I know I'll have to answer for what I've done. I think I can'. Terribly presumptuous of the general but at least it shows 2 very important facts; 1. He has an inkling that he has done something dreadfully wrong, in spite of his rationalizations about it and 2. The matter of Eternal Justice is rightfully very much on his mind. Don't know if that qualifies as an authentic confession but it would be nice to think there was some 'redemption' despite his otherwise catastrophic decision. 😕

    I think A STOP AT WILLOUGHBY is a beauty of an episode, too! Something about seeing the duality of modern day problems conflicting with the longing to go back to simpler days. It didn't help that the protagonist was basically married to Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty! The way she mocked him after hearing his dream life convinced me that some men are genuinely better off keeping women at a distance...😂❤

      Hello Jose, I took the name GART WILLIAMS out of respect of a good friend and co-worker I knew in the 1980s. We worked for a guy that reminded us of Garts boss, Mr. Misrell. "Push, push, push!" Our mutual admiration of that show and of that particular episode helped relieve the burden of our work.
      On my birthday, in May of 2000, I was informed my friend, Ed Galvin was killed in an auto accident. Ed was one of the most decent human beings I ever had the honor of knowing. That night an episode of the Twilight Zone aired on a cable Sy-Fi channel. Do I need to tell which episode was shown?
      This RUclips channel is dedicated to the memory of Ed Galvin.
      Until that day we meet in Willoughby, have a good one.
      Gart.

      he made the odd gaff, in 2001 at the space station a sweater was left over a chair, in the next scene it wasn't there: Kubrick saw this in the rushes but didn't have time to reshoot for continuity, so he added a voice in the background announcing a sweater had been found and handed to the desk.

    Gart let me ask you do you think the Ripper character was to make fun of Generals in "general" LOL and the Military industrial complex. Or conspiracy theorists who use Fluoride as their seminal issue. That long ago i tend to lean to the former not the ladder. I love everything Kubrick. Sterling Hayden was in another of Kubricks movies The Killing and was great in it. Great video.

    • @martm216
      @martm216 4 года назад +1

      @@Jauhl1 nooo - you couldn't be more wrong. The whole premise of the film is that Ripper has gone mad because he has become impotent. This is why he suspects some communist plot to interfere with 'our precious bodily fluids', by means of fluoridation. Since the last time he did deliver the goods, he hasn't been able to do it again. He SAYS he denies women his 'essence', as if it's his choice. The fact is that he has no choice. He can't do it. THAT'S the joke. Because his military-masculine self-image cannot accept the idea that he has become impotent, he hits on fluoridation. The whole theme of the film is impotence. The impotence of the military and the President to do anything to stop the inexorable advance towards nuclear war which Ripper's actions have set in motion. The provisions of Plan R and the existence of the Doomsday Machine have taken events out of the hands of those who are supposed to be in control of them. They are all rendered impotent. Major 'King' Kong at the end goes sailing out of the B52 with a nuclear bomb between his legs. His phallus has been overwritten by a piece of military hardware.

      " He SAYS he denies women his 'essence', as if it's his choice. The fact is that he has no choice."
      Says you, directly contradicted by Ripper's dialogue in the film. Have the film's director stated something to this effect, or are just making stuff up?
      Impotence isn't something someone can control. Ripper assure Mandrake the loss of essence haven't reoccurred. Mighty weird that, if he in your interpretation are talking about his unsatisfying hardons.
