  • In this guide we are replacing a water pump on a 1.4 TSI engine.
    The water pump is on the gearbox side of the engine, which is brilliant.
    This engine is fitted in the VW, Seat, Audi & Skoda - 1L, 1.2 & 1.4 TSI engine.
    Fairly straightforward to replace.
    I Hope this helps if you need to replace it.
    You do this at your own risk
    Thanks

    This video was really helpful when changing my A3 water pump! Saved me a lot of money, thank you so much! Big thing to make a note of is when reconnecting the battery back there will be a ton of error messages and electronics won’t work, you need to let the car relearn the battery settings, sit with the key in the on position but not turned on for 2 mins, then take a drive for at least 15 mins and everything will work again!

    can you tell me what make of water pump you used

      I would usually use an INA part! If I can’t get INA - borg and beck would be next choice!

    Why are you complaining? You think its better when the water pump is driven by the timing belt? I have changed my water pump, and honestly it is not a dificult job at all.

      I think it’s a terrible idea. Yer saves a timing belt, however it’s reinventing the wheel for no reason!

      @@torqueautomotivebedford So instead of pulling out the battery and disconnecting several hoses (which is a very easy job) it would be easier for you to change the complete engine timing setup, adjust the engine timing, have to hang the engine on a jack to remove the silent block, remove the front wheel for access to the crank- bolt, and still have to disconnect a bunch of hoses and take down a bunch of covers,... A water pump outside the timing belt is a really smart thing to do and I'm glad all my engines have it that way.

    hi, I have a TGI 1.4 turbo manual transmission. Coolant leaks out the side of the water pump, settles on the gearbox, and then flows to the ground (very slowly). Is the water pump or a gasket faulty, in your opinion? thanks for the interesting video

      Hi, honestly it could be either or both!! For safety I would just replace the pump as it will need doing eventually!!

    I did replace my pump too, but it seems that on higher rpm something has developed a rattling/buzing type sound, I'm unable to pinpoint the exact sourse but seems to come from, the pump,
    it was a brand new one. Did pull out the air pipe etc and the belt cover and notices that the belt has move closer to one side, it was dead center when I closed it after the change, could it be too loose and cause noise/vibation, coolant seems to flow ok and temps stay at 90.

      Wow that’s odd, I would remove the cover again and make sure nothings rubbing ect
      Is the belt tensioned correctly??

      @@torqueautomotivebedford Should be to 30nm. Impeller of the new one seemed quite stiff to turn compared to the old one but that's worn, still now that I think of it it probably should spin relatively freely or atleast the same as the old one

    Which way is the correct way to tension the water pumps belt. Some say clockwise others say anticlockwise. Can it be lightened both ways?
    The Manuel says anticlockwise

    • @torqueautomotivebedford
      @torqueautomotivebedford  4 месяца назад

      I think it was clockwise, it goes in the direction of engine rotation!! That’s what I think / remember!

    When replacing the timing belt, the pump must also be replaced for this engine ?

    • @torqueautomotivebedford

      On this engine the water pump is the other side however I would always replace the water pump as it’s done the same miles and years as the belt ect

    Is it possible to rebuilt the water pump and replace the seals?

    • @torqueautomotivebedford
      @torqueautomotivebedford  Месяц назад +1

      I honestly don’t know, I always see it cheaper to replace the unit as I haven’t got time to rebuild it!

    Why should be on tdc coz the is no timing mark on the pump?

    • @torqueautomotivebedford
      @torqueautomotivebedford  3 месяца назад +1

      I followed the job by the book and it said to put engine to TDC, as the pump is running off the cam, I can only assume it needs to be TDC for the correct timing of pump to the engine! however. can't see why it could cause any issues if it wasn't TDC!

      @@torqueautomotivebedford HOW MUCH WAS IT THE TENSION OF THE PUMP 30 NM OR 13 NM??

    • @StuartBaron
      @StuartBaron 4 месяца назад +2

      @@matthiasdeceuninck3409 The recommendation is to tighten all the bolts to 10NM initially, then slacken them off slightly. Tension belt up to 30NM, then tighten the bolts to 12NM. There is a preferred order to make sure it mates properly, so bolt immediately next to the tension belt being 4 and moving clockwise up being 5, 1, 2, 3 ideally when tigtening you retightening bolts 2, 1 and 5 to 10Nm and then 3, 4, 5, 1 and 2 to 12Nm
