LG QNED90 TV Review - Best Mini-LED option?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 июл 2024
- The LG QNED90 is a very good 4k TV with an IPS panel and a Mini LED full-array backlight. It's LG's first 4k Mini LED TV on the market, and the new backlight technology delivers fantastic contrast with local dimming enabled. It's one of the best contrast we've seen on an IPS panel. It's not perfect, though, as the local dimming feature itself is just decent, and there's noticeable blooming in dark scenes. It has wide viewing angles, decent reflection handling, and amazing peak brightness in SDR, so it's a good choice for a bright room. It runs the same WebOS platform found on other LG TVs this year, and it comes with the improved remote found on many of LGs other 2021 models.

Thank you very much for this review. It helps a lot. Cheers.
A very decent and honest explanation as always!
Hi, how good is the Samsung QN75Q82A or what is it comparable to. Thanks
Why is no one comparing qned90 and x90j? What to choose: IPS and more dimming zones on one side or less zones but a VA panel on the other?
YEEEESSS 😃 *THANK YOU SO MUCH,* I WAS LOOKING FOR MY NEW TV!! ✌
@@HTadd1ct POG 🤯
You guys rock. Thanks.
Does the 65QNED90UPA support HDR10 at 120Mhz? I connected a new PC to it and Windows 11 turns off HDR10 if I switch the refresh rate to 120 from 60 Mhz. I then try to force it on, and Windows turns it back off right away.
What 8K HDMI do you guys use?
How do i turn the vrr feature on for gaming.
Dang could see the bloom
Thanks for another great review. I have been considering a 75" TV for my largish living room. Brightness and a wide viewing angle are my main concerns, so TVs like the LG QNED90 have been on my radar. I hear you on the list pricing: at $2999, you could get the C1 77' and save a couple hundred. Same calculus for the 75" Sony X95J. For the $2,999, you can get a 77" A80J.
But who pays list price? Right now, the 75" LG QNED90 is $1,999. The Samsung Q80A and Sony X90J are around that price. The QNED90 is priced lower and has better blacks that the Q80A, and its viewing angles are way better than the X90J.
For $1,999, I think the LG QNED90 is a compelling option.
Yeah I can find this for 2100 mean while the QN90 for 2700 and Sony A80J/LG C1 for 2999. Decisions.
@@johnathankim6721 Yep, I see the QNED90 75" for $2,199. I feel now is the time to wait until SuperBowl
@@chefjefe68 What's your opinion on the 75" inch Qned90 vs an 85" X85J?
I brought the LG 75” QNED91, same as the QNED90 here in Europe for €1736 delivered. It was too good to pass up!
Great review, as always. So I get it that pricing at $3k was high, but at current prices close to half that this seems like a good buy. Thanks.
Hey Paul, If you end up getting this TV, we'd love to hear what you think!
I will be kind of curious to see what lg actually improved in this years mini led… for I am waiting for someone to make a worthwhile upgrade, to go from an old edge lit hdr 10 Samsung, to a modern Dolby vision led/mini led…. I though So y would have what I wanted, but after hearing of the issues vrr brings to the local dimming, I am not interested anymore, though that could change, since I have never experienced a local dimming tv…. I will wait for reviews to come out, but I am thinking it will be best to wait until 2023 or 2024, for a tv….
It looks like Mini-LED saved the Nano line of LG TV’s but it also came with limited 2.1 ports. Being that it’s LG prices will drop fast making it affordable soon may be by the Christmas holidays. I’m interested only because Dolby Vision is important to me but will wait for the 8K review to make a decision so for now the TCL R646 is a better option but with shitty VRR function without local dimming
Reason I want this is because the 120hz has no issues out the box. It's a great all rounder tv. Finally something good from LG. But yes definitely waiting for black Friday or something.
@1:21 did you say it only has 1 HDMI 2.1 port? LG’s site says 2 ports do - (HDMI Input (HDCP 2.2) 4 (side)Latest HDMI (4K @ 120Hz) HDMI ports 3,4).
At 5:54 he says 2
If the contrast was better I would consider this model.
Hi, do you guys plan on reviewing the LG QNED 80 Series?
We don't have any current plans to buy and review this TV, but it's on our suggestion list. So, if there's enough interest, we'll buy and review it! www.rtings.com/tv/suggestions
Do you notice dirty screen effect? I've been test same tv on home couple days and imo dse is very noticeable..
Ya, the Gray Uniformity (DSE) on our unit was only alright and scored a 6.5.
Any chance for Philips Mini Led TVs review?
We only buy and test products available in the USA, so unless they become commercially available there, we won't be able to test them.
Are you going to review the LG Oled monitor? 32EP950
Unfortunately, it looks like that model is what we consider to be "exotic" which means it exceeds a $2500 price. This means it is ineligible for us to buy and test.
I just bought a 65QNED83UPA at Best Buy for $950. It appears to be the same exact TV released a year later for about half the price as a Best Buy exclusive. The salesman at Best Buy said it was their special "higher end" LG Black Friday TV last November. It even has a more colorful box. I'm guessing for gifting purposes. Anyhow it's advertised at $999, but sold for $949. If you're interested in a TV like this Best Buy still seems to have these in stock. I selected it over the current 80 series for about the same price. The 80 series has the Gen 5 processor and this has the Gen 4, but this is Mini LED and the 80 series is not. Better screen tech always wins for me because eventually the software on the TV will get dated and you'll be using a streaming box hooked up to it anyhow.
For context: I am putting together my first theater room. So I want dark blacks without bloom.
So I bought a 75” LG Qned 90. Previously I was considering the TCL 6 series at $999 mostly for its black levels and lack of blooming. So I’m a little bit disappointed by the reviews regarding bloom/ light leaking into the blacks. HOWEVER. I did get this tv off the wall from Best Buy, marked down because it’s a display unit. But I paid $1k. For this tv. 75”.
Really mixed feeling right now. Thoughts?
Are you happy with it?
bump
Does anyone know why the QNED 91 is nowhere to be found in America?
I can only find it in Europe for purchase.
It seems like the QNED90 is the US 'equivalent' to the QNED91 in Europe! www.displayspecifications.com/en/news/07ef791
Better opción for a dark room? lg qned90 or samsung q70a??
Hey Alex,
Since the Q70A uses a VA panel, it has better black uniformity and contrast (making it the better option for dark room). Hope this helps!
The Prices must have changed this is cheaper than all the alternatives they suggest
Why is no one comparing qned90/91 2021 and qned90/91 2022? Right now the 65QNED916QE is 799€ in Germany. I think its a good deal.
Not bad at all. Samsung Q85A is at the same price here in our region. But Samsung doesn't support DV and has PWM flicker when motion interpolation is turned on. I want to upgrade to something bigger from my Samsung 65Q70R. I'm not shure which way to go...
I was considering the Samsung but ended up going for the 75QNED91 because it’s flicker free and has Dolby Vision. It’s arriving next week.

How do black compare on this to LG OLED?
Hey Russ,
This really isn't comparable at all. The QNED has an IPS panel which means it won't have good contrast or black uniformity. On the other hands, OLEDs have a near-infinite contrast ratio. So, blacks on an OLED would be worlds better.

@@RTINGSdotcom thanks! Please do soon as possible. Deciding between qned85 vs x90k for that price range.
I want a 65 inch 4k 120hz, this is for long hours and PC use so I do not want burn in concerns. What is a good option? I'm torn and nothing seems to be perfect for my needs. Either dirty screen, blooming, no VRR, no gsync/free sync option, burn in concerns blah blah blah. I ordered a Samsung 80t but I already put in a return request and it's not even here yet. What should I get? I want something that will last like 6-10 years and would rather pay a bit more now than get a shitter.
It really is hard to find something that doesn't have the issues you mentioned outside an OLED. DSE and blooming will be something on pretty much all non OLED options.

Sony X90K vs LG QNED 90 vs LG Nanocell 90, your pick for watching movies of HDR content, more picture clarity and good black levels??
The QNED90 is much better than the Nano90 so we can start by ruling that one out. As for the other two options, it's worth checking out this comparison tool: www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-qned90-vs-sony-x90k/21661/31221?usage=1&threshold=0.10
For better black levels though, the X90K is VA vs the QNED90 which is an IPS, so the X90K would be the better choice in that sense but definitely check out the above comparison and let us know if it's still unclear or if you have any other questions or concerns!
No imo samsung is the best mini led out right now but tbh I feel this tv is better then most give it credit for I do wish yoy guys measured different stimulus for contrast like you did for the x95j and left the comment about it this tv would also reach much higher with a half black and white instead of checkerboard or full as you can see in content it seems much higher then 6k:1
Please start mentioning how much worse the LG Web OS is. It really should be considered when buying a new TV. The basic ESPN app and the basic Fox TV apps are not available on Web OS. There are lots of sporting events like top 20 college basketball games that might not appear on normal TV broadcasts in fall because they occur during college football Saturday, etc. That makes sense, but you need espn app if you want to watch them,. The Fox app also offers football games in 4k without upcharges that RUclipsTV wants, etc. This is why TVs with native android TV(like Sony)are superior for at least the OS and compatibility side. For LG you have to try to stream from your phone, and I think stuff like the OS should be mentioned.
I have got QNED91 in Australia. It is very good with very low blooming not as much as old Sony X900H for eg. Unfortunately the DSE is a lot to me and is very distracting which agree with your test as alright 6.5 rating. X900H was much cleaner to compare. Sony X900H still wins hand down for deep inking black level but the brightness range from darkest to brightest isn't as good as QNED91 due to miniled helps a lot with better tonal range with much more detail like grass field when watching cricket in Australia compared to old X900H. QNED91 gets very bright but unfortunately in Australia is 2022 model instead of 2021 and does come with flicker at brightness level below 50. So it has to stay above 50 to be flicker free. Colour accuracy are okay not as good as Sony for eg in paritcular with skin tones and PQ EOTF is not as good as Sony again with bit of black crush and bit of highlight blown out. LG needs improvement with DSE, colour accuracy particularly in skin tones and PQ EOTF. Not to be kidding, the QNED 91 is a very heavy tv and is making installation more challenging and difficult. So beware of that, it's really heavy! The reason I swapped A80K for that because I suffered problem with flicker from OLED and that is disappointing. I have no problem with high frequency flicker from X900H as I can't see it. With flicker from A80K I can see quite a lot which is not good for eyes. A80K however was a very good tv though to watch movie and others. Very high quality. I would have wish that LG would have size down a bit more to 40-55 inch for QNED 91 and that would be a lighter weight and making installation a lot easier to do. Hopefully LG learns from that. I would have gone for Sony X95K but too late I went for QNED91 anyway. Hopefully LG can fix the problem with DSE in particular that I would have like to and fix the flicker problem at brightness below 50. Anyway enough rant from me.
Hey bro, do you still have the QNED91? I have that one and the DSE is very much. It has a lot of vertical lines which i beleive is called banding. I dont know if I should claim a awarranty?

Which models?
OLED sucks unless you're going to upgrade every year.
LCD + mini led is the way to go until microLed.
@@gills87 Exactly. And it looks like we're going to have to wait for microLED for quite a long time. So miniLED it is.

It’s eARC, I have it connected to the SP11RA soundbar

Yes it is!
Best tv
This is the best TV I ever owned. I may have stumbled across some lucky settings but wow the picture is amazing. And I have OLED, 8k samsungs etc
What is it with LG and their obsession with IPS?
I guess I’ll have to wait for the Sony X95K mini LED since we can’t get Samsung TVs in Japan.
No PWM dimming, no flicker
OLED is still king for now
For a year or two until it starts to burn in
In the monitor world IPS used to be king until OLED became more obtainable.
Can all the OLED royal people shut up, of course OLED is the best, but not everyone wants or can afford it,so we look at the other best option and to destroy the product because it's not an OLED is ridiculous
The LG 65QNED916A can be bought for aound £900 on Amazon UK now so it is a bargain. People who discredit it for being an IPS panel obviously do not watch from multiple seating positions. Wide viewing angles of IPS are a must for many families. The QNED tv will allow for great black levels without the disadvantages of black crush, washed out colors, poor viewing angles and lower respones times of VA panels.
Samsung has abysmal support and unsolved issues with cracking/popping sounds and hdmi dropouts with their QN Qled Series so this TV looks more attractive to me if it performs worse than Samsung Mini Leds in some areas.
Just picked up this model for $1300. It's the best TV I've seen other than OLED. I disagree with your rating.
If there are specific areas you disagree with, we’d love to hear more about your thoughts! Either way though, if you like it that’s al that matters!
Didn't get to see enough features especially the website like to brag about.
Hey James,
What features are you referring to?
Well I drank the cool aid and bought a qned90. What a mistake. It's just not a good tv for the price. It does offer excellent bright scene picture quality and clarity after much calibration. However, In any dark scenes you can see the dark screen uniformity issues because of mediocre contrast and dimming ability with a noticeable checkerboard pattern in dimmly lit areas. Clarity also suffers and becomes flat for the rest the scene. Blooming is present but altogether not horrible. But again, the pictures disappoints at this price point.
So better samsung or sony?
@@AngelSustain I think it's more or less about what's important to you. I'm a huge Sony fan because of their picture processing. But even the best sets aren't perfect. Also budget is a factor. If you need wide angle viewing the Lg qned is great. Sony viewing angles are narrow. VA panels. OLED is the best with deep blacks and viewing.
This tv is about 30% less expensive than a C1 and the Samsung mini led. So do I buy this or pay almost 1k more for the oled?
Literally thinking the same
I had this same issue. I picked up the 75” QNED91 for €1730 as buying a 77”C1 would currently cost me almost €2800.
@@theexpatgunner are you happy with the qned91? Currently thinking about changing the qned91 against the qn90a or x95j

Still super annoying they do not talk about clarity while watching sports! It's a huge blind spot with this site
my oled is beyond watching after a couple of years. looks like seeing it through eye full of floaters so no oled is not very good. beautiful for a couple of years then poof worse than any 100 dollar no brand tv
oled is meant strictly for movie watching .nothing else
no tv .no monitor no xbox no ps 4 5 gaming
for rest LCDs are best
Please, put the numeric scores back and leave this "Disappointing/Okay/Excellent" votes to the not specialized sites. If a guy is curious enough to search a TV review online instead of buying the first TV he sees in store, this means that he probably has the basic capabilities to understand a numeric scale.
Speaking about this TV, an IPS panel with a contrast which barely reach 1000:1 and an embarassing DSE it is NOT "Okay", it's c**p that you have to warn customers to stay away from. At least you say that (in your way) in the "Verdict" section.
So it could have been a great TV but thanks to the IPS panel it's medicore for premium price. Basically get QN90A and have a better TV set.
Agreed. But this applies to the U.S only. QN90A joins the LG QNED 90 in being an IPS/ADS panel in Europe and Asia. So we have it worse here being left with the X90J. There's no TCL R646 and Hisense U8G out of the U.S as well. The U8GQ which is available out of U.S is an IPS panel. This year's pretty messed up.
@@Ermelious we've got QN91A and QN95A in europe which are VA
In the UK we have QN90A, QN94A, QN95A they are all VA
@@Ermelious wait: QN90A in europe is NOT a VA panel??? really ????
So picture quality much is worse than OLED, got it.
QN85A feels like a better option for less money
LG doesn't want to cannibalize their OLEDs but they charge a premium for this LED and use their weaker processor and IPS still. This tv is way overpriced. It should be in that Hisense U8G and TCL R646 price range. Just can't compete with QN90A and X95J
This TV does have two key advantages over the ones you mentioned though. First, better viewing angles (for those who need it), and second, it does not use PWM dimming method for backlight LEDs. This is a big deal for those sensitive to flickering. It is just unbeliveably difficult to find a TV that uses DC dimming, and this is the only high-end that does that.

Why can’t these companies ever fix the blooming and horrible black levels on these tv’s? Are they just releasing the same tv every year with a different name and technology slapped on the box? These tv’s never seam to get any better. 🤷♂️
Why? Because it’s legit inherent to the LED Tech do you not understand how leds work? You can’t control each led so there’s zones fo control. There’s only so much algorithms can do. Yea you could eliminate blooming but usually that means way less brightness and that means bad HDR…. they don’t eliminate it until there’s a breakthrough in the technology and it will be an expensive tv. The only thing good about this QNED's from LG is the contrast.
