Lately I’ve been watching sailing channels and sadly I find too many sailors are either brave as a bear or are missing more nuts than a Studebaker … how do you go out to open sea without performing a 100% inspection on all systems and break down all over the place then blame the boat?? M now legally blind and haven’t sailed since 2008 but I know better than getting underway without checking every electrical , mechanical or hydraulic connection on the vessel. For crying out loud one channel even had ripped sails in an oceanic crossing.

@@LyfeUntethered you could, nothing wrong with it. The route I did was a buddy took me out on his sailboat and gave me a crash course on showing me how to tack/jib and the mechanics of the main sheet. I read a bunch of how to books then just took my sailboat out sailing, honing what I know and watched videos on RUclips for the things I didn't. I still learn little tips and tricks now and then. I'm not the end all and be all of sailors by a long shot lol, but I'm confident I could do a transatlantic crossing and not die.....now watch me do a transatlantic and die...🤣🤣🤣🤣

So, rather than all the drama, an experienced intelligent sailor would have prepared for the journey. But hey that wouldn't get you views on youtube would it. That thing needs to be dry docked and worked on. You essentially sailing an old clunker that could kill people, just like that arrogant ocean gate bloke. It's all good for likes till someone's lives are lost, and then your insurance company and investigators thankyou for the video evidence.

I get it. But I probably didn’t make clear that we
spent a week working on a boat that was on the hard for months, supposedly fixed, but it wasn’t. The shoddy workmanship of that boatyard didn’t fully reveal itself until we were at sea.
We bailed after 16 days.2 months later, I’m back to finish the journey. Like at this second I’m in Nassau typing this. Gonna start wrenching in the morning.

We have been to the Exumas 5 times. Stayed at Staniel (in your background) and a private island. Hard to find a more beautiful place. The Grotto you were in is pretty cool. Go in at low tide and high tide - it is all different. There are other passageways out of it than the two main entries. Good luck with your adventures. Get that boat restored correctly, and it will be good to you.
