The Eagles Defense is Ruining Their Title Shot | The Play Sheet

- The Philadelphia Eagles recently gave Matt Patricia more control over their defense, and the results have been abysmal. Once considered Super Bowl contenders this season, the Eagles defense has had a multitude of schematic and personnel-related shortcomings in their past few matchups. Can Philly turn it around in time to make a playoff run, or are they stuck in the mud with this group? Watch 'The Play Sheet' on Spotify or RUclips every Wednesday at 8 a.m. PT.

It's not all Matt Patricia's fault, he has no idea that he's been chewing real lead pencils for years.
Patricia running the defense has been a super bowl winning formula for the Eagles in the past.
Devastation 💀
From the top rope 😂
thanks ben! as an eagles fan this made me want to die in a very different way than usual.
It's amazing now Ben manages to do such polished, high quality videos while only in junior high school.
A switch went off after the first quarter in the game against San Francisco. San Fran converted a 2nd and 15 on the first drive of the second quarter after back to back 3 and outs to start the game. Ever since since then, Philly has had the worst defense in the league
You watched that ankle break 3 times, and I watched you watch that ankle break 3 times lol
5 wide out of 13 personnel? with james conner lined up on the boundary? goofy ass formation lmao i love it
This is beautiful football to watch by the cards.
Welcome to the Matt Patricia experience, Eagles fans!
- Patriots fan.
honestly the fact that the eagles are 11-5 with this defense is a statement on how good Jalen Hurts is. Without him, we might honestly be a 7 win team
4:37 this looks like patricia was expecting a madden auto-flip of the formation
They were number 2 against the run at some point I think. I’m curious as to how they got here after the good start of the season. There are teams picking in the top 10 in the draft that have a better scheme smh
Everything that man touches...
How does he still have a job? Better question - who's the next fool that's going to hire him?
I knew when I read that the Eagles hired him in the offseason that Patricia was going to screw something up. I can't believe Slay is actually over what Patricia did to him in Detroit.
You would think that the Eagles know how bad a Patricia led defense is, given they absolutely torched them in the Super Bowl. But I guess Howie wasn't paying attention to that game.
Its on Sirianni since the HC assembles their staff. I get hiring him to be on a staff role. But to elevate him to calling plays on defense when Desai is struggling along with woes on the spine/secondary of the defense is weird shit. Maybe its to take the heat off the offense and the lack of the right play caller that is putting more pressure on the defense to play better.
@@markarren7480 that NE defense had hardly any talent in its front 7.
@@t4d0Wcould easily been had a Roseman/Lurie decision. we all remember the Doug Pederson kerfuffle
@@t4d0W Yup, & I want to mention something I observed about good ol' Nick last season, the first I'd watched in at least 8 years. Sirianni is what the French call "un Nul." I honestly do not think anything is going on in there.
They almost lost _last season_ to the Cardinals. & you know why? He pits his roster against the opposing team's & that's it. Nothing else. It's as if he thinks that it was his job as OC to call plays & as HC, the perk is to not have to.
He makes No In-Game Adjustments, ever! This almost cost him only one regular season game because that's how strong the Eagles' roster is. It _really_ cost him in the S-B. He has been watching this meltdown all season long & like I said, he Does Not Change Or Make Changes To Anything. Wtf does he actually _do_ then as HC? Does he think his entire job is to decide to go for it on 4th downs?
Does he think they're paying that much to do that little? He seems to not be able to assess talent either. He feels like the promotion makes him unquestionable & he's on cruise control. He cost this roster a Full Year. Cost Kelce that last ring he wanted.
Patricia is the North Star for people that suck at their job
Great video Ben
New haircut looking good! Keep the good videos coming!!!
Thanx! I cut it myself!
Thirsty for Ben
what a world where we're praying for ZAC CUNNINGHAM to come back and save us lol but really can't trust the coaching staff at all this year
Great vid as always!
14:40 yall wanna see a dead body?
Fantastic breakdown Ben. The issues are real and ever present. I'm majorly in favor of letting Fletch, BG, Byard, Evans, Bradberry, every LB all go in favor of just getting some speed at the very least. Maybe this is the year Howie surprises us and grabs the best LB on the draft board instead of another DT.
Another great episode!!!
Ben's only mistake here is that they tried to fix the Linebacker spot with Nakobe and Nolan, but both haven't worked out.
Nolan is more an on-ball LB like Reddick. Nakobe is has been there one investment and its failed so far.
Nakobe is okay but his health issues is why he was a day 3 pick despite his good acumen on coverage play. Doesn't help that after letting Kyzir White and TJ Edwards go they had no else to fill in after those guys for quality play.
@@t4d0WNakobe was a Day 2 Pick
@@noahcooper304 yes, I just didn’t feel like getting into all that. At the time of the draft many thought he’d provide scheme versatility (in addition to edge depth), moving around the line and dropping into coverage occasionally…. More than we’ve seen so far.
And no I didn’t mean to count these guys out for their careers, I’m just talking about this year.
The eagles are currently playing 4/3 defense and it's not working.
Ben sees both a misallocation and a talent deficit at Linebacker for the Eagles. I watched Alex Singleton for years in the CFL and he was a very effective Linebacker. He was all over the field during his years in Calgary. He started his NFL career with the Eagles but is now playing in Denver. Is there a reason he was let go by the Eagles ?
the reason was mentioned at the end: Howie Roseman's policy
their defense was worse than the chargers against the raiders omg they’re horrible
World is still in shock that Matt Patricia move didn’t work
Darius Slay ran from the Lions to get away from Patricia. Only to have Patricia back as a coach. Slay is a leader on the team. If he is frustrated. So are the others. Few players respect Patricia. He will plague you for as long as you keep him
Reddick in coverage and Devonta Smith blocking on screen plays 🤦🏼♂️
in these cases, it's better to be predictable
I see a lot of similarities here with how the Packers can't stop anyone on D either.
Except the Eagles have about ten times as much defensive talent. The similarity is their DC’s suck.
The Eagles are probably going to search another DC candidate who can get the defense playing at the right level with these athletes. Matt LaFleur was content with 3 years of Joe Barry's defensive play calling despite obvious bad play with great talent on the Packers defense. That could change however with LaFleur's buddy (and also Barry) Brandon Staley out of a job and looking for work.
The eagles are talented but their coaching is holding them back from really doing anything
All the homies love Ben Solak
Solak is the best
I said this before and I'll say this again, th defense, while it is bad, is not the primary problem. The problem is the excessively predictable offense lead by football terrorist, and hopegully next New England Coach, Brian Johnson.
Niners broke them
Ravens exposed Purdy.
