Netero said that he wasn't the best Nen user anymore. There is like 4-6 stronger Nen users in the world at this point. If you think one blow of his ability do nothing to the top ants (Meruem and Pitou). Keep that in mind for the future.
No. he was. For the simple fact that it was only after his death that certain folks began their hunt towards a certain restricted zone. He was just merely being Netero when he said he wasnt the best nen user anymore to Morel and Knov. Now was he as strong as he was at his peak? Probably not. But fairly certain he was close after he went into hiding to focus on powering up. Neteros power kept the buffer between the world and the restricted zone.
Netero downplays his own strength significantly. As of right now (as established), there aren't any character that really seem stronger than Netero. There are a couple possibilities, but we won't know until we actually see them do stuff. I'm thinking of three characters in specific.
I mean he is over 100 years old of course he is not the strongest anymore but there are not many humans that can surpass him at this point of the story ..For example hisoka is still weaker than him...Netero in his prime (50-55 years old)was in a whole different level from the other hunters...
You know what is interesting about this fight? If Meruem didn't have that handicap of "forcing netero to surrender" he would have won almost instantly, but even if he killed Netero instantly that bomb would have exploded anyway.
Prime Netero would have died far before this Netero since he would have lacked decades of experience and this fight with Meruem was all based on brain.
@@LeParesseuxNoir No i did not say that.Meruem would probably still win..But it would have been a much more difficult battle for him...Remember that Netero went to Dark Continent twice where he probably encountered and fought more powerful creatures than the chimera ants...(Chimera ants are from the Dark Continent too )

One thing that impressed me when netero at the end sayed " if there is hell ill meet you there " which indicates that even netero does not believe in god .
In the original manga, what netero said was "meruen, king of ants, you understand nothing of the infinite potential of human evolution, and the sins we committed" (best i can translate) which will make more sense because of the nuke inside him.
RIP Netero, the Hunter Association will miss you. This also shows how the arc could have ended at any time if people had dropped nukes on the country. Shows that no matter how strong you are, or your nen ability, 99% of the time, A NUKE wins.

I often wonder what would have happened if Netero actually took the time to talk to Meruem instead of going at him head on, Meruem wanted to speak and not fight. Understandable that Netero thought this was the only way but it's got me curious that if they spoke if the outcome would have been the same
well the world leaders wants meruem to be dead, or else they would dropped nukes (possibly more deadly than miniature rose) on east gorteau, that's why netero said he dont have much time
After reevaluating Mereum's extended delving into strategy, I think Netero could've beaten him if he had fought him before Mereum went to the palace. If he never developed his strategic mindset he may very well have never figured out how to get through Netero's perfect defense, whether due to ignorance or pride.
@@LeParesseuxNoir I'm not saying it's a sure thing, but Netero's defense undeniably took careful strategy and planning on Mereum's part to get through. Overall Mereum was powerless against the Guanyin's strikes.
@@VegaSlides the think is it did nothing much. Zero hand did "zero" much so i don't see how he would won. Even if meruem has not his strategic, we know that he still is super smart so it's not to much to think he would come up for something and take him out.
The thing is Mereum never tried to kill Netero. He was just trying to convince him to tell him his name. If he was tryyin to kill Netero he'd do it pretty quickly.
@@cihads4698 The times Meruem snuck through Netero's defense he could have easily decided to land a fatal blow instead. But what I'm saying is without his strategic mindset and humility he could very well have lost through attrition. Meruem was undeniably powerless to stop active hits from Guanyin, and Netero's attacks were faster than Meruem. Netero didn't show any signs of getting fatigued until Zero Hand, but it was said that Meruem was "beginning to feel the slightest hints of dull pain." Less than a minute into the fight. If Meruem never pierced the defense he would eventually lose assuming Netero can use his Hatsu for a decent amount of time.
There is always a level of raw energy that can overcome any amount of strength, even in anime. Nuclear weapons are so irrationally powerful that short of intercepting the bomb before detonation, it is simply not possible to survive. Even dragonball characters would be susceptible to this level of destruction due to the radiation
In my opinion no body can defeat meruem alone but multiple people with a good plan and talent can do it Because no matter how strong you are in hxh there's always a way
To be fair, the King was TOO kind with what he proposed to Netero. Biologically speaking, at this arc, the ants became the new "humans" and the humans became the new "animals". Meruem just said, some of yall are impressive pets, we will play with you, feed you, give you baths, etc. Basically, he will do whatever humans did to the previous un-evolved animals. As I said, biologically, ants are superior and humans are the new "dogs" of the planet. And considering that humans (when they were the top of the food chain) killed most of the animals, then Meruem was WAY more kind than he should.
I feel like the dub’s dialogue was better in the last scene. Instead of saying “You know nothing about humanity’s infinite potential for evolution,” Netero says, “You know nothing of the bottomless malice in the human heart.”
I hate that translation about the infinite potential for evolution. It is in fact malice according to the manga and Malice have a lot more meaning taking into account the context of the situation and the messages of this arc.
If you think about it, Netero probably was not happy with how he went out. He finally met an opponent who could match him but, instead of respectfully facing defeat, he had to resort to using underhanded tactics to win for humanity. When you think about it, no one really won that much in this arc.
this dialogue "never estimate human beings" is why HxH themes are a masterpiece that no anime could've ever reached (except Attack on Titan, another masterpiece), nen can be powerful and stuff, but an atomic bomb, chernobyl is still a very toxic place to this day, so yes! humans are very scary and should never be underestimated.
MonkeyKingBambina Whether you think Togashi writes better than William that’s for you, but I never underestimated Togashi I still think he is a genius but that specific dialogue isn’t even the best in its respective series, and I believe multiple writers wrote better shit than that which doesn’t mean Togashi is any less brilliant
Wow, I'm surprised these girls actually see how even that Meruem wants to do good for the humans and nurture them and put them in their own special place (segregate) the humans will still be in bondage and slaves. It's 2020 and this sounds very, very familiar!!!!
Netero is not in his prime , it was already mentioned in this series . The zodiacs are the most power ones now . Half of them as combos could be able to defeat mereum at his current level . But mereum is still a child .post nuke mereum's power level itself is godly eventhough he is just a kid . But netero in his prime would have been able to atleast cripple mereum. So prime netero could kill the royal guards on one on at their current levels . They have more aura reserve , sure , but netero in his prime also will have significant aura capacity boost and his skill and abilities and experience Would help him win .
Yeah, there was no debate, he had to go, he was a threat to humanity. Even if there was a debate, Meruem would just say the same thing: he will be in charge and humans, with the exception of talented ones, will be food.
Cabal He fully appreciated humanity and even admired others for their humanity and leaderships, his mindset won’t change in the absence of knowledge of his incoming death
@@Darshe0 I guess my question is, when do you pinpoint the point where meruem wouldn't be a threat to humanity? Cause right before he got blown up he said these exact quotes: "Humans will no longer be used to propagate the species"--> only referring to their disruptive ego "(We will)Allow humans to permanently survive within a special zone" "We shall re-evaluate the number and quality of humans to be used as food" So up until that point, we're basically zoo animals and livestock? I'm sorry but I'm glad Netero blew the shit out of him. I pinpoint to him suspecting/finding out about his death and remembering Komugi, which kind of happened all at once, as the point where he wasn't a threat anymore.
Cabal Unnecessary length, I’m fully aware of how Meruem used to think and everything and his development but at the point of his fight with Netero he was “wavering between ant and human” and as he regained his memories he fully resided on his human side, making the “there’s no other way Meruem had to go” untrue because Meruem DID change, he became better as the whole point of his development is supposed to show
Netero is the chairman of the hunter association but his is not the strongest, not anymore as he has said to Morel and Knov. That was à Netero who used a great part of his nen to keep his youth and strength but imagine prime time Netero.
I don't feel like they totally get the show. Same with The Normies and Blindwave. With the Normies it's because they struggle with reading subtitles and have a bad attention span. Blindwave watches it in English and looks like it as a regular shonen, if there's a shonen to have long chats about, this is the one. While they merely give it 5 minute post episode talks. I feel like Imon and Abi just don't really get whats going on a lot of the time and they just end up making thirsty comments. The only RUclipsr atm thats putting out great HxH reactions is YaboyRoshi. He doesn't complicate things for himself, has a great schedule and is very into it. He understands the themes, he gets the intricate storylines, pieces of character development and how it all ties in together. I've only seen him not remember what Wing said about opening up pores when Rammot got awakened, but I'm sure his editor will remind him. I've also noticed that, his editor seems on point, telling him little bits here and there he missed. While Blindwave's editor acts very arrogant on Discord, Normies' edits always are all over the place (not just HxH). Check out YaboyRoshi if you haven't get. He's at Greed Island on RUclips and a few episodes into the CA arc. He loved the HA arc, the YN arc and also the GI arc. He actually pays attention lol, imagine that. Heatah and Huss Reacts are also done with the show and have a great reaction series as well.
Not to be racist but Blindwave have got the whitest convos and take on the show xD and yeah their breakdown of it so far is as if they're watching a typical shonen, and it's cuz largely in part that they're watching it dubbed. Normies are irritatingly slow, and because they watch so many other things they forget a bunch of details, but when they;re focused and actually get the characters and where the story's headed, they've got the best, most relatable reactions. Heatah and Huss are the best showing that any real men that understand the show would tear up. Don't forget Kimchi & Tofu, real anime fans fit for the anime reaction job
I like Imon and Abi, I think they get the show, it's just that everyone sees different angles of the story- i.e. certain things will jump out more to certain viewers. For example, they kind of "missed" how Netero was getting bored of being so op, that upon fighting Meruem, he felt grateful to be challenged in such a way, hence the heart at the end of the last ep. That's something that most men simply won't miss since we are (in general) more competitive. I can see how that's not a detail that would jump out at them. Kimchi and Tofu got a lot of flack for not understanding the series and yet, to use a specific example, Tofu has been the only one I've heard accurately summarize and understand the Koala ant's story, something that either went over people's heads or they didn't care enough to notice. My point is that everyone has their own perspective that they bring to the table and it's cool seeing different ppl's take on something as multi-layered as this show, which is why most of us watch HxH reactions in the first place. You can tell Imon, probably on account of being a mother herself, has developed a very "motherly" instinct towards Killua and is very perceptive to his story arc and how things that happen in the story will affect him. While somebody could be on the other side of the spectrum and not even consider Killua's thoughts/feelings/character arc (cough Rob from RT) But yeah, I'd cut them some slack, it's their first time watching the show and they do so on a weekly basis intertwined with other shows, while most of us who "get" the show have seen it more than once, watched Aleckzandr and others' analysis videos etc. There's things we all missed on our first watch On other reactors: I never even started watching blind wave when I heard they would watch it in english and your description of their vids is kind of what I expected. The Normies I've watched a few of their HxH reaction and I really think the girl is the only one who gets the show, and one of the guys gets it half of the time but the other two seem lost most of the time, and it does seem to be because they get distracted and miss some of the subs, like you said . Yaboi is cool, I just wish he had longer discussions afterwards. Heatah and Hus are probably my favorite, I really like their post ep discussions and they can be hilarious
@@DelightFools kimfus are two person job...one sensitive dude that provide reaction and the smarter other that connecting the dots, not to mention their editor lol
But Imon and Abi do get the show? It's just that their reactions might be drastically different from what viewers are used to seeing from other reaction channels. And I don't really see any problem with not being quick to catch on; remember they're putting out THEIR genuine and raw reaction, not something that's specifically tailor-made to fit everyone's expectations. Also, we viewers watching these reaction channels have seen the anime lots of times, but they're seeing for the FIRST time - they're bound to miss some details here and there that wouldn't be apparent until a second watch, and this is something we viewers must keep in mind. I personally love their reactions because it feels like I'm with friends. But hey, if their videos aren't your cup of tea then it's all good, but there's really no need to criticize harshly, it's not that deep sometimes! And I actually don't mind the thirst comments, I think they're hilarious
Fact: netero used to be the strongest hunter but because of his age he weakened so there is only a few hunters who are stronger than netero one of them is ging
The difference in strength is kinda crazy when you think about it. Meruem was fighting while trying NOT to kill his opponent. An that is after taking several initial hits trying to be diplomatic at first. So Old man didn't stand a chance honestly. But this fight showed just how much Meruem had both grown and still had room for growth. Understand the feeling of fear alone is a HUGE step towards being able to empathize with others. Can't wait for my favorite part of the series still yet to come :)
@Killua zoldyck he would also have far less experience, remember that is the statue that hits the target, not his fists, it doesn't change with Netero's physical strenght, he only needs the speed to pray and he still had it. The only reason Netero survived that long against Meruem is that he had experience to choose how to attack for so long before Meruem verified all his combinations.
@Killua zoldyck I'm not saying the didn't have the statue, I'm saying that its power doesn't rely on Netero strenght but only on his speed. And yes is because of his experience that he didn't die after a few minute since it was a battle of brain.
@Killua zoldyck Not having real challenge doesn't mean he doesn't get experience, even just meditating is important in this matter. I remind you Nen is far deeper than that, I doubt he didn't keep training his nen. Of course now he has a far better control over it, and this is crucial since his Hatsu requires categories which are not part of his own (He is an enhancer) and only training and experience allow you to use other categories at their best (within your own %) without wasting too much energy.
@@bigman4407 I mean, thematically?. not really. Overall influence on the worldwide markets etc.? sure I would argue that without Yu Yu Hakusho, there wouldn't be any HxH. There's more thematic/inspiration parallels between those two (for obvious reasons)

So I would not talk about that and let them go at their own pace so they can go into the reaction as blind as possible.

If you like some foreshadowing, do you remember the little test he had against Gon and Killua back in the Hunter exam? Remember how he deliberately didn't used an arm and leg against them? That's the bias Meruem was talking about.
everyone else in this mission was a sacrifice, they know the royal guards are too strong for win in a 2 vs 1 or 1 vs 1 (Gon and Killua vs Pitou, Knuckle and Shoot vs Youpi and Morel vs Pouf), Shoot lost in around 10 seconds vs Youpi and others survived just for specific things happened like Komugi injured or Youpi that don't care about killing the enemy
In episodes before we also have Know that say "isn't important if we lose 3-1 if the one win is vs the king" and Netero say "my subordinates probably are death at this point" (when talk with Neruem for convince him to fight)
His real sacrifice was Gon when he saw pitou healing komugi in the palace. They need to get rid of pitou or else his poison bomb plan is useless.
@@satashaahnberg7831 not really netero knew that if the royal guard came to find a survived king they would also be killed by the poison even if pitou healed their wounds. It's radiation

Netero: Uses a mass produced nuke to end the fight
Imon: B e a u t i f u l
Abi: W h a t a p o e t i c w a y t o d i e
“A prayer comes from the heart”
That ending blew me away. Humanity was like, we can't risk it all on you defeating the king. You lose, we NUKE!
I thought of it as Netero knowing that he would die fighting the king, and was basically able to convince the committee let him live out his final wish and not have the bomb be dropped in a place where humans live
What I loved about that ending that's like humanitys way of saying "We could have nuked the ants any time."
“......five second rule?”
🤣😂I’m dead.
In Japanese the Kanji for the word Evolution also means Malice.
Yeah I think malice fits here much better.
Saroojan Vasanthakumar you are right but the wordplay is a nice touch
The official manga translation says malice, I believe.
Yeah, the version I watched said Malice and I thought it fit perfectly. Much better than Evolution.
I definitely prefer the translation of the kanji to mean malice but the wordplay is lost either way which is a shame
God damn I love Netero so much, such a badass character. Love rewatching these episodes
this arc was about humanity i think the right subtitles were "you have no idea of the bottomless malice inside the human heart" which shows the viewer how scary and evil humans can be.To add to that meruem was starting to shift towards his human side after meeting komugi while netero and mostly gon on the other hand were losing their humanity so the whole philosophic meaning behing netero/gon fights was...who is in the wrong?who is more human the actual humans that also have nuclear bombs and immensely lethal weapons and dont care about sacrificing even their own kind for the sake of achieving whatever goal they have or even so much as for simple money? or the ant/human hybrid who killed humans and everything in his path from birth but started to question that after meeting komugi?
When Netero stabs his heart you can see the massive x shaped scar on his body from where the doctors planted the bomb.
Togashi did that for every time we've said "why don't they nuke em"
Don’t underestimate humans infinite evolution for malice...
You work at Burger King bro, the only malice you have is getting mad because you have to come to work everyday

netero just has a bomb hidden under the gungi board while they were playing
Netero sure went out with a bang! 😃😃😃
Dammit I wanted to say it 😫
Netero said that he wasn't the best Nen user anymore.
Netero is still the strongest human we have seen in hxh. No one is stronger
@@ozzyzamora3199 Maha Zoldyck was hinted at being way stronger than Netero
I mean he is over 100 years old of course he is not the strongest anymore but there are not many humans that can surpass him at this point of the story ..For example hisoka is still weaker than him...Netero in his prime (50-55 years old)was in a whole different level from the other hunters...
Thick thighs save lives 🙏🏾
Thanos: I. Am. Inevitable!
Netero: I. Am. Netero! 'Finger blasts heart'
You know what is interesting about this fight? If Meruem didn't have that handicap of "forcing netero to surrender" he would have won almost instantly, but even if he killed Netero instantly that bomb would have exploded anyway.
My dude was over 100 years old..Imagine prime Netero...
You think prime netero could have take on meruem ? Lmao
Prime Netero would have died far before this Netero since he would have lacked decades of experience and this fight with Meruem was all based on brain.
@@LeParesseuxNoir No i did not say that.Meruem would probably still win..But it would have been a much more difficult battle for him...Remember that Netero went to Dark Continent twice where he probably encountered and fought more powerful creatures than the chimera ants...(Chimera ants are from the Dark Continent too )
@@Kal911 what experience? This episide showed us, through flashback, that netero has been unfulfilled as a fighter in his later years. I doubt his recent experiences have added to his fighting prowess at all.
@@solodolosolomon So do you think that in over 50 years he never fought anybody using his nen? I remind you Maha Zoldyck was better than him (Zeno himself stated that he is the only one who survived against Maha, not the only one who has won against him). And also he trained for months his mind and body to regain his prime strenght to be able to face Meruem. Anyway still, Zero barely scratched Meruem, how can anybody thinks that even if Netero was younger he could have won? If Meruem wanted to kill him he would have beheaded him instead of ripping off his leg but he wanted to have him admit defeat, in a serious fight, Netero wouldn't even had time to use Zero, the only move able to make Meruem feel something.
The arm and leg neteruo lost in this fight are the same limbs that he refused to use against gon and kilua when playing dodge ball
I liked meruem. I feel he was in the right in this situation. He was killing to talk things through and was showing that he could be influenced.
I love how you guys never write off Meruem as terrible, you always think it's still possible for him to get better and see his learning as a good thing. I saw it this way on my first watch through but have seen many people do the opposite and not really understand his turnaround nearly as well.

Chrollo is best girl. That’s all.

This also shows how the arc could have ended at any time if people had dropped nukes on the country.

Yeah unless you have a nen ability that can recreate atoms or de split it then its possible to survive a nuclear bomb

After reevaluating Mereum's extended delving into strategy, I think Netero could've beaten him if he had fought him before Mereum went to the palace.
If he never developed his strategic mindset he may very well have never figured out how to get through Netero's perfect defense, whether due to ignorance or pride.
I don't think so honestly, he would have just kill him less quickly

In my opinion no body can defeat meruem alone but multiple people with a good plan and talent can do it
Because no matter how strong you are in hxh there's always a way
To be fair, the King was TOO kind with what he proposed to Netero.

If you think about it, Netero probably was not happy with how he went out. He finally met an opponent who could match him but, instead of respectfully facing defeat, he had to resort to using underhanded tactics to win for humanity. When you think about it, no one really won that much in this arc.
A bomb is the chess/go/monopoly equivalent of flipping over the table so no one wins or loses.

Unnecessary length, I’m fully aware of how Meruem used to think and everything and his development but at the point of his fight with Netero he was “wavering between ant and human” and as he regained his memories he fully resided on his human side, making the “there’s no other way Meruem had to go” untrue because Meruem DID change, he became better as the whole point of his development is supposed to show
Netero is the chairman of the hunter association but his is not the strongest, not anymore as he has said to Morel and Knov.
While somebody could be on the other side of the spectrum and not even consider Killua's thoughts/feelings/character arc (cough Rob from RT)
But yeah, I'd cut them some slack, it's their first time watching the show and they do so on a weekly basis intertwined with other shows, while most of us who "get" the show have seen it more than once, watched Aleckzandr and others' analysis videos etc. There's things we all missed on our first watch
On other reactors: I never even started watching blind wave when I heard they would watch it in english and your description of their vids is kind of what I expected.

"five second rule" 😂
"bring me my tea bitch"
