- A video of myself performing "Not Gonna Die" by Skillet, off of their 2013 release "Rise".
I got pretty sloppy in this one (mostly during the main solo) I also felt that the guitar in this song was too basic aside from the solo, so I added some (sloppy) lead work of my own (and probably butchered the song in the process, haha)

1:46 - 1:56 had chills go down my back! Great job dude, rock on!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻☠️☠️🎸🎸
+TBH_Wolfe Haha glad you liked it! Out of all the leads that I added to this song, that's my personal favorite part. It was also the first thing I added to it. I remember listening to the song and almost expecting a lick like that to kick in at that moment. When nothing happened I decided to just add it myself lol
Hahaha ghost rider sir good☇⛈⛈🌩⚡🔥🎃
THIS IS AWESOME!
el audio saturado le da un toque mágico, ¡felicidades hiciste lo que yo siempre quise hacer!
the 1.43 lick is so tight dude , awesome

Thank you! But, may I please ask you to keep the comments clean? My mom watches these videos. :)
Kyle Scott sorry :) i fixed it
Thank you. :)
Sick!
Thanks!
AMAZING! I HAVE NO WORDS I NEED A LOT MORE PRACTICE IN MY LIFE TO GET AS GOOD AS YOU, TIME TO CHANGE TO 6 HOURS A DAY INSTEAD OF 4.
Haha, thanks!
Dude! show this to skillet! youd do great as their guitarist
lol thanks! If I remember correctly, I believe I already have sent this to Skillet. I know that their guitarist has watched a few of my covers, but I can't remember if I sent this one to him haha
Kyle Scott what did they say?!
+Eric Robertson Seth would usually reply with something along the lines of "Nice job, man!"
Kyle Scott sweet.
Really really awesome
Thank you! I'm hoping to redo this one with better video and audio quality soon. Just need to find the time, haha
Your technique is amazing LIKE
Thank you!
Nice leads
Thanks!

👏👏👏👏👏
Un maestro
He killed it
Thanks!
GOOD WORK
Thanks! I'm actually planning on redoing this soon with high quality audio/video so stay tuned!
Killed it! Random question, ever think about doing a tutorial on sweeping? Your technique is different from what I've been shown in the past and I'm very intrigued!
+Drew Patrick Thanks! I'm not sure if you've seen it, but I did explain three string sweeping a little bit in this video ruclips.net/video/qWcY3V_elX4/видео.html I didn't really talk much about my technique though, so I might make a more in depth one in the future
Dude. you're SICK! :D
Haha, thanks!
Impressive! Starting to learn it by your tutorial.
Is it the Yamaha Pacifica 112J guitar? I have one, it looks just like yours, except the color.
Thanks! I hope the tutorial is helpful!
I believe mine is the 112v but I'm not sure
Your amazing!!!!!
Thanks!
you are a boss good job
+Rafalejb Thanks!
Hey dude :) at the beginning there is some kind of audio that says Rise (Jen) where did you find it?
+Kanenas Kanenopoulos It's the interlude for Not Gonna Die that plays at the end of Good to be Alive.
Kyle Scott oh ok man thanks :) nice work btw i am learning it now xD
Very Good \o/
+Edson Junior Thanks!
Great
Thank you!
dude sick cover man! what type of effects are you using?
Thanks, man!
The only pedal I used in this video was a BOSS OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion which I used as a boost.
Nice!
Thanks!
When are you going to be making a tutorial on the elevator by I am empire?
I'm going to try and make it within the next week or so, I've just got to find a good time to record it.
Awesome! Looking forward to it!
Kyle Wise Okay! The lesson for I Am Empire's The Elevator is up! Find it on my channel! :)
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
Thanks!
Is this based on the E minor or major scale? I'm trying to work out the solo by ear and I'm trying to use some minor modal stuff but it isn't sounding right.
I'm afraid I don't know. I'm completely self taught, and I have very little knowledge of scales. Sorry :(
You could probably ask Seth on Twitter though. He usually replies to questions from fans.
Ok thanks for replying, I'm self taught as well & I will ask him on twitter! Lol thanks!
Good job dude! A little bit too much gain though sounds too thick with a lot of gain in my opinion...maybe use a boost pedal to boost your signal during the solo instead of having it the same through out? Thats what i do lol...but beside that good job
Ever heard the saying 'less is more'?
Yes I have, but I listen to a lot of Power Metal bands so this actually does feel like "less" to me, haha
Ah! That makes sense then. I just meant in context of the original. I just notice that with a lot of RUclips covers, people throw in a bunch of harmonics and sweeps for a quick and easy wowzer. While that will get the wows from the casual viewer, the reality is that a few well placed tricks sound better than a bunch thrown in. Not trying to bash you (as you are obviously a proficient guitarist ) just a little constructive criticism. I did enjoy your cover, for the most part.
Samuel M. Oh, don't worry, I didn't take your comment as a bash. I also greatly appreciate constructive criticism and completely agree with what you're saying.
Looking back now, over a year after uploading this, I definitely feel that I went overboard at times. Especially with the pinch harmonics, as most of them are sloppy and don't really fit in with what I was going for.
I also wasn't going for a wow factor with this cover, though I can see how one would assume that. Most of these licks wrote themselves while I was simply listening to the song and I thought they'd fit in nicely. What I play at 1:43 is a perfect example. When I first listened to this song, and it was approaching the second half of the second verse, I fully expected a lick similar to what I wrote to start playing at that moment. But, even though nothing started playing, I could still "hear" the lick playing in my mind so I decided to add it to the song myself.
Again, I really appreciate the criticism and I wish that more people like you would comment on my videos (Not that I have anything against the typical "You rock!" or "OMG MY MIND EXPLODED!1!!1" comments, haha). Thanks!
Kyle Scott Yep, agree with ya 1:43 sounds great. And I know that feeling, sometimes when I'm listening to a (original) song and I'm like noooo you played it wrong. I mean it sounded great but it would sound soooo much better if you added this lick in there lol. Oh well, the burdens of being musically inclined. Rock on \m/
Kyle Scott oh look someone who isnt a toxic peice of trash and actually listins to there viewers to make there content better and in the prosess making people happy....its like were not on youtube or something
Hey, do you have the Tab for those?
Good job! Great vid
+TheMisticOnes Thanks! I don't have tabs but I did make a series of lessons. Links are in the description
top
Please do a tutorial for this!!!
What's the song in the beginning be for you play skillet ?
+Rose Davis It's the interlude that plays after Good to be Alive. Basically an extended intro for Not Gonna Die. Here's a video that has the whole thing ruclips.net/video/yeVs0egR_pQ/видео.html
Kyle Scott Do you love skillet ?
I find myself listening to them less often as I get older but I'm still a fan
Kyle Scott ok. What songs do you like
+Rose Davis Whispers in the Dark, Awake and Alive, Imperfection, Live Free or Let Me Die, etc.
Who the heck dislike this gosh!
Well I've been this wrong than since the album came out!! Great video I also do pinch harmonics when I play this gives it that extra punch. Pan head for life
Pinch harmonics ftw!!!
Wow 0_0
wuuuut the hell o.o I think i just died o.o
What track you used as backing track?
I didn't use a backing track, just the song from the album.
The effect at 0:10 how is it called?
It's called a pinch harmonic
+Kyle Scott Thank you so much bro
but, I did like your video it was amazing! !!!!!!!!!
Thank you :)
what tuning are you playing?
Drop C#
I've got a lesson for this song if you're interested. Check the description for the link
How hard is the guitar to learn? I would love to play covers.
It really depends on the person I suppose. In my experience, It was really hard for about six months to a year, but then my playing started to take off a bit
I'm 18, I think it could take some time. Kinda wish I started when I was younger.
it's never too late to start. one of my friends started when he was 19, now ten years later he records with famous bands. lol
muito bom
Thank you!
Maybe you go and make a band man you are amazing
Thanks! I'd love to play in a band some day
Are you playing this in drop c?
Drop C#
with every vid i watch u get just that much epic-er..lol
+MegaMusic4Life13 also...u have a skillet t-shirt!? thats what it looked like, omgsh i want one so bad.
Thanks! Yeah, it was one of their limited edition shirts of the week. I'm not sure if they do that anymore, though
You should sooo wear it without a flannel shirt over it sometime.
How. You distorsioned The guitar.? Sorry for My English i'm chilean
I used a Fender Frontman 25r amp, and BOSS OS-2 set to overdrive as a boost
Kyle Scott thanks bro.
No problem!
I have the exact same guitar as u, but mine is white + black
+- RiftiFier - Nice!
que pedal usas?
Just a BOSS OS-2 as a boost
Amigo mejora el audio de este vídeo! tocas muy bien :D
Thanks! I've been thinking about redoing it with better audio
Hey, Kyle! I'm a great fun of you and I want to know how you make such a nice sound of your guitar. I have the same guitar as yours. So, can you tell me a secret? :)
You mean my amp/pedal settings? Sure!
The amp I'm using is a Fender Frontman 25R
Settings:
Gain 4,
Treble 10,
Middle 4,
Bass 4,
Reverb 3.
I also used a Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distorion
Settings:
Level Max,
Tone 11 o'clock,
And both the Drive and Color set to 9 o'clock.
Keep in mind that my tone sounds different in person, as I did not use any audio recording equipment.
I hope this helps!
Kyle Scott Thanks, that helped me ;)
Wath Efects ??
+Edson Junior The only effect I used was a BOSS OS-2 set to overdrive and used as a boost
Ok Tanks !!
Nice cover... but maybe a little less gain and more bass next time?
There’s too much distortion on that guitar I can barely hear what your playing, what I could hear sounded great though
i mean it was like 8 years ago
Agreed

Please made the tutorial
I've already promised to make a tutorials for a few other songs, so I'll try to make one for this after I get those up. It'll probably be awhile though as I'm very uncomfortable when it comes to talking on camera...
That's quite the compliment, thanks! :)
I suppose I can make a tutorial for the parts I added. I'll probably make a three part lesson, Part 1 (Rhythm), Part 2 (Solo), Bonus lesson (My added leads)
I'm hoping to have time to record it this week. :)
Haha! I try to reply to as many comments as possible. Though occasionally I might miss a few here and there.
Thanks for the sub!
I'll try to get the tutorials up asap! :)
+NoelRachel M Hi! I realize that it's been over a year since I promised to upload a tutorial for my version of Not Gonna Die but I thought I'd let you know that I just uploaded it right now! ruclips.net/video/xUWFdvrsEJA/видео.html (I am so sorry that it took me over a year to make!)
Tuning?
+killerbot208 Drop C#
mano faz o msm video mais enssinando
I'm afraid I don't understand. Sorry.
Kyle Scott he is brazilian, like me. So, he said "make a tutorial video for this song"
Ah, I see. Thank you for the translation!
I've been trying to record a tutorial for this song for about a month now. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the time to do so :(
But hopefully I'll have a chance to record it soon! :)
Nossa, que distorção e essa
tabs pleace. the video has been deleted!
+Umino bersa Hey, sorry about that. I never deleted the tutorial but apparently the links broke (no idea how that happened)
They should be working again now
Thanks bro, i need it cx
Great job! I just think the music should be a bit louder.
Thanks for the feedback!
I try my best to get a good volume balance between my amp and the music, but it can be hard because my cameras mic isn't very good. I'm hoping to get some actual recording equipment and make high quality videos someday. But in the meantime, have you tried listening with headphones? That makes the sound a lot better. :)
no offense but I think you should turn the singing part up a bit and play a little less louder on the guitar cuz the guitar kind of covers up the music and you can't hear it that well, that's just my opinion
No offense taken! Thanks for the feedback!
Wouldn't it be awesome if skillet was featured in vocaloids?
Better than Morrison, just as that
Wow, thanks!
you are great but the song sound kind of low
Thanks! I agree about the song volume. At the time that I recorded this I had no way of recording audio directly, however, I can record direct audio now, so hopefully that won't be a problem in future videos
Awesome job man! check out my guitar cover I did the begining violin part and all the added leads... even the bass part before the solo. Hope you like the way I put mine together aswell! Godbless.
You're good but I can do better
+Horatiu Sipos Cool
this is so fake on the same level as 18877 kars for kids
Genuinely can't tell if you're trolling or just a idiot
Awesome
+Matteo Fusconi Thanks!
