Found this channel today. I'm creating a game that mechanically looks pretty similar, and megaman zero is my "game feel north star". I'm like 3 months into my project, so I've got a long way to go, but you are now my unofficial rival.
15:20 I don’t think the third attack of the combo should stop the player. I think the third attack should only trigger IF the player stops first. So if I’m just running and mashing the attack button, then I’d just do the two attack combo. (Maybe with a significant cooldown between combos?) If I position myself where I need to be and stop moving during those first two attacks, THEN I can land the third blow. I just think stopping the player when they aren’t trying to stop will feel janky. If I realizes I’m in the wrong spot and need to run, I’d rather be able to run. (Unless the third attack animation already started, then I should be punished for my mistake)
just a thought about the atack while moving thing: i think in some games the character slows down while attacking. maybe slow the character more while the damage increses. Keep it up. Spritework and movement already look AMAZING!
That’s better than the idea I suggested. It also would feel really organic. Of COURSE it’s harder to run while swinging a sword! It SHOULD slow you down!

First attack: can be done while moving in any direction Second attack: can be done while on the ground, adds a little dash Third attack: can be done from anywhere, but adds a major dash forward and high gravity applies to the player, and they’re stopped from moving during and a few frames after the attack.
Sure! Unfortunately there isn't a super easy or simple way, you just have to draw each pixel art animation. Aseprite is the tool I use for pixel art, and it's great! As for how to get started with the spritework, I can recommend a couple pixel art tutorial channels that helped me when I was learning: www.youtube.com/@AdamCYounis www.youtube.com/@PeterMilko/videos Also, just looking at pixel art characters that I really liked and seeing what they did for each of the animations for references is really helpful!
as much as I love looking at your beautiful face, I think the video would be more interesting if you'd replace that with game footage (even of other games related to what you're talking about, etc)
