Generally speaking, they go out at 3am, they use industrial estates and they don't think they are invincible. Don't say they don't care. That would be to deny them of a sense of self preservation; given the time and place they undertake these acts, you cannot say most don't care about the public. To draw distinctions from drug use serves only to solidify what most people with a jurisprudence already think of you. Sure, the behaviors are irresponsible; yet they still aren't anywhere near as irresponsible as this farce of a journalistic standard. There is a place for emotion; but to exploit it in this way is repulsive, unprofessional and I think personally hides the lack of what could otherwise be a stronger case. Piss weak.
Sounds like some kind of nocturnal creature. Like a mix between a raccoon and an owl. Be sure to cover your garbage cans, or else the hoons will get into it.
Just needs to be more drag strips and courses for these things. So many places have problems because they don't have the places to do it or it's only open once in a while
Melbourne had drag tag, which was open every Friday and Saturday night, it was located in an industrial zone..... Yet because the police had no control over the privately run event, it was shut down.
A current affair is the worst, just one sided bullshit. They gather police, doctors, professional instructors, etc to defend these stupid road laws (they're paid of course) but on the other side invite a bunch of teenagers with IQ of about 10 combined, they couldn't even string a sentence together. obviously street racing or drifting on the road is very stupid, or cutting springs or running -10 camber or installing wheels that don't fit, etc and those that are stupid enough to to it should be pulled up. What the real motoring enthusiasts have a problem with is despite doing the right thing like obeying the speed limit, going to race tracks, keeping the car in excellent mechanical condition, etc you still get followed, pulled over and harassed for simply driving a modified car, defected for having things like a rollcage, engine modifications, suspension modifications, or wide wheels, etc. Even though the car is a miles safer and driver being miles more talented than 99% of the other cars on the road. Its about revenue, not safety.
I can't count the amount of times I've risked my well-being in mountain passes, at night and completely alone just for the thrill. That psychologist isn't completely right.
I can completely agree with you, theres plenty of switchbacks ive driven at 1 am I stick to my lane and don't drift over. Crossing a double solid is stupid.

Look, the reason us "hoons" love to go high speeds or go sideways through a Macca's drive-thru at the middle of the night is because it gives us freedom. There is no freedom by sticking to extremely low speed limits and being restricted by tons of car modification laws, NSW (where I live) is the worst state to be a car tuner because of all the laws that are forced down our throats preventing us from putting our personalities in visual form in our cars.

Did you not hear the Police Officers mate? There are places, racetracks etc... Why not organize and event or ongoing thing with them? It'd hopefully be safer and may draw in some crowds. There is NO EXCUSE for doing this on Public Roads
Cody Edgington Really mate? Didn't have a clue about that. But I must ask, it that a defect for a standard road vehicle or track car? I could understand a Defect Station being there to check Track cars and see if their up to standard. However, If you are putting a track car through a normal defect procedure, that's a bit off. That said, A track car that is not fit for use on Public roads, should be brought in on a Tow truck or Trailer.
Jon LeSouef I 100% agree that track cars should be on trailers. But for example, there was an event not long ago, roughly 70+ plus cars (both track and street cars) virtually every car got checked. My mates s13 is road worthy and was defected for a loose battery bracket after the cops looked over the car for half hour and couldnt find anything else
something called situational awareness, if I'm on a backroad with some nice twisties and nobody else around why is it wrong for me to go a little quickly? I'm a competent driver and I'm only endangering my self what's the problem?
Lachlan budd exactly, I'm for the same argument. People always saying "..oh you'll kill someone.." What? On a backroad with no one on the pavement?? People need to stop harassing.
When you do stupid stuff, you have to make sure there are no one around that could get hurt. You also look at the road ahead, you also know your limitations. You also know of the limitations of your car and then keep in mind the road conditions. But some people just don't think before they act...

It was all sweet fun and games, until Little Tommy Hoon passed away. But God loves a Hoon they all say, until Tommy rode the Suzuki into the bay. Forget the wheels, we'll go til the Hoons fall off. RIP Thomas (Tommy) T.
My dad has a stock (other than a Cold air pod filter), we were on the way to countdown on a wet ish day, and spun the wheels for like... not even 50m, There was a cop parked on the side of the road on his laptop, he seen it, followed us, and impounded the car for lose of traction, Witch is utter pathetic...... main point; DO NOT brow-beat your kids about this stuff, they'll just resist you. in fact, see if you can attend a hoon type thing and find some ways to encourage your kid to do stuff like this as safely as possible and far away from populated areas. car meets in the center of town to burn rubber are not necessary, no reason you can't do it in a parking lot way out of the way. speeding on the highway though....you'll never convince them not to, they just need to do it in very short bursts
As a Firies daughter, I've heard/seen the outcomes of these 'car enthusiasts'. I am a car enthusiast. I am a P Plater. I know where every local racetrack/drag track is and know how to get in to flex my 'hoon' need. I drive a manual car that could be classed as a Hoon Car but it's from factory stock, even have the papers to prove it, yet you won't see me drag racing on the streets, burning my tyres out or watching those do it. Tyres are expensive, panel damage is expensive and we cannot put a price on someone's life. So don't use the excuse that there isn't anywhere to go. That you do it cause it's fun or you're angry. Because if it's not your life it will be someone else's that you destroy for the sake of watching that needle rise above the limit and beyond.

The reason for vehicles to exist is to get around. These dummies don't get that they aren't ENTITLED to break the law on the road. I could hear the violin play when they were sooking about there being no racetracks for them every Friday. If you want to race, take up cycling and put hard work into it. Anyone can press a pedal with their foot. Also, if your car isn't defective, you won't get a sticker. Dope.

there arn't any interesting cars left on the road in NSW because its become a nany state. the police and public have been brainwashed into thinking a modified car is a threat to the public when in actual fact the car is improved (modified), by a person that cares more about looking after their car and therefore not crashing it. sports exhaust = loader = safer more power = irrelevant ( a prius can do 165km/h ) bigger brake = better crash avoidance better suspension = better crash avoidance
i agree, but only if those mods have been done legally and the car isn't so low that you can drive over a Credit Card without scraping like some idiots that lower cars are like
Maybe a start in combating young "hoon" drivers, should be limiting them to naturally aspirated four cylinder motors with no modifications whatsoever. For the time of their probation period, people need to understand and respect cars before they can get a high powered car. But politicians are the smart ones.
Politicians Smart? They are no different from the rest of us. Taking freedom of choice of vehicle away from people? You enjoy living in a "free" country yes? As you said, people need to understand and respect cars, the only way to get people to do this is by "teaching* them, Common sense would dictate that "Education" is the best way of tackling this issue, but that costs money so the Government won't do it. Also please don't be blind sighted. ACA has picked the dumbest "hoons" they could find to represent themselves while they got police which specialise in traffic offenses especially hooning cases. it's not a fair argument and is segment was made to make hoons look like idiots, you need to understand that before you watch it.
I was being very sarcastic when I said politicians were smart. It's one thing to teach kids advanced driving education, but once they get it then get a high powered car most if not all would drive around the streets thinking their ken block or something. Don't get me wrong I love powerful cars and I had a rotary rx 3, 13b brappa. I just think kids should be restricted to 4 cyl nat asp no mods at all, for the time of probation, enforcing it would be the hard part.
Dinky Di I'd have to agree with what you're saying here. An inexperienced driver behind the wheel of 300hp and a shitload of torque is a dangerous prospect. It's far too easy for them to lose control. I personally believe it's important to learn the fundamentals of car control before getting into something with a lot of power. Wouldn't be any harder than enforcing drink driving. If you're caught driving a modified vehicle and/or it has more than 4 cylinders, the vehicle is seized and you get demerits/a ticket. It's not a good idea for young people with little experience to be behind the wheel of something they can't control.
Dinky-Di that's legit? The point of the education is to make them realize they are not Ken Block and how to respect the car. Yes in Australia we have a lot of dumb people and laws have to be made for the lowest common denominator but the fact you're wanting to ban P-platers from V6's and diesels is actually so stupid, Like i actually don't think you have a brain right now. How is a P-plater meant to tow a boat? most commercial vehicles a V6 so goodbye jobs for young people. you are actually just so dumb i don't understand you.
I do see, and I do hate it when a cop harass you for no reason, then you get mad and don't give a shit about any but just your self. It's like a little kid gets bullied by a big kid for no reason and can't do anything about then shots up the school. Sounds just about right, I bet this is a very very very controversial topic, But that's one more side to it all.
Maybe if the prices to get kin the tracks are cheaper and the tracks are opened on a more regular basis and like Daniel said for some of the modification rules be scrapped that would stop us "hoons" racing on the street.
The guy states "We stand in a parking lot with cars shut down talking, and cops come and harass us". Cop replies - "Yeah, well why should we give you special treatment". Does he have any brain capacity to realize he just said "Harassing everyone is what we do, why shouldn't we harass you?"
I am not trying to be biased here, hoons are a problem, my brother died due to speeding in 2006, but the hoon laws do nothing but create revenue, they stop no one speeding and speed cameras do nothing to lower the road toll.
I get the RBT as much as the next person. I have a clean driving record but I still get pulled over for no reason. I am pretty defensive on this topic because they say hoons are at epidemic levels and complain about people doing burnouts and street racing but they don't do anything about it (eg, have events or make a place for people to go like once or twice a month).
Make more places for us to do this at, yes I agree keep it off the streets, but if there were more places for us " Hoons " to do a skid, have a race, do some drifting it would keep it off the streets. Our local track got closed down cause of the " Noise " the closet house is over 1k away! So all the action was back on the streets.
Where I'm from, we don't have a drag strip, we don't have a burnout pad, we don't have a race track, we have no where legal to do it. If we didn't have to drive 600km to go do a skid we wouldn't do it on public roads
i hate how people say you cant do this because you are putting your life in danger. because its my life you dont tell me what to do with it. but i agree that you shouldnt put other people in danger. have a look at the midnight club in japan. thats how you race on street with responsibility.
This interview seems like a joke... Unfair and inadequate perspectives. I have been a 'driving' enthusiast since I first got behind the wheel of my first car at 18yo. I love to drive and I have also made a lot of mistakes.. I'm only 27 but would love to have an 'older hoons' input on shows like the one shown. The people on this video really seem like children just pushing their boundaries or just being uneducated. I agree that if you do the crime then you need to pay the penalty. But how about a SMARTER PENALTY SYSTEM for offenders? The police/government love the money/income that they receive from speeders etc, why not put a rehabilitation system in place? If it's such a small % of people that 'don't learn' from their mistakes then it shouldn't take much! How about getting a few inputs from pro drivers? So many kids look up to them and their advice could help save lives. I look at dangerous driving like an addiction that needs to be understood, controlled and channeled by the one with the problem. There are also things like - respect, attitude, age, maturity, money, drugged/impaired while driving, etc, it all factors in to this discussion. I think the smart ones don't even say how fast they have been in a vehicle because they know it's unacceptable on public roads.

And hooning is a small part? Yea ok dude, aussies made burnouts what they are, they literally invited hooning, heck we have comps to celebrate hooning, never been to summernats? Look mate, get out the right lane with your Prius, ur the type of driver that causes accidents and is completely oblivious to his surrounding, all ur comments prove that ten fold
@@Lover-of-Creative-Priorities u actually did, go read your replies to other comments, u said that doing it on the road is unsafe and u should keep it to the tracks. If ur too lazy or look up ur own comment, that's doesn't matter, your comment still makes no sense, so in ur mind anyone that's goes to the track is aiming to be in the v8s championships, really how dumb can u be? I dont go to aim for championships, I go for a relaxing day, after long hours as an engineer. But I guess your 2 brain cells couldn't think that hard. Gotta do better than that mate
Piss weak.
The word "hoon"makes me laugh so much
Why??
Sounds like some kind of nocturnal creature. Like a mix between a raccoon and an owl. Be sure to cover your garbage cans, or else the hoons will get into it.
JONNY Because he is a fuckwit.
fuckhole. Hooning is part of Australia and the rest of the world.
Its about revenue, not safety.
thumbs up to brad for being so articulate and showing the real reasons.
Hoons crashing and dying is natural selection.

Jon LeSouef Good luck organising an event for a track day.. Defect stations are being set up at the gates :)

Sorry for bumping a old video.

SOMETIMES COPS CAN BE DICKS. having said that, any reasonable cop wouldn't have made a issue of of it after seeing I've got my fam in the car and the situation.
That last bit really got me fired up. Even if I went to a dead quite industrial area with friends all around to spot pedestrians and other cars with walkie-talkies. in fact, see if you can attend a hoon type thing and find some ways to encourage your kid to do stuff like this as safely as possible and far away from populated areas.
car meets in the center of town to burn rubber are not necessary, no reason you can't do it in a parking lot way out of the way.
speeding on the highway though....you'll never convince them not to, they just need to do it in very short bursts
What about just a burnout in an empty parking lot at 1am with nobody around. Aint putting anyone in danger
Drag race lol your just like everyone bro I’m 15 we don’t drag race we skid skid skid don’t no body get that and what maybe because u got pieces u can go drive a stock car and race we don’t want stock we want a good car that if we do skids on this pad we know we won’t get it shit that’s why I’m saying if they make pads everything will stop it will be the idiots who won’t use the pads and they will use the public roads

Car enthusiasts look like the kids that were bullied at school
Just cause 1 person died doing somethign stupid doesnt mean the entire planet will do the same
The reason for vehicles to exist is to get around.
Dope.
i dont understand how they can defend speeding. i mean im 19 years old so of course i speed, but i know its stupid and wrong. these kids seem to think that the speed limit isnt there for a reason.
How much times a week would you get pulled over by the cops trying to look for a defect
there's a difference between hooning and speeding
not in the eyes of the police.

there arn't any interesting cars left on the road in NSW because its become a nany state.
the police and public have been brainwashed into thinking a modified car is a threat to the public when in actual fact the car is improved (modified), by a person that cares more about looking after their car and therefore not crashing it.
sports exhaust = loader = safer
more power = irrelevant ( a prius can do 165km/h )
bigger brake = better crash avoidance
better suspension = better crash avoidance
i agree, but only if those mods have been done legally and the car isn't so low that you can drive over a Credit Card without scraping like some idiots that lower cars are like
Ross McGlashan Agreed. The ADR doesn't allow very much "wiggle room" so to say for a user to modify the car to his needs.

"a sea of luminary individuals that will contribute to society in a great way by keeping prison guards employed"

Sounds just about right, I bet this is a very very very controversial topic, But that's one more side to it all.
lets buy a supra and keep to the speed limit guys, it all makes perfect sense
Maybe if the prices to get kin the tracks are cheaper and the tracks are opened on a more regular basis and like Daniel said for some of the modification rules be scrapped that would stop us "hoons" racing on the street.
Listening to their driven speeds as some kind of trophy I'm glad to be living in Germany. :-)
This isn't a debate it's a one sided conversation with an agenda.
speeding is like smoking .. you know it's bad for you but it's the satisfaction ...
What croutry has most hoons in it in the world ?
Where I'm from, we don't have a drag strip, we don't have a burnout pad, we don't have a race track, we have no where legal to do it. If we didn't have to drive 600km to go do a skid we wouldn't do it on public roads
They all left in there vl turbos doing some mad skids!!!
wonder how many of them powerskid exited???
i hate how people say you cant do this because you are putting your life in danger. because its my life you dont tell me what to do with it. but i agree that you shouldnt put other people in danger. have a look at the midnight club in japan. thats how you race on street with responsibility.
That's the future of humanity there. We're doomed.
The people in the camera are like
"Oh boy Sick drifts"
2:12 thats a lie, deep down... proud as fuck about that
And that's how you make a 1 sided story against young drivers
This is why I love SCCA. I have some where to fuck about and push the car through it's paces. Sucks for the guys down under that don't have this.
