Just when I thought the age of the Douglas 8 has ended, one pops up in Paramaribo. Beautiful creation by the McDonnell Douglas company. Thanks for sharing such awesomeness with us
We had a ramp full of these in the 80's and 90's at Emery Worldwide Hub in Dayton, Ohio. I remember loading these with 20K forklifts straight through the door then we went to FMC K-loaders. Goal was a 28 minute load time, start to door closed. 18 positions with the last, a horizontally loaded Pallet Net (cookie sheet). Total ACL (aggregated cargo load) I believe was around 100K. I never got tired of watching them take off. We regularly had a full plane of horses too!
UPS had a ramp full, too. I spent a couple of years working next day air back then. At my airport your Emery's (and Consolidated Freightways) were parked right next to the UPS birds. Some nights Emery ground crews were running a few guys short and their crew chief would come over to our ramp and offer us 20 bucks to help get them loaded. I spent plenty of time in DC-8 bellies and shoving cans down the length of cargo deck. I've got a lot of hours on the K-loaders, too. I miss those days on the ramp. Standing next to those CFMs (wing walker position) when the burners lit off was pretty cool.
lovely footage of a rare aircraft these days, and good to see it's earning his keep. Was lucky to see it myself some years ago at my home airport, but unfortunately missed it to film it
Wow! It reminds me of the old days.. some companies are still using this machine. I love it to see this one.. would have been nice if it was jn the orange yellow red scheme or the KLM scheme.. would have been nice.. it has newer engines
Always liked the DC-8 ,a very tidy 1960,s classic, the 60 Series caught Boeing on the hop , on similar Pratt&Whitney JT3D,s as on the B-707,.The 60 Series can carry more passengers and cargo than the B-707, no wonder KLM,SAS, Iberia, Alitalia and JAL bought them by the hundreds. I noticed one bald tyre on the right undercarriage bogie ,would not have signed off the aircraft until that tyre was changed.
This is a former Flying Tigers Dc8 63..built in 1968..... I live in Miami Florida and this airplane is based here ...they park in at the north east corner of Miami airport where the Eastern airlines office building used to be. You can see it from the street....
Fowaca! A boong? #2 spoiler inop that day... the crew probably didn't even know that. Miss flying to Paramaribo. The most bizarre NOTAM I've ever seen was from that airport, some years ago. It concerned "marauding" locals attacking the airport. Won't elaborate, but someone reading this will definitely remember it.

Those 4 CFM 56 are only a whisper vs the older JT3 D engines...

What a beauty. I still remember 'that day' though, when the DC-8 was a little less fortunate...
Wow, that must be a really slow airport to get up a lineup and wait clearance from your parking spot haha. Great video.
Worked on this when it was with DHL and UPS
No you didn't!!!! None of DHL's DC- 8's were X-UPS!
I worked for DHL for 16 year's.
N807DH and N816UP same aircraft

I think I have seen this aircraft in Brisbane but it quite a few years ago .
Anyone else noticed on landing roll-out the set of ground spoilers inop. on the left wing?
Nice video. I think you meant to say 'on behalf of' Amerijet Cargo.

American made. Built to last.
I think it’s ok its way back
Hush-Kitted configured engines still pretty loud.
Those are CFM 56 Engine's they aren't hush kitted! They didn't need to be cuz they met the stage 3 requirements for noise abatement.
Ik zie 777 KLM EN Delta . Right?
Probably not
beide
@@EyeOnFlights ow aiit thank you
