Stanton 881S vs 981HZS phono cartridges

The top 2 high impedance Samarium Cobalt moving magnet cartridges from Stanton. Samarium Cobalt magnets are 1/10th the mass of standard magnets making the moving mass lighter than moving iron and moving coil cartridges. The main difference between the two models is the lower moving mass of the 981HZS; the same improvement the 681EEE has over the 681EE. The mass of the stylus, cantilever, and moving magnet were reduced in the 981HZS that result in higher tracking ability and an extended frequency response. Although the stylus assemblies are interchangeable, the 881S wi wll not be upgraded to a 981 by using the 981 stylus assembly. The coils of the 981 were re-tuned for an optimal frequency response with the lower mass stylus assembly.

Unsurprisingly very similar sounding cartridges, the 981 just edges it when the solo piano strikes right at the introduction 2:45 and 6:54 respectively. I'd be happy with either.

The 981 is less distorted on the piano. Perhaps the record is worn and that is why the piano sounds like it does.
I own one Stanton 981 HZS bit it needs a stylus. The one from LPGear is sibilant. It is such a waste of money. Anyone ever found a good replacement for them?
What I can say and confirm is that Jico has the best quality replacement stylus…. I’ve bought a few different models for my various Shure V-15’s.

@@patrickguice Me too, lots for Shure and even Empire but I am a bit paranoid about the one for this Stanton. The Vivid Line is so bad.
Yeah, the Vivid Lines ones do sound kinda sibilant even through here on RUclips. No use for a fancy stylus shape if the heavy cantilever can't even track right
+1 on the JICO recommendation, though I don't think it could compete with the original
