- Time to learn another classic Sublime song on our Ukulele. Today the song is Santeria. A really nice reggae groove and a lot of fun to play on the Ukulele with some cool chords and some passing chords, too. This song would be considered an intermediate song based on the amount of barre chords used but we have a lot of barre chord lessons in general if you want to play this style. In general when you are playing a song that isn't in the key of C, D, G or A you will see a lot of barre chords and even in those keys you can still run into an E chord from time to time, so it is good to just go ahead and spend some time learning the barre chords for your Ukulele, and the best way to do that is with a fun song!

I got my ukelele literally 48 hours ago and you have single handedly taught me 4 intros to 4 of my favorite songs already. You are brilliant and an excellent teacher, thank you so much!!!
Hahaha, I forgot how to play this song and I'm using my own tutorial to learn it!!!
Ventajas de tener un tutorial de ti mismo JAJAJA
Dude your videos have helped me grow so much as a ukulele player and I’m finally getting to the point where I can follow your lessons that use barre chords. I love this song/tutorial so much but I was wondering if you could do a tutorial for the solo? It sounds so good! Thanks again for everything you do man. My uke skills would be nowhere without you
Hahaha
Hey Tyler, you're making me start to like Barre chords, helping me to grow as a musician. Thanks for this! Wife is a big Sublime fan, was torn when Bradley Nowell died.
Rudy Ramirez Jr They were great, really really good stuff, drug addiction is a really sad thing. Really happy to hear about the barre chords, maybe it is all the hours I have spent with the guitar, but they are fundamental and it opens the Ukulele up completely, especially that nice Tenor my man. Happy to hear that you are digging them brother.
The way you do a preview in the beginning, a break down, then a play along, is the best format, good job
+ibjames Rad, thanks man. Happy to hear that.
+TenThumbs Productions Great Lessons mate! Keep up the great work.
You make tutorials for all kinds of music that I like dude. I am loving this channel so far.
Thanks Andrew! I try to make the music that I like and balance it with requests from people out there and beginner songs. 80% of the songs I do though are songs that I play while I am in my house and I have found that people have responded really well to that because a lot of people have similar music tastes. Tomorrow we have got an awesome that you will love I know it. If you got to tenthumbspro.com under the Ukulele tab we have all the songs we have done listed by artist too, so it makes it easier to search for the songs you like. Thanks again man!
O men im just starting with the ukelele, and am so happy i just found this channel, awsome explanations and songs! Sweet channel!
Yeah Tomas, that is what we are here for my man! I hope we can make your Ukulele learning experience as fun and as accelerated as possible. New songs every Wednesday and Saturday with a bunch of good stuff coming this year. Thanks for the kind feedback man, it is really cool to here people are having fun and learning with us. tenthumbspro.com has all the songs we have done listed by artist, too, it is a little easier to navigate than the youtube channel. Thanks again man!
Thanks for the lesson man
I really enjoy reaggae songs for uke that have a bunch of bar chords(they are so much easier to play than on guitar) They are so much fun to play!
I couldn't agree more, Sublime and the Ukulele go fantastic together. Thanks for watching.
Oh, this is great-I love bar chords because I have long nails (and don't want to give them up to play ukulele) so single notes are more difficult for me.
You are a good teacher. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the good vibes and kind words.
You da man! Best RUclips instructionals for Uke out there! Thank you!
+OneHarp Excellent! Thank you so much.
Hey Tyler! I haven’t visited your channel in a while as I have enjoyed just experimenting with other pieces you taught us :) thank you for another amazing learn... you make it so simple! Thank you!!
Awesome! That is why we do what we do. Thanks for the good vibes.
thanks Tyler, keep up the great songs!

Too much bar chords. I'll have to pass. I'm a beginner and this bar chords are a devil in disguise.
The definitely take some working up to, but they will be so rewarding after you practice and come back a little bit later down the musical journey.
Just a tip coming from a guitar player, don't play your bar chords like him. bring your hand up and use the first and second parts of your finger instead of the second and third. Much much stronger.
I play guitar too, and these barres work fine for me.
right, but your hands are probably stronger than the average uke player. More tension on steel guitar strings, and more strings.
I could just be an ignorant guitar player but a bar chord on that thing looks like it'd be really easy
can someone link a diagram of the chords? I'm trying to use uke tabs but i cant match up the tabs there to what hes saying they are here
Sweet lesson mate!
Thanks man, it is a great jam. I have been working on the solo for a little while for the Ukulele too...
so beautifull! thanks!
+igor gomes You are welcome igor. Thanks for watching it.
Yay!!!! Another Luna ukulele user:)
+Stramonia Leaf I love mine, you?
I do love mine too, It's a gorgeous instrument, but the sound is not as beautiful as my old uke, sadly.
The inlay on neck of your uke is very cool. Does it show wear after awhile?
hey man, your job is pretty awesome! good vibes from panama
My Grandma was born in Panama, I love that country. My family comes from Herrera.
Hahaha! I love your style, man! 😂 (This is my first video of yours I've seen.)
Thanks for vibing with us! Hopefully we can keep you learning for a long time.
thank you, inspiring...
U can play the same song with the chords F A Dm C then for the well I really wanna know part it’s Bb C F Dm and that’s it soo much easier
That is how you transpose it to the key of F, so it is a little bit higher than the recording but still sounds great. If you want to play along with the recording though you'll have to play in E.
oh ok I was wondering about
@@Alselongatedcoins Don't get me wrong, it still works great, but you just have to sing a tiny bit higher, for some voices it'll actually even sound better.
dude i have the same uke as you, its a beaut
+Daniel Ramirez Such a beaut.
do you have a breakdown for the finger picking part it's driving me crazy
Your thumb plays the G and C strings on the 1 2 3 4 and the &s would be played on the A and E strings. I also on the one pinch both the G and the A strings, give it some extra hot sauce.
Can you do "Time of your Song"by Matisyahu? 😁😁😁
good one
ed santana Thanks Ed, I loved this band and I'm really happy to be able to share it.
I can't understand how to read the note chart that you've displayed, why is there a 7 :,( please help
Cheers, try this one. ruclips.net/video/hQzdjpYYHck/видео.html
TenThumbs Productions Thank you! You rock!
Does your uke have a pick up?
I don't really know these chords. do you think you could do like a closeup. or a popup that displays were to press your fingers.??
The pop up with chords happens at the beginning, but it uses tabs to explain the finger positions. Can you read tabs? If not let me know and I'll share a video helping you learn to read them.
This is sick, but where is the solo? Happy Thanksgiving!
HI! Loved It! Can you do the "caress me down" and "Scarlet begonias" (original from grateful dead I know)?
+Ana Catita Hey Ana! That is funny that you said Caress me Down, five downs ago I got asked to do it and I did it! It is done and ready I am just waiting for the Christmas season to end, maybe I can send it to you and Dominic early.
+TenThumbs Productions ANWSEOME! (I saw the other guy comment about “carress me down” and I had to reinforce it, cause it's basically my favorite song from sublime!) I understand, I'm really knew to playing the uke, and with X-mas coming up I also had to learn a few X-mas songs to play to my grandma -.-'. And thank you also for the Dropkick Murphys X-mas song tutorial!
Ana Catita My pleasure, have a rockin christmas
+TenThumbs Productions You2!
Nadazma Ultra Uke Helper (just google it ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got great success with it.
can you do caress me down by sublime??
+dominic antini Such a good idea, I just went and learned it. Look out coming soon.
+TenThumbs Productions yeahhhh man!!!!! just subscribed for that, thanks dude!
In the chorus, the A is different than the Ab from the verse am I right? When I look at you playing it, it looks like it's the same fingers, just up one fret from the Ab that you gave the fingering to. Am I mistaken?;
+Trevor Hartwell You are correct my friend.
Tyler, having a hard time with the reggea strumming, do u press the note than completely lift your fingers off the strings or just let them on the strings?
paduag1782 you keep them in the strings, you just want to release a little pressure
How do you do a mute strum?
Luna is beautiful
heyy man, itd be awesome if you could do "good vibes" by rebelution
+Jim Nelson Hahha, I just saw that it was you that made the request. Reggae is pretty easy, let me see if I can get the chords and see what I can do.
your the best mang
id be cool if you posted atleast a picture of where to place your fingers for each chords instead of just saying which chords your using, especially with bar chords
#TenThumbs Productions Could you please teach the more advance players the tabbing break down, like the part you play in the intro of the video
+Little RAB I was looking for the part that you were talking about and I couldn't find the exact breakdown you are referring too, but we have been a lot with scales and blues jamming and improv if that is the kind of thing that you are looking for.
I click on other vids but yours come up haha wth
Hey
Complicated way of explaining the chords- would be good if you could break them down and show them in a different format so beginners can follow easier :)
I see where you are coming from, and I sympathize, I know you just love the song and want to learn, but it isn't a beginner lesson on how to play barre chords, an is an intermediate song, and the chords, with the tabs, are taught well enough that even beginners with a little experience can learn them. The best thing for you to do is learn how to read tabs and come back to the video, you will be much more prepared to play the song ruclips.net/video/hQzdjpYYHck/видео.html good luck!
Awh thanks for replying! I appreciate it. I've been able to learn this song from other videos including the bar chords without confusion. I used to play guitar so it wasn't a hard transition to ukulele. Perhaps my brain just doesn't compute this method haha thanks anyway and sorry to hassle!
Luna Eli just curious, if you use to play guitar and can read tab, why couldn’t you learn the chords? What was hard about it? Just wondering. Also, did you learn the song in the same key? Thanks 🙏🏼
I think it's just my brain that doesn't "translate" it well when it's displayed with just the letters and numbers. I'm self taught so don't follow the standard ways I guess. I process it better when I see the chords displayed in more of a visual format I.e with dots representing where the fingers go etc. It helps me to put it all together easier. The strum pattern and chord progression come easier after that hah. Does that make sense? I learned two keys for this one- E and F so not the bar chords for this in particular but for other songs I've learned with bar chords :). I guess I just need to learn to read the music properly instead of DIY haha. I got your strumming pattern well though!
Your luna gave me a chub
+Richard Sneed Did the same for me, that is why I took it home. Didn't know much about the company but once I played it I knew.
This is so frustrating... I ca get the strumming pattern but the chords are all different online so im playing different chords trying to find the ones you are using. I wish you would have put up a diagram in the corer so I know what Ab chord you are using because there are a million different ways to get that note online!! know what I mean, what are they four chord progressions you are using???
Even just a simple E major search puts so many different ways to play that none and none of them on the fourth bar of which you are using in the begining!! but I liek the way this tutorial sounds so i dont want to go find one who did put up the chords and how to play them in a diagram
My intention wasn't to get you frustration, sorry for the confusion! Let's see if we can help you. The Ab shape that I use is this one ukulele-chords.com/Ab it starts with a barre of the third fret with your index finger, ring finger 5th fret G string and the middle finger on the 4th fret of the E string. Are you comfortable reading tabs? If you can read tabs it will be much easier to understand the chord shapes.
@@TenThumbsProductions thanks for the quick response. there are only two tutorials i found online for ukulele and this one is by far the better. thanks for posting it I will try it and tell you how it goes.
@@TenThumbsProductions and thanks for the diagram on the Ab chord but what are the diagrams for the other three chords you are using? A million times thanks!! saved my life.
@@nicoco4974 At the beginning when the chords are introduced there is a number system, called tabs, you can use this video to help you understand how that works and you can make all the chord from there ruclips.net/video/hQzdjpYYHck/видео.html hope that helps! Rock and roll friend!
no tabs on pattern :(
wheres the vocals at man?
I am slowly starting to sing more in the videos. I am starting to realize that despite the bad singing it still helps as a refrence for people to kind of get the hang of it... but singing man, literaly that thing that scares and embarrasses me more than anything. Sorry Jeff, I will try to get more of it going in the future.
yea im trying to sing as well..not very good but trying lol. but it woulda made learning this song alot easier if you would have sung along just to kno exactly where your at in the song ya kno? but this video still helped me out a lot thanks man!
Thanks for the valuable feedback Jeffrey, it will be something we will try to incorporate more of in the future lessons. Happy Ukulele playing and thanks again for letting us know what we can do to make learning easier.
