While not nearly as comprehensive as the Beatles Anthology, the Compleat Beatles from 1982 narrated by Malcolm McDowell is about as good of a two hour chronicle and synopsis of the Beatles as you could possibly get.
@@jimbo9208 Neither is the #1 choice. Get Back is a 3 part TV Mini Series. They are one in the same, except the Anthology actually tells a story. Read the description they wrote. "Films, Documentaries and maybe a mini-series." Nothing against Get Back (I think its cool), but if you what to learn about the Beatles the Anthology is amazing. Hey it's their list, but I think it's a huge oversite. An Honorable Mention at the least.
Exactly or even 1982"s The Compleat Beatles, both which have been considered by The Beatles themselves as the most definitive documentaries on the band. They really want to push the heavily edited and re-edited Get Back to make it look like they all got along.
They said in the video that they only counted Get Back because it was originally going to be a feature film. So I'm guessing they excluded Anthology because it's a series and not a film.
George Harrison: Living In The Material World is easily my favorite documentary *ever.* It’s such a beautiful portrait of an artist trying to make sense of the world through music and spirituality. Scorsese is the master of rockumentary filmmaking.
Before getting to know more about The Beatles, I went to the cinema to watched The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years on November 2016. A few days after the release. I heard about The Beatles but didn't know more about the band and their songs. After the documentary comes to an end, I didn't leave the theatre because the lights are still off. Normally, the lights turn on when the credits begin rolling. I usually watch the ending credits until the end in case if there's a post-credits scene. Once the ending credits in the documentary has ended, another extra concert footage of The Beatles at Shea Stadium begins playing. I didn't know that was an extra concert footage came on. I didn't sit on a chair. I was standing and feeling the rhythm while watching the band plays their songs in the concert footage. My body is feeling it. It was an amazing experience I've ever witnessed in the cinema.
The video explains it. They said they only included Get Back because it was originally going to be a feature film. Anthology, on the other hand, was always a TV series and never intended as a single film.
Two of Us...with Aidan Quinn as Paul and Jared Harris as John...depicting a fictional meeting between the two at the Dakota...provides an interesting depiction of the dynamics of their relationship in the post Beatles years.....
honorable mentions go to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Across The Universe, Backbeat, Birth Of The Beatles; even The Rutles: All You Need Is cash could also qualify here
Sorry, but SGT PEPPER was a mess. ACROSS THE UNIVERSE was decent. But it's arguable that those movies aren't **about** the Beatles as such. ALL YOU NEED IS CASH, though...
100%! & narrated by Malcolm McDowell. I’ve watched most of these & still thinks it one of the best, if a little dated. I saw a VHS in my local market of it, & nearly bought it. I only didn’t as I have nothing to watch it on!
Vinnie Wolbert: That's the one I was thinking about. I had it on VHS tape and watched it numerous times. It's kinda surprising that The Birth of the Beatles wasn't mentioned.
Agreed. If you want a short (about 2 hours long), objective documentary on who & what the Beatles were, then the Compleat Beatles is as good as it gets.
There is absolutely one documentary that you should put a number one in your next part two episode that would have to be the Beatles anthology I think that is one of the best documentaries ever because it’s the Beatles themselves telling their own story it’s great my favorite parts are the montage of different I’ll text that is on the five disc DVD set I highly recommend that one for any huge Beatles fan that wants to get into their story and I would highly recommend the book anthology as well.
They said in the video that they only counted Get Back because it was originally going to be a feature film. So I'm guessing they excluded Anthology because it's a series and not a film.
I really enjoyed Get Back. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job. But, it kinda seems like a cheap cop out for ya'll to make this list just to highlight the most recent Beatles movie
In my own pick, The best movie where The Beatles themselves are on it is A Hard Days Night The best tv show/series are both GET BACK and the Anthology And the BEST MOVIE bout the BEATLES is The Birth of the Beatles

I really liked the scene where Ringo took pity on Jeremy Boob and offered him to come along One of the reasons Ringo is my favorite Beatle along with him still being alive and being the same height as me XD
replace 'Yesterday' with 'Anthology' and you've got a perfect list. Granted it's a long running series, but come on, anything's better than that dross.
this brought back a great memory. i was shopping for xmas gifts at a Wood wards dept. store and was looking over the music section where LP records were and there was a large stack of the newly made Beatles double white album which i looked over and it had four large colour photos of them included and purchased the album . and rode my bike home with my treasure.
Aw, no "Two Of Us" ?!?! It's a pretty niche one, but a g r e a t study of John and Paul and their relationship on Michael Lindsay-Hogg's part. Definitely my favorite of the Beatle-movies outside of the 60's; it's incredibly personal and well-paced. 😔👌
I don't know if it counts, but I would also include "Across the Universe." I don't know why people hate that film. Sure, it's got some flaws, like a slogging middle part, but it's way better than the "Sgt. Pepper" movie with Peter Frampton.
I _love_ "Across the Universe"! I'd like to see a sequel where the characters sing post-breakup songs like "It Don't Come Easy", "What Is Life", "Imagine", "My Love", etc.
I'm thanking Peter Jackson and all else involved for giving us Beatle fans one last glimpse of what the phenomenon that dominated the 1960s was about. This documentary has been eminently gratifying.
i always wondered how rock musicians from the 60s 70s and 80s would get so much creativity and power! Whats the big secret? Then it clicked! While randomly watching music videos! It was during a Rod Stuart song called "crazy about her"! I was in shock to realize he's talking about retention! Being a Loaded gun! And the lust is killing him!!! Also worth a watch is “Backbeat”, a fictional account of their Hamburg era, when Pete Best and Stu Sutcliffe were band members. The core story involves the relationship between Stu and Astrid Kircher…
Aside from the movies in which actual Beatles appeared in, these Hamburg Days type movies are some of my favorites. Each one has it's pros and cons, although, they alll give us the presence of that era and what it was like for the Quarrymen's rise to fame as they became the Beatles. My top 4 in no particular order are Backbeat, In His Life, Birth Of The Beatles and Nowhere Boy. if course, there were the inaccuracies, especially in Birth Of The Beatles, although, I like the nostalgic setting. Backbeat was basically about Stuart and John's relationship. Nowhere Boy was strictly about John, his Mom and Aunt Mimi. It was well done but quite different from the book it was based upon, written by John's half sister, Julia. Actually, I favor the movie, In His Life, which several uploads can be found here on RUclips.
Actually the BBC did show The Magical Mystery Tour in colour, but it was on an experimental colour channel, BBC 2, which was only available in colour to people who had a colour television set. Most people in the UK at that time, Boxing Day 1967 had black and white television sets, so it was seen by the majority of its audience in black and white. Up until the mid 70s some people still had black and white television sets and television guide magazines listed if a program was in colour, as they now show if a program is black and white. My parents only got a colour television set in 1976. Most television sets until the early eighties were rented and an engineer would come round and mend them, like the ones who now fix your house phone system or satellite or cable television system. 🎶📺❤️
I know it had its flaws but no mention of Across the Universe. That film is leagues better than Yesterday and deserves a mention despite everything going against it
I watched “Nowhere Boy” and “The Beatles: Get Back” for the first time and liked them, but my favorites are definitely “A Hard Day’s Night”, “Help”, “Yellow Submarine”, and “The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit”.
You know A Hard Day's Night is popular when Animaniacs make a parody of it with the Warner siblings as the main characters. I recommend watching the Animaniacs parody as well. It's a funny homage.
I can't recommend the movie "Yesterday" enough! It is SUCH a fun, fun movie!!! My 16-year-old daughter is a huge Beatles fan, and she's seen the movie 3 times. It's hilarious, warm, and exceedingly original, with an ending that actually makes you think.
Magical mystery tour was the only movie that was truly produced by the Beatles. Paul ran the whole show. It was basically the first thing they did after the death of their longtime manager Brian Epstein. Help and Hard Days Night was produced and directed by people who knew what they were doing.
The Beatles Anthology should have been number 1 (and on the list) It’s their story from start to finish as told by all four Beatles, George Martin, & Neil Aspenall Also, The Complete Beatles from the early 80’s and Wingspan.
They said in the video that they only counted Get Back because it was originally going to be a feature film. So I'm guessing they excluded Anthology because it's a series and not a film.
@@bendowson3124 True, but the description says films, documentaries, and maybe a mini series. I always thought of the Anthology as a documentary, but it doesn’t matter.
I would include The Beatles Compleat - it is no longer available but is the finest documentary spanning their career. Paul bought the rights and withdrew it from circulation when the three surviving Beatles were about to release their Anthology, another documentary worth including.
where is the Beatles Anthology? I spent many hours and drank way to many beers with my Dad. We laughed and enjoyed the greatest documentary ever put together about our favorite band
How about Back Beat, which highlights the early years with Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best?? Awesome film. Also, Best of the Beatles, about Pete Best -- also a very insightful movie.
I think you should do a part two of this awesome group of favorite films and movies, and all of the ones that I’ve seen so far I absolutely love like yellow submarine help magical mystery tour eight days a week and a touring years and living in the material world and now we’re I love a hard days night till now it’s a great movie I’ve never seen a margin or the US versus John Lennon that’ll be great to see.
I've been watching a Hard Day's Night since I was five or six and completely any of the adult jokes, because of their accents and because that stuff will naturally fly over my head. 😆 I still love that movie!
Biggest lesson of experience and wisdom is understanding that anticipation of something is way better than experiencing what you anticipate. I always thought a Rolex watch would be amazing..when i got one, I liked my Seiko much more.
They said in the video that they only counted Get Back because it was originally going to be a feature film. So I'm guessing they excluded Anthology because it's a series and not a film.
The beatles: eight days a week. A very good film. Love watching it. Just wish it would show up on the one Denver channel. So then i could record it onto our Dish DVR.
That Thing You Do! isn’t technically about the Beatles, but it does pay a good tribute to them. Not to mention it’s directed by the legendary Tom Hanks himself
Great list! Thanks for giving the Yellow Submarine and the documentary about George some love. The only thing I'll disagree with is that Robert Zemeckis' Yellow Submarine getting axed is tragic. Hopefully it'll be resurrected or we'll get another Yellow Submarine movie sometime in the near future. Also the Imagine documentary was timeless but there was essentially an updated version released in 2018 called "Above Us Only Sky" that deserves a watch and an honorable mention.
You are mistaken. Based on the concept art for Zemekis 's film and the limitations of his motion capture animation, it's a good thing it was canceled. Check out the images on RUclips. There are four different films with footage from imagine sessions. All have scenes in common, but have footage not in the others. The MOJO post referred to the Andrew Solt film. The films are: 1 Imagine: John Lennon, the Andrew Solt documentary that covers John's entire life. 2. John Lennon Imagine , a full length video album of the Imagine and Fly albums. ( The videos of Imagine, Oh My Love, and Jealous Guy also appear on the Lennon Legend dvd. ) Some versions have edited out all or most of Yoko's songs. 3. Gimme Some Truth, documentary about the Imagine album sessions. 4. Above Us Only Sky , Essentially an update and recut of Gimme Some Truth.
@@tawnieriekena7 How could I be mistaken but you're right about a film that was never released and you're entirely judging only off a 20-second concept clip you once saw smarty? There's a lot more concept art on the project if you look for it. Some of it more successful than others but still interesting. And more importantly a film still very much worth pursuing. And of course we're just talking about concepts. Which means everything could and most likely would have been changed before the final product. Which is the purpose of concept art in the first place. To propose initial ideas, emphasis on initial, to revise and perfect. Also Robert Zemeckis is not only a huge fan of The Beatles but an immensely successful director with the knack for effective storytelling as well. Forrest Gump and Back to the Future among them. Maybe you heard of those? You'll probably bring up his not so successful movies in response but every director has them. However, not every director has films as successful and timeless as the ones mentioned. Also if you actually read what I said I stated that I hope the film will be resurrected. Which means it would be done with today's technology and probably with new improved story ideas as well. It could even be a multimedia film with many different types of art as was the original film. Have you ever seen the original? It's possible Robert's film could have been multimedia all along and the short clip that triggered you so much was only meant to be one of many different styles of art featured in the film. So it's you who are mistaken Tawnie. Mistaken to judge entire film off of such a short clip. Mistaken to underestimate someone of Robert Zemeckis' stature. Mistaken to not fully read or understand my initial comment. Mistaken to not grasp what resurrected means or even the main crux of my point that I hope the film still gets made one way or another. I stand by everything I said previous. Another Yellow Submarine needs to be made. And Above Us Only Sky needs an honorable mention. Or in short, thanks for coming Tawnie.
@@boomieboo You are mistaken about it being a great list. That's why it was written as a separate paragraph. I disagree with your opinion on the proposed Yellow Submarine remake, I didn't write that your opinion was mistaken. Based on your rambling, hostile response , I am convinced that you misunderstood my comments that separately addressed the Three main points of your original comment. I adore Get Back so much! Peter Jackson did so well, but McCartney 321 is amazing too My favorite Beatles film is HELP! Paul shrinking is hilarious i love him hiding in the ash tray 😂 [also another thought, Peter Jackson or anyone please colorize A Hard Days Night thats all we want]
I don't want it! AHDN was conceived to be shot in black and white, so the sets and sceneries were designed accordingly. To colorize it would be inaccurate

I watched “Nowhere Boy” and “The Beatles: Get Back” for the first time and liked them, but my favorites are definitely “A Hard Day’s Night”, “Help”, “Yellow Submarine”, and “The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit”.
Maybe across the universe should been in the honorable mentions alongside yesterday
Birth of The Beatles.
Yellow Submarine should’ve been #1!
I like across the universe
You know A Hard Day's Night is popular when Animaniacs make a parody of it with the Warner siblings as the main characters. I recommend watching the Animaniacs parody as well. It's a funny homage.
I can't recommend the movie "Yesterday" enough! It is SUCH a fun, fun movie!!! My 16-year-old daughter is a huge Beatles fan, and she's seen the movie 3 times. It's hilarious, warm, and exceedingly original, with an ending that actually makes you think.
Wait, whatttt...??? No "Anthology"? Shock horror! 😱 "Backbeat" is another great choice, and also "Across The Universe".
Magical mystery tour was the only movie that was truly produced by the Beatles. Paul ran the whole show. It was basically the first thing they did after the death of their longtime manager Brian Epstein. Help and Hard Days Night was produced and directed by people who knew what they were doing.
The Beatles Anthology should have been number 1 (and on the list)
It’s their story from start to finish as told by all four Beatles, George Martin, & Neil Aspenall
Also, The Complete Beatles from the early 80’s and Wingspan.
Didnt mention Across the Universe movie
I would include The Beatles Compleat - it is no longer available but is the finest documentary spanning their career. Paul bought the rights and withdrew it from circulation when the three surviving Beatles were about to release their Anthology, another documentary worth including.
I love love love yellow submarine! It's my all time favorite movie ever!
where is the Beatles Anthology? I spent many hours and drank way to many beers with my Dad. We laughed and enjoyed the greatest documentary ever put together about our favorite band
How about Back Beat, which highlights the early years with Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best?? Awesome film. Also, Best of the Beatles, about Pete Best -- also a very insightful movie.
No Anthology? Got to be on this list folks.
You forgot a feature lenght film named 'Backbeat'. Terrific film about the days in Hamburg.
Definitely miss this list, Anthology it’s the definitive Beatles documentary
I think you should do a part two of this awesome group of favorite films and movies, and all of the ones that I’ve seen so far I absolutely love like yellow submarine help magical mystery tour eight days a week and a touring years and living in the material world and now we’re I love a hard days night till now it’s a great movie I’ve never seen a margin or the US versus John Lennon that’ll be great to see.
Imagine is the best. I've seen it countless times and will always watch it. I love the Beatles but lennon is the one and only.
I've been watching a Hard Day's Night since I was five or six and completely any of the adult jokes, because of their accents and because that stuff will naturally fly over my head. 😆 I still love that movie!
Backbeat was very good, looking at their early years before they became a bit famous!
My favorites are A Hard Day's Night, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, George Harrison Documentary and The Beatles: Eight Days A Week
Biggest lesson of experience and wisdom is understanding that anticipation of something is way better than experiencing what you anticipate. I always thought a Rolex watch would be amazing..when i got one, I liked my Seiko much more.
ok
It's a great list, but no The Beatles Anthology? Absolutely loved The Beatles : Get Back!
Very good list, though I would put in The Compleat Beatles documentary, The Beatles First US Visit by the Maysles Brothers and The Rutles.
That Thing You Do! isn’t technically about the Beatles, but it does pay a good tribute to them. Not to mention it’s directed by the legendary Tom Hanks himself
Across the Universe should be on here as well
The films are:
1 Imagine: John Lennon, the Andrew Solt documentary that covers John's entire life.

You are mistaken about it being a great list. I have absolutely no interest in further conversation with you.
@@tawnieriekena7 " You are mistaken about it being a great list "," I didn't write that your opinion was mistaken ". Were you dropped on your head as a kid or ever experienced any other type of head trauma Tawnie? Or you're just that weird and detached from yourself/reality?
And girl who initiates a debate by opening with the rambling hostile response is now crying uncle. Your lack of self-awareness and self owns are laughable. And having to edit your comments every time on top of it is also amusing.
And I guess I'll just have to find a way to move on from the trauma of you not wanting to converse with me further.
On your way now Tawnie.
help was my favorite as a kid in 97 about Ringo starkeys issues with the ring. geroge hariason ws a the smart beatle next to mccartney
BEATLES FOREVER
Missing: The Compleat Beatles
Backbeat and in his life the john lennon story was fantastic
"The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash."
My most favorite Beatles movie? Ferris Bueller's Day Off
3:33: HUMBORG?! HAMBERG! WHAT THE HECK!?! XD
Am sure this has been mentioned elsewhere, but it's a bit spooky that Lennon's hotel room (at 10:15) is 1208 😕
The "B" side of the album "Yellow Submarine" is seldom recognized. Those songs are small gems.
My favorite Beatles movies are Help! and A Hard Days Night.
Amazing
Whoever did this is clearly not a Beatles fan. The Anthology 5 DVD collection released in 2003 is the best and is not even mentioned in this video.
They said in the video that they only counted Get Back because it was originally going to be a feature film. So I'm guessing they excluded Anthology because it's a series and not a film.
I would have loved to have seen the CGI remake
No two of us and no Anthology??? Maybe you can go without the first but the Anthology is essantial!
Two of Us, like The Hours and Times, is basically fan fiction. Both entertaining , and worth checking out, but hardly essential. Please see my comment here where I mention around a dozen excellent documentaries that did not make the list. FAB4EVER!
I adore Get Back so much! Peter Jackson did so well, but McCartney 321 is amazing too
My favorite Beatles film is HELP! Paul shrinking is hilarious i love him hiding in the ash tray 😂
[also another thought, Peter Jackson or anyone please colorize A Hard Days Night thats all we want]
I don't want it! AHDN was conceived to be shot in black and white, so the sets and sceneries were designed accordingly. To colorize it would be inaccurate
Straight 🔥
What about Anthology?
the original 1970 let it be film won an oscar, greatest music documentary ever existed! the oscar video is on youtube
