    I saw Medvedev hitting drop shots and even coming to the net because he could not win the baseline rallies. That is the true testament of Fritz victory: beating the Russian wall at his own ‘return everything’ game.

    • @Funkytrip73
      @Funkytrip73 Месяц назад +10

      There was a rally midway starting at 0:56 where they started out alright, but ended up hitting safer and safer until they were just 'pushing at pro-level'. Boring to watch until Medvedev got fed up with it and tried a dropshot. Reminds me a lot of Monfils rallies that generally do not make the highlight vids, but tend to be the biggest part of his gameplay.

    • @patrikmarflak6559
      @patrikmarflak6559 Месяц назад +8

      Medvedev should take this as a lesson and go to the net more regularly in all his matches. He did well at the net in this match, won 5 out of 8 net points. But it’s too few attempts, he could have moved forward in other points as well, but usually he hits a great shot and doesn’t follow it forward, then he has to play 10 more shots to win the point. He will not be able to play “the wall strategy” in his 30s, so I don’t know what he is waiting for and why he doesn’t play more agressively. He won the first two sets in Melbourne final against Sinner by playing super aggressively but didn’t really build on that match later in this season.

      True, but keep in mind that the ATP in November is generally the time of year when many of the players are somewhat injured, and then they get time to recover in December and early January. Rafael Nadal, for instance, often had to skip the ATP finals because he was injured. This kind of thing with Medvedev not playing well, it's more normal at this time of year than you might think.

      He cannot improve his forehand much with his unorthodox technique. And either you have the net game in your blood like Edberg, Rafter or Federer or you don't. Meddy is not one of them.

      @@boby4v2 I disagree with you on that. In my opinion, it's really okay to smash a racket. When Medvedev lost the first set, he broke one on his bench and I would never say anything against that. that's okay. but standing there for minutes and throwing the racket around in the court, holding it the wrong way when the opponent is serving and destroying stadium property is not okay. that was deliberate and that is not "fun"

This stuff makes it all about himself and takes attention away from the game and the performance of Fritz.

    Daniil has to immediately fix his serve. He is still there game-wise, but you can’t win matches with such a mediocre serve given the height and game style. Serve is ought to be an advantage if you’re 6’6, not a weakness that keeps letting Daniil down over and over again. He has to figure it out like Zverev once did.
