      Hear hear Doug! I am 80 and have been using it for just this reason. Between the two of us (FSD and me) we are quite good! I just upgraded to HW4 and have lost FSD for a few months until they catch up, and it feels awful. Autopilot is NOT FSD by a long stretch. The new sensors in HW4 are excellent! The vision system calibrated itself on the drive home, and now shows how close things are 360 degrees around the car! It is yet too conservative, leaving a wider margin than ultrasound, but that will improve.

    I use FSD every day, almost the whole time I'm in my car. I was heading to dinner with a friend and wanted to show it off, so I turned it on. First thing it does is swerve onto the wrong side of the street and then swing wildly back to the correct side. FSD is amazing 95% of the time, and 5% bonehead moves. For Tesla to claim a GTP moment, they need the bonehead moves to 0%. That doesn't mean perfect, just no egregious mistakes.

Although I’m sure Elon’s army of lawyers will find anyway they can to weasel out of it. “Oh per the car data collected, your tires were 2lbs under inflated” or “records show you hadn’t replaced the wipers in 2 years”, etc,…

    Living in Florida, we have millions of snow birds that come down for the winter every year. Most in their 70's, 80's, and 90's. Many who should have stopped driving years ago. I am not kidding when I say that everyone knows someone who was almost run over or was run over on a sidewalk, a parking lot, backed into by someone who could not turn there head to see if anyone was coming. We have had people run over sitting at a bus stop. This could truly save hundreds of lives every winter in this state.

    Any software engineer can tell you, the last 5% takes 95% of the time to complete. You’re completely underestimating how long it will take to get to 99.9% reliability, which is really when mass adoption will actually happen. The chatGPT moment for Self driving will happen a lot later than AI like chatGPT because chatGPT makes massive errors but it doesn’t kill anyone (at least not directly), so it’s adoption was a lot faster.
    Nice video though. Keep up the good work for raising awareness for amazing progress we are making on the self driving front.

They will probably get the word out months in advance, and that will be the ChatGPT moment. I have an idea that Tesla should do an "easter egg hunt" where, on a set day and time, FSD can give you the option of an easter egg destination that you won't know until you get there and the place would be some awesome festival. Interesting little "brain-fart"(not sure what else to call it😅) in the 14 minute range. I took it as an interesting look at what it does when it gets confused. On that note - it is kind of a positive. You were safe, it redirected itself, all was good. Much like a human turning too soon or in the wrong place, re-re-rethinking where it is and how to get back on track. It responded in a human-like think mode. Kinda cool. Love your rides and narration. Thanks!

      Ever wonder why Elon Musk routinely comments on Mr. mars X (Twitter) feed? Without Omar mentioning him? Well, Omar has different code than the rest of us beta users who paid $15k for something promised to work as Elon promoted. Mars is special. He and other special people who make money promoting what is still as of today a fantasy for rest of us, are allowed to have the OBD device that “stimulates” simulated wheel movement so no hands are needed. Also, even more special elite have the wheel movement requirement turned off, with attenuated interior camera monitoring. That is how this works.

    A lot of places do not have lane lines, and some places have lane lines only in the summer warm months. Snowfall and Downpour rain, more inaccuracies ? Still, loved this video, and it does show the advances that have been made. I am a TCP SUV Limo Driver, drive a and 2021 Suburban Premier. I use Android Auto with my Samsung Phones, Google Maps. The Software does tell me " Keep Eyes on the Road , Don't text and Drive" and other things. Other time I was driving from Sacramento back to Marin County late at night with very little autos on the road. I drove FAST. The next morning, on my screen , " Your recent speed was excessive. Slow Down" - which caught me - but now, I think these systems are making me a better driver! For me to make me consider an Electric vehicle is the ability to have an large EV, three rows of seats, and buy 2 of them, so one is always charging. 400 miles range ( not 325 ) is needed. They should remove the cabin camera, not go all in on it. We were sold the idea what we could be watching netflix and playing steam while our cars drive, but now we can't even check a text message in our full self driving cars? The pay attention warning shouldn't be there. It should only beep when there is construction, emergency lights or odd situations.

    I would like to see tests of FSD in NY or more complex areas of Los Angeles. I live in LA, and FSD is constantly making bad lane choices. One example is some streets have parking in the right lane for certain hours of the day, but FSD disregards this and will sometimes choose the right lane when there are parked cars in its chosen driving path. Other times, FSD doesn't have the best awareness of left/right turn only lanes. I think FSD works well in some situations, but needs a TON of improvement in more complex situations.

  • @tralfazy
    @tralfazy Год назад +1

    I noticed a couple of driving mistakes by the FSD software.. 1) Changed lanes in an intersection 2) Crossed a solid white line in a turn lane These things are the kind of things that annoy me when human drivers do them. I hope that Tesla is not teaching FSD to do these things! I don't care if it takes years more to get it right though. Don't release it before it's ready. FSD has a permit and not a driver license.
    Yesterday they made a mistake and unleashed Waymo and Cruise on a few cities for round-the-clock driverless service. I am confident that them releasing it too soon will come back to bite them and it will get revoked after bad things happen. They should have waited until it was ready.

    • @ms1007901

    Question: When FSD does something it shouldn't, like it did at 13:25 but you didn't have to intervene, shouldn't you disengage so that you get the opportunity to leave a voice message where you can say what happened, so that the software can be improved? In the case at 13:25, Tesla has no way to know that the car messed up.

    Tesla FSD pricing should change from $200/mo if subscribed -to- $0.25 per mile driven via FSD with every car enrolled. Don’t want to pay, then don’t use it. Want to pay a little, use it a little. Want to use it a lot, you’ll pay more. This removes the big $15K and $200/mo barriers, gets FSD into everyone’s hands, puts customer cost in their individual control, and Tesla can adjust the per mile rate to stay competitive or even offer free FSD Miles as a vehicle referral/purchase incentive.
