It's actually a fairly typical thing for Troi to say. Her feelings, senses, impressions, intangible empathy ... always outweigh her rational, logical, scientific thought.

i'll assume she was just impatient and anxious to free her fellow prisoners, otherwise she definitely could have muttered something about ion storms causing resonant chroniton waves and bought herself some time

Yet if Sisko was in command he would see the potential threat these beings held should an unsuspecting ship not heeding the Federation warning could pose. Sisko would have transported them into the nearest sun. In light of the ugly non Star Fleet actions he had done, e.g., killing a Romulan Senator, poisoning a planet’s atmosphere, etc this, he would feel, could be justified. Well, it could….. in the pale moonlight.

What's interesting is that the three prisoners possessing the crew were actually concerned about the wellbeing of the others and gave up rather than let them be killed. Really makes you wonder about the circumstances of their being imprisoned here and what "crimes" they committed, whether they were really criminal scum or just desperate after centuries of being incorporeal beings thrown around by a storm for 500 years. For all we know they were just political or religious dissidents punished to an eternity of suffering by an oppressive regime, rather than criminals being condemned for harming others.

Course push to shove they would have blown up the entire ship anyways... You'd think knowing that the aliens probably should have played the angle of "We were trapped here against our will" angle instead of straight up admitting they're all criminals.
Wouldn’t you be so admitting if you feel like you’re about to win? Unless it’s more like having done your time to the point that you’re unwilling to commit another crime again.

There was a TNG episode that was postponed from the originally planned air date. The studio at KCOP put together a hasty message saying, "We know you're frustrated! We know you're mad!" then cut in a clip of Worf muttering, "You have no idea." Then they mentioned the revised air date of the episode.
Always enjoyed the KCOP station ID announcers voice back when I lived in Santa Monica. He had a deep sonorous voice.I was there when TNG first aired, oh so long ago.
I remember that one.
All this time, they were the ones with all the cards. The ones who had hostages.
But when they beamed aboard, they unwittingly gave Picard several decks worth of cards.
Occasionally they let Marina Sirtis really open up and show her acting talents.

Montgomery Scott is by far a better man than me. The Tribbles to you, me, Humans in general is by the end of the episode Tribbles are best enjoyed with caution, they don’t have bad intentions.
More similar to this episode, mercifully freeing a large number of evidently superior life forms / personalities / individuals with a purposeful drive… juggernauts perhaps being best description…
“Khhhhaaaaaaaannnnnn” and his similarly skilled, genetically altered “friends”… likely better described as “loyal and patient acquaintances”.
Good intentions of humans lead to Spock being dead with a funeral end by chance returning in original timeline (and both eventually)
In the newer alternative timeline Kirk being quite quickly saved by Tribbles of all things considering that’s our discussion. However, the lovable Tribbles Scotty delivers to Klingons who if you research Klingon historic events I only learned after finding the 70’s Star Trek cartoon and perhaps even literature approved by Gene Roddenberry.
Klingons hate Tribbles because they caused a planet wide famine killing millions.
Scotty sent them directly to a likely violent stomping festival, or the Klingons starved on the ship or self destructing, the required procedure of a Klingon vessel forbidden to threaten their Empire.

Wow, so someone is running a penal colony there but is telling no one and keeping it open for the curious traveler. The Enterprise should file charges against them for gross negligence.
Or at the very least, set up warning buoys around the planet, similar to what you see around some prisons.

Marina Sorts playing a ruthless bad guy? So she was practicing to play Demona!
This ending never sat right with me: they allowed these people to be sent back to some sort of hellish punishment, without even knowing why their civilization deigned it appropriate. They couldn't've even asked what caused them to be there? Looked for alternatives? Just felt like a loose end...
I mean, I think their conduct throughout the episode made it pretty clear why they were there.
I just added a scene in my head in which another Star Fleet vessel arrives and starts analysing what can be done.
I think it would be fair to say that the survival of the ship and crew was more important, and clearly they were facing a group of people who had no qualms about harming both. Plus, there was that whole Prime Directive thing to sort out.
I think this could be regarded as the first occurrence of the writer's desire that O'Brien must suffer. The writers went on to write further occurrences of O'Brien must suffer in most seasons of DS9.
And they were some of the best episodes.
Strongest shoulder in Star Fleet.
Kirk is still my favorite Captain, but Picard had his moments as a great leader. Not just as a man of diplomacy, but being a master tactician. Just the calm look he gives the possessed Troi when he tells them to get off his ship is SOO bad ass.
They demanded that the Enterprise transporters be disabled - including those on the Shuttle Craft. A rather large plot point, conveniently ignored in Nemesis and resulting in the death of Data.
A plot point ignored in every series from the TNG era.
Brent Spiner himself wanted Data dead. He had been wanting him killed off for years. He was bitter and angry after Insurrection and when asked if he'd come back for another movie he said only if they agreed to kill Data off. That's the real reason Data died. And why Spiner has a writing credit in Nemesis.

That guy must be laughing at everyone else decaying after a few decades. While he maintains a massive intellect.
I know that in this episode, Picard had his suspicions about the entities possessing Data, Troi, & O'Brien. And, although nothing was solid, the more I think about it, the more I believe he was right.
The entities inside Data, Troi, ans O'Brien were not long lost Starfleet Officers of a destroyed Starship frkm centuries past, they were in fact a group of alien hostiles with ulterior motives. That's what I had drawn from this episode.
Why did Dr Crusher exam Data? That’s a job for Geordi
Actually Crusher worked many times along with LaForge or on her own on Data over the years(I mean canonically in various TNG episodes) so her knowledge of his systems and Geordi's are probably on par with his.

^ This is a psychotic episode.
Blowing the carbo bay door wouldn't disable Data - he can function for many hours unhampered in the vacuum of space per Data
But Troi and O’Brien and all the hundreds of prisoners would be dead. Plus, if spaced, Data would no longer present a threat.
There's probably some alternate timeline where possessed Data bumps into Lore while floating through space.

In this case, like with Armus, I wonder if the better thing might not be to disintegrate these lifeforms in the transporter beam. They'd be putting them out of their misery, and there's no guarantee that someone else might not stumble upon this moon.

BEAN working hard to try and get uploads scheduled (the 'THIS TIME NEXT WEEK' community post and YTshorts on the other channel should be the first of many) so i can consistently drop uploads rather than disappearing and appearing every few months ... so far the plan is tng every ten days and sg1 every eight, not sure how long i can keep that up but hope is if i put in some work i can afford to take periods off without the channel going silent 🖖🏻
