One of the world’s greatest directors that still doesn’t get enough credit from film critics. He goes against the grain with maxamalist production design and images, and can make profound moments in small scenes…
It's not very usual to find somebody interested in Sorrentino's! He's one of my favourite film-makers, with such amazingly beautiful pictures and scenes. He's a beauty hunter, beauty in any direction: emotions, visual perfection, tragedy, dialogue, humour... he's so gifted! Ageing yes, nostalgia, hope, and also the lack of inspiration are recurrent subject-matters in his films. Thank you for mentioning him. We are surrendered by so much mediocrity in today's cinema that it's really worth paying homage to him. And haunting soundtracks by brilliant composers too few people know about : they fit so delicately or profoundly with the various sequences! Preisner, Martynov, David Lang, Tavener...
Thanks for this amazing analysis, I just knew the director's style. After watching The Hand of God, I curious about the director and his directing style. This helped me so much, great video! You better keep doing great analysis video next time.
Incredible analysis. I just watched The Hand of God and was curious about the directors other works. definetly watching the three you mentioned. I hope you'll do one for The Hand of God.
Thank you, Ben, excellent analysis in finding the unifying thread in Sorentino's films. I do hope, in some way, this is being monetized for you; if not, do understand that your effort here is greatly appreciated! God bless!
