F73683
@@pixelguyknighton2608 its the same guy! Thanks so much!
Might try this someday. I mostly just play it normally as the game really won't take that long to complite after all these years
i like his videos and glad he uploaded new ones i hope he becomes a new poketuber i hope to be one as well by the end of this year any way good job on video see ya
Thanks! Good luck to you!
Yes! After an hour I’ve got all three starters!
Yay!
Also works to get Mew + 3 Starters for the dream playthrough. Just start the whole process with the Mew GameFreak Distribution Restore Point. Proof in my videos.
My method of timing it:
Using 3DS virtual console, you want to turn the volume up, then tap in the top left corner of the bottom screen as fast as you can after pressing save.
Me and my friends would just trade each other till we had all 3 using the trade duplicate glitch lol, took hours though.
Awesome video:)) thanks heaps
managed to get 2 but ruined the file when I would tied to get nr 3, it's too hard for me, but fun to learn that it is possible
I give up... it's impossible on GB SP with Original Red cartridge.
Check out my other channel here for Pokémon card and fusion art videos!
I'm on Emulator, and I got it in 30 minutes lol. Thank you so much!
did you do it with a hard reset or a soft reset ( a b select start)
haven't been able to get it with a hard reset and soft reset wont trigger on the save screen
What if you're playing this on the 3DS Virtual Console or on an emulator like RetroArch? Can you still perform the glitch?
Yes it works. no, it's not legal if you don't own an original copy of the game.
