Like a week ago, I was watching footage of Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 and was like “how could a sequel possibly look THAT much worse than the original?!” Guess DreamWorks wanted to prove to me that it’s not that crazy.
If you haven’t already, you NEED to check out the degradation of the Alpha and Omega movies💀 the first one is one of my favorite movies of all time, but uh.. past that, the other like 6 movies they made are straight from cringe hell
hey, diehard megamind fan here. my biggest gripe with the sequel is the fact that it doesn't effectively add onto any of the previous themes that were developed, let alone add on to the story of the first movie in any meaningful way. it could've focused on megamind trying to develop his relationship with both roxanne and the city after being so used to having minion as the only person he could safely approach without any fear of judgement. heck, this whole team of villains randomly visiting the city plot could've been thrown in too if they didn't go out of their way to imply that megamind was related to them in some way, even though they were never mentioned or even hinted at in the original movie. they could've cleverly designed the villains so that they could mirror megamind's current ideals, acting as the antithesis of the beliefs he now openly expresses. this could've been the perfect sequel, and yet they fumbled the bag so hard that the only way for them to fix this is if they redo the whole thing from scratch. then again, the only thing we've seen of this movie so far is the trailer. we don't know what the rest of the movie will be like, and a part of me wants to be hopeful that this movie won't be nearly as bad as what we're seeing right now. then again, i doubt it.
Katzenberg hasn't been in charge for a while, so I'm not totally surprised. The man isn't perfect, but he seemed to keep the company better focused and on-track. A lot of DreamWorks' newest projects are a waste of effort and resources. Too many incompetent writers in the room.
They’ve always been inconsistent. Yes it sucks that Megamind 2 looks so bad (Especially considering how good Dreamworks usually is at sequels), but having a mixed output in terms of quality is nothing new for them

I'm honestly quite surprised by the amount of backlash the trailer provoked. Not because I thought it was good (it really wasn't) but because this is very much something DreamWorks has been doing for a long time with other properties (such as kung fu panda), who all had their low budget tv shows. I think it really gets to show just how much people loved the original.
Megamind was a self-contained story that didn't need a sequel. This new one looks like it's not even made by DreamWorks' B-team, but the _C-team_ with how low-quality it seems. It being made for streaming/TV isn't an excuse because Riders of Berk/Race to the Edge also had lower-budget animation while still being good and serving to expand the HTTYD lore.
The people making these sequels or remakes don’t understand why people loved the originals in the first place. And that in the words of Yoda is why you fail.
I know that people don't really like kid sequels or spinoffs, but I feel like they could've made a spinoff show with Megamind as a kid- breaking out of jail, going against Metroman, meeting Roxy- and it might've worked. Because then you don't have to worry about ruining the end of Megamind, AND we could maybe see an interesting dynamic as Megamind keeps trying to out-evil himself and Metroman (or Metroboy) starts to become disillusioned with hero work. It's not much, but it's something.
I honestly do see a tv series of megamind saving the city during his humble start of his time as a hero, he would still screw up a few times due to him needing some time getting used to being a hero but his heart is still in the right place. But not even once I see a sequel of Megamind.

Honestly, I did want sequels, two to be exact, but not like this, i wanted to see megamind fill metroman's shoes and see the hero thing from his perspective while asking himself is he willing to keep being a hero unlike metroman.
The premise of the syndicate of evil could have worked, but only if this wasn't a sequel. Imagine if megamind gave a bunch of people technology so they could be evil with him and they just ran away from metrocity with his technology. Now he has to defeat the syndicate and metroman.
in terms of megamind becoming a social media influencer, i can actually see that working as a plot: - whilst megamind is the new defender of metro city, there are ppl that still don't trust him given his past record - megamind discovers social media, and decides to use this as a method of gaining those ppl's trust - he starts a vlog, though it doesn't gain much traction, leading to megamind becoming more depressed and not patrolling the city as often - villains start using this opportunity to wreak havoc, which they then post on their own social medias - megamind notices this and finds the motivation to go out and go on a crime-busting spree, streaming the entire process - the stream view count goes up as megamind progresses through the city, boosting his confidence as he goes (look, i didn't say it was a good plot, i'm not exactly a writer or anything, but it's something)

There's a simple, yet very good reason why many people enjoy Megamind. Megamind is a project that was crafted with quality in mind, with heart and soul poured in. The sequel seems to be hastily put together and came out of the blue just for sake of DreamWorks to pander to the fans who want a Megamind sequel. Fans can't just accept everything they're given. Any new entry of the franchise whether is a movie, TV series, video game, book, whatever, has to the best it can be.
I fell like it's trying to capitalise on recent popularity of Megamind. I imagine without the memes and young reviewers like Schafrrillas existing, who grew-up more with non-disney films like here. For introduce these reviews and people to watch this great. The film could more smaller fanbase than what is it. I really scare of Dreamworks becoming like Disney, or foucs on existing series by its demand.
I always dreamed about a Megamind Sequel for 14 Years, sure it was cautious when I heard it was a TV Series but Last Wish and The Croods a New Age gave me Hope for more Dreamworks Sequel but this isn’t what I wanted, this just feels like they massacred me Blue Boy and my All Time Favorite Movie like 2 Birds in One Stone, these are Darker Times My Friends, Plus this also looks like they took Notes from the Incredibles and Despicable Me, I’m just hoping this was Intentional and Does have Clever Writing.

A interesting idea to make a sequel, could be me about megamind getting to know member of his origin species, and like develop a story about the alien origin factor of both metroman and megamind, and maybe make megamind face against his species to defend his city, aliens which are at least connected in some way with his character (unlike the doom sindicate), maybe in the story he comes back to his planet and things happen. But the original story itself doesn’t need any continuation: is good as it is.
Dreamworks is trying to do what Disney did but nowadays for the most part Disney has already moved forward with stuff like the direct to DVD seqwals and make stuff that at least looks like it's from the same movie/show so people won't completely bag on it

Dispicable Me 1 competed with Megamind near the same time, they are both villains turned good guys with minions, AND I sware the new villains in the new Megamind show-pilot look like the “Senister 6” from The Rise of Gru!! Right!? (I think they did this because the head of Illumination technically works for Dreamworks now).
The biggest problem with this to me isn't necessarily the existence of a Megamind series (putting aside the bad writing and generic netflix cartoon energy it has), it's the fact that this is the ONLY piece of new Megamind content to come out years after the original film and the Button of Doom short. If there was an ACTUAL Megamind 2, like a theatrical film with the same strong writing and animation quality as the original, the lesser quality of this show and it's direct-to-streaming movie wouldn't have been as insulting as it is. I get this isn't produced by the main Dreamworks studio, but it still feels like a huuuuge slap in the face to those who have been waiting for a followup. And a quality one at that. Megamind deserves better than this garbage.
Basically, my thoughts in a nutshell. I can see having the Saturday morning villain of the week treatment, but only if there was a larger villain who actually challenges Megamind on equal footing. Sort of like a Dr. Doom to Reed Richards but for megamind in order to actually grow. If they have to continue the story, then we need a villain who helps megamind move forward and not regress as a character.

I do NOT understand the idea that a sequel couldn't work when they literally set up the premise for one at the end of the first movie just having him as a hero and show Megamind proving himself to the rest of the world considering all he actually did was fix a problem HE caused, just give him an external problem to fix as a hero Easy plot outline, a smart human tries to become a new villain (could represent a different kind of toxic person like people who pretend to care or just a mirror of the first someone who actively chooses evil when given the opportunity for good)and at the end of the movie winds up creating a massive explosion that gives a bunch of random people super powers for the show's rogue's gallery
When I first heard about the TV series I thought it could work as Megamind simply vlogging his life and teaching his audience how to be a superhero, and hirarity ensues because he's Megamind. Then the Show didn't come out until 2024, I believe it was originally slated for earlier? I forgot all about it as it went completely dark. Also I'm fairly sure the actual studio that made MEGAMIND, and tons of other classic Dreamworks titles shut down.
Here’s how I’d change it: Some parts of the plot I don’t care about, but definitely replace this…. Goof Troop with the OGs from the games. Instead of the Doom Syndicate being long lost friends, the Doom Syndicate despised Mega Mind because he was always in the spotlight of villainy while the Doom Syndicate had been disregarded by the public. Or perhaps Mega Mind hired them as mercenaries to defeat Metro Man and they got abandoned at the last second.
When I saw it I lefit thought it was another shitpost. So sad I was wrong ): This movie makes 0 sense. The original was not a massive success, unnoticed until recently- WAIT! THIS IS A HUNCHBACK 2 SITUATION! (Blended with a bit of the beauty beast/DtDVD sequels) • Bad animation • Unwanted • Pilot to a TV show • Sequel to a movie that was not liked apon its release • Made by a studio to get money It's eerily similar to the Direct to DVD sequels Disney made. If we can learn from those, this will be a bad experience (besides kinda the lilo stich, 101 dalmations and lion king 1.5)

It's a goddamn shame that they half-assed this... No, they quarter-assed it, get didn't even go a single cheek. Megamind became quite popular in the last decade, it's a cult classic now. A full-budget sequel would have worked.
To be honest I knew this wasn’t going to be good when it was announced to be a TV show, most Dreamworks shows range from mid or complete ass minus Tales of Arcadia and Dragons of Berk series.
I just don't understand why not only the animation in the designs are different prepared to the first film but to be honest everyone just keeps calling this Megamind 2 if it doesn't feel like a sequel it feels like a short low budget film than a sequel. I am here to say that Megamind will probably get his sequel for real for a cinematic release instead of a Peacock film.

A interesting idea to make a sequel, could be me about megamind getting to know member of his origin species, and like develop a story about the alien origin factor of both metroman and megamind, and maybe make megamind face against his species to defend his city, aliens which are at least connected in some way with his character (unlike the doom sindicate), maybe in the story he comes back to his planet and things happen. But the original story itself doesn’t need any continuation: is good as it is.
If this was a series, I wouldn’t have minded. But since it’s not, I definitely DO mind. It’s gonna be complete and utter trash.
Dreamworks is trying to do what Disney did but nowadays for the most part Disney has already moved forward with stuff like the direct to DVD seqwals and make stuff that at least looks like it's from the same movie/show so people won't completely bag on it

Dispicable Me 1 competed with Megamind near the same time, they are both villains turned good guys with minions, AND I sware the new villains in the new Megamind show-pilot look like the “Senister 6” from The Rise of Gru!! Right!? (I think they did this because the head of Illumination technically works for Dreamworks now).

The biggest problem with this to me isn't necessarily the existence of a Megamind series (putting aside the bad writing and generic netflix cartoon energy it has), it's the fact that this is the ONLY piece of new Megamind content to come out years after the original film and the Button of Doom short. If there was an ACTUAL Megamind 2, like a theatrical film with the same strong writing and animation quality as the original, the lesser quality of this show and it's direct-to-streaming movie wouldn't have been as insulting as it is.
I get this isn't produced by the main Dreamworks studio, but it still feels like a huuuuge slap in the face to those who have been waiting for a followup. And a quality one at that. Megamind deserves better than this garbage.
Basically, my thoughts in a nutshell. I can see having the Saturday morning villain of the week treatment, but only if there was a larger villain who actually challenges Megamind on equal footing. Sort of like a Dr. Doom to Reed Richards but for megamind in order to actually grow. If they have to continue the story, then we need a villain who helps megamind move forward and not regress as a character.
I’ll just stick to watching the first movie after seeing that dollar store ass project trailer of Megamind 2.
I heard DreamWorks is gonna released an unnanounced sequel for theaters next year, so there might be a light at the end of the tunnel

I would find it more believable if it was Metro Man that became an influencer as Music Man instead of Megamind… He was always loving attention and when he decided he would rather focus on music than be a hero it would fit better.. And just have Megamind be like “Ok, you didn’t want the attention as a hero but you want it as a musician when everyone thinks you’re dead?!” 😂💀 Jokes write themselves for that
I do NOT understand the idea that a sequel couldn't work when they literally set up the premise for one at the end of the first movie
just having him as a hero and show Megamind proving himself to the rest of the world considering all he actually did was fix a problem HE caused, just give him an external problem to fix as a hero
Easy plot outline, a smart human tries to become a new villain (could represent a different kind of toxic person like people who pretend to care or just a mirror of the first someone who actively chooses evil when given the opportunity for good)and at the end of the movie winds up creating a massive explosion that gives a bunch of random people super powers for the show's rogue's gallery
When I first heard about the TV series I thought it could work as Megamind simply vlogging his life and teaching his audience how to be a superhero, and hirarity ensues because he's Megamind.
Then the Show didn't come out until 2024, I believe it was originally slated for earlier?
I forgot all about it as it went completely dark.
Also I'm fairly sure the actual studio that made MEGAMIND, and tons of other classic Dreamworks titles shut down.
Here’s how I’d change it: Some parts of the plot I don’t care about, but definitely replace this…. Goof Troop with the OGs from the games. Instead of the Doom Syndicate being long lost friends, the Doom Syndicate despised Mega Mind because he was always in the spotlight of villainy while the Doom Syndicate had been disregarded by the public. Or perhaps Mega Mind hired them as mercenaries to defeat Metro Man and they got abandoned at the last second.

This movie makes 0 sense. The original was not a massive success, unnoticed until recently-
WAIT! THIS IS A HUNCHBACK 2 SITUATION! (Blended with a bit of the beauty beast/DtDVD sequels)

• Pilot to a TV show
• Sequel to a movie that was not liked apon its release
• Made by a studio to get money
It's eerily similar to the Direct to DVD sequels Disney made. If we can learn from those, this will be a bad experience (besides kinda the lilo stich, 101 dalmations and lion king 1.5)

The most weird part of it is that DreamWorks got a lot of money and praise because they DIDN'T do what Disney did in 2022, releasing an instant classic that was a breath of fresh air to the entertainment industry as a whole. Why the heck won't they invest on carefully built projects like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish instead of copying what already bombed?!

It's a goddamn shame that they half-assed this... No, they quarter-assed it, get didn't even go a single cheek. Megamind became quite popular in the last decade, it's a cult classic now. A full-budget sequel would have worked.
Megamind 1 is lowkey a better movie than its so called "sequel" , and we have Peacock to thank for this.
To be honest I knew this wasn’t going to be good when it was announced to be a TV show, most Dreamworks shows range from mid or complete ass minus Tales of Arcadia and Dragons of Berk series.

I just don't understand why not only the animation in the designs are different prepared to the first film but to be honest everyone just keeps calling this Megamind 2 if it doesn't feel like a sequel it feels like a short low budget film than a sequel. I am here to say that Megamind will probably get his sequel for real for a cinematic release instead of a Peacock film.
I like peacock because it streamed the FNAF movie when the movie hit theaters.
