Glad you’re feeling better David! Here’s to a full recovery quickly!
Been enjoying your fun videos for years now to the point where you seem like an old friend. Thanks for your efforts!
I appreciate that!
@InjectBleach-em9tg he said "it seems"....
There is always one of you that needs to be negative...
Glad to hear you're feeling better, alhough it's understandable that's an ongoing process. For what it's worth, you're looking and sounding well. And keep in mind we're all here for you too.
As ever, thanks for the video.
The way I look at Patreon is, I owe Dave the cost of an annual set up, in fact much more.
Also grateful to hear that you're feeling better Dave. Hoping for your continued health.
Yeah, I’m in Oshawa and got stuff delivered the same day too for only $7. That’s amazing!! Great customer service from Solo.
Good stuff
I love the smell of lead solder in the morning 🤪
I remember the "Time Tunnel". It has been on ME TV continuously for years on Sunday mornings in Cincinnati OH.
Looks like a Kahler wiggle stick lived there at one time. The hole pattern looks like the behind the nut locking mechanism.
Maybe those toggle down lockers?
I hardly ever see those.
Found a picture of a Kahler string lock on Reverb ;-)
OK, don't know what I'm talking about, but on the sites Whammyparts ('instruction guidelines', small image) and Kramerforumz ('string butler', large) I find a picture of (the same) Epiphone Les Paul with a Kahler string lock (5513) with a matching drilling pattern.
I have very nice 2022 Fender Stratocaster and in the spring cavity they just painted over the same chater.
Glad you’re feeling better. Keep working at it. You can do it, Dave! 👍
Glad you’re felling better and better! Keep up the great work of fixing the world one guitar at a time.
That's the plan!
Saw a photograph with a device in the same area as the holes in that headstock, it was supposedly to pull the strings straight with no sideways tension on the nut
Be well, Dave.
My 2014 Les Paul had the same poor routing finish when I opened it up to replace the crappy defunct pcb electronics inside. I too fitted mine with the vintage circuit and proper components.
probably had a kahler locking nut on there with a TP-6 fine tuning tailpiece
It’s great - Dave works hard and videos his efforts so I can spend my evening watching oh yes
Wow, thanks
Hi Dave. Good to see you
I’ve gotta say I bought a 2022 Gibson les paul std 60s neck and out of the case it is perfect every note rings nice paint nice wiring the only change I made was to put in a set of THROBAK PAFs and a Doyle’s coils wiring loom with bumble bee PIO caps “genuine” and switchcraft gear.
Love your videos! Hope you are healing well! I miss the Gootch videos!
Keep on keeping on the best you can Dave. Always love your projects.
That guitar appears to have had a Kahler locking clamp installed on it. Likely in conjunction with a Gibson TP-6 fine tuning tailpiece. It's really a good setup and the ultimate in tuning stability for the Les Paul. 🤘
the headstock has little stability at that area as is... So lets drill holes in that area. WTF?
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff The holes are very tiny and they are actually past the most unstable part of the headstock, at the scarf joint. The Floyd Rose clamp used to drill 2 holes right THROUGH the scarf joint?! That was a disaster on a Gibson style guitar!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Kahler clamp cause a headstock break? Still, when I installed one on a Les Paul, I only used 2 of the 4 screws?!! They’re really only necessary to hold the clamp in place. All of the strings being locked, together in one plane creates all the force and tuning stability needed. Lol
@@Metalcop5150 I think that a friend's Les Paul Custom had that as well, it had the locking nut and the fine tuners on the bridge and I thought it was odd, since I didn't see many Les Pauls with trem systems that had locking nuts. I'd just started playing, so I didn't know about the bridge fine tuners, and I concluded it had some sort of a trem on it.
@@Metalcop5150 This also could've had the Floyd Rose FRX trem on it. I did the exact mod you're referring to though on my LP with the TP6. Great for fine tuning stability, bad for my playing style since my picking hand would often knock into the fine tuners.
@@InjectBleach Yeah, I knew that, I just misspoke, going off on a tangent about locking clamps and neck stability. It’s too bad that Gibson doesn’t use a scarf joint, they’re MUCH stronger!! Lolol
I didn't have to wait long for one of my favorite comments. "You can do it Dave!" All is well.
I don't look at this electronic shit to much, but when I see you,,I watch!
Feel better sir . I have enjoyed, and learned so much from you it hurts me to see you unwell .
Feel better Dave ✌️🤘
Nice job Dave -thanks for that & hang in there towards a speedy recovery!
Hey, from Chicago!
Dave in da house!!!! Working and fixing a Gibson Les Paul. Thanks Super Dave.👏🔉🎼🍻🍺
Glad you feel better, Dave.
Feel better buddy! Cheers!
"Someone spoon-routed it"... I'll have to remember that one. Too funny Dave. 😁
Everything I have read, studied and tried points to 50's style wiring for a Gibson 2 pickup, 2 tone configuration is better overall. Personal preference I guess. I have never experienced treble bleed.
I loved the TIME Tunnel. It became STARGATE SG . Land of the Giants too....fun stuff Dave. I like this kind!
Great to see you again! Be kind to yourself. All the love from Australia.
Thank you, I will
Glad to see your back! Be safe our friend.
Thank you, I will
Uncle Dave...what did we discuss yesterday? You're supposed to give us a warning when you stick that face in the camera?? My dog walked by, got a glimpse and now he's in his safe space. Get better Dave. He said "Knob"
He also said, " keep your tip shiny" and "don't lose your bit and pieces ". -righteous words by Dave.
Have you ever tried using a thin rag to remove the volume and tone knobs? I find it much easier than using a tool to pry them off. You just wrap the rag under the knob and pull up.
yes and SNAP !!
I bought a Les Paul Anaconda Burst and the same thing....flipping saw dust loaded in the cavity and falling out of the access to the 3 way switch. I found this out because my volume control seized up. Guess why. SAWDUST!!!!!!!! THANKS GIBSON!!!!!!
Gee, Rich ...sorry to hear....How much did this little pile of negect in manufacturing cost you??? GIBSON USA.....What a shame......
There you go.
If I was lucky & mom was either feeling generous or too busy ironing, yeah moms did that in the 60's, I got to stay up to watch Time Tunnel, Otherwise I had to wait until summer vacation from school and see it on reruns. Definitely one of my favorite shows of the period.
Dave you can't be more than a year or two older than me. I'm bumping up against 65. But yeah James Darren was always impeccable.
I added a Floyd Rose FRX to my LP and had to drill two holes at the truss rod cover/locking nut.
Hi Dave. It is good to see you are feeling better, yes it takes a while to fully recover.
Anyhoo, I am guessing this is a 2000-2015ish LP? I have a 2012 Studio that has the same drill pattern, it was from a Gibson lever lock for the strings.
Most of these string locks found there way into the large No13 round filling cabinet (Garbage can) as they were a real pain to deal with, for very little benefit.
Mine had it's removed before I got it, and it stays in tune just fine without it.
You can usually tell by looking between the tuners on the back of the head, there will be a couple holes for were the tool holder for the allen wrenches was mounted, but not all.
I see you too use a weller soldering iron they are the best can’t be beat.
Yes..you can get parts..mine has lasted over 25 years. USA made
I hope that you are feeling better Dave and that you and your family have a Happy Easter. ✌🏻
Same to you
Glad to see you back.
The condition of the control route is a sign of dull router bits and sadly is common on Gibson guitars.
The holes on the headstock are from a Kahler string lock. That guitar might have either had a TP6 Tailpiece or a Kahler floating bridge (and had some really good refinish work on the body)
no on the refinish work, why not fix the holes? if yer refinishing WTF?
Get better soon, Dave!
Dave after dark. Glad you're feeling better!
Hey dave, can, t get used to ur new look without the whiskers, u look like the boy wonder, I love watching ur vids u r a living legend!!!!!!, luv ya man...
I like your choice of knob remover tool, you can also use it to eat your Wheaties!
"Don't be vague, ask for Sprague"
Great video.
I still watch The Time Tunnel on cable,
MeTV
Must have been built on Friday afternoon. Lol
Still loving your stuff Dave. My Daughter got me one of those 2015 Gibson SG Specials with a robot on it a few years ago as a very lovely present… I immediately swapped out the robot with Kluson tuners but it still has that brass nut. Can you ever get it to tune up properly with that?? I think sometime I’ll get a bone nut put on. I just have to find a good guitar tech near where I live in Aussie land😊
it's the Stew Mac spoon!
Go Dave. Get well buddy.
5:52 that’s what she said
Hey my good buddy Dave!! Hope all is well with you and your enjoying your back bacon and beer!
Yes we are
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff Rock on my brother!
"my fine tuning system is this" made me laugh almost as hard as the line a few months ago about Glen Campbell being the only guy in the world that liked Ovations ...
Nice video dave love your shave and crew cut. I still have kinda long hair no beard. Someone really did a number on this guitars wiring not Gibson. Some fool. But dave comes through again with fine job!. Thanks dave for the video
I've also always found Gibson guitars to be a royal pain to intonate properly, it's as if Gibson deliberately go out of their way to limit the range of intonation adjustment on their bridges, the A and D strings always want to be adjusted further towards the bridge pickup than the adjustment range will allow so both saddles end up hard up against the front of the bridge and still reading flat.
That's what Dorothy said...." Make sure you Tin ur Tip"
Take care Dave!
Those extra screw holes in the head might be some kind of string buddy which moves the strings closer towards the slots in the nut supposedly to help with staying in tune.I think it’s a bad looking addition.
NO
You can tell that you are getting better after that insane accident that you were involved in. I still can't believe the idiot kept going. For a while it seemed like you got agitated real quickly at no fault of your own. If I were hit in the head I'd get agitated also. You have come back slowly to being the same old Dave. Here's wishing you a full recovery. I'm hanging in there with you brother.
G'day Dave.
Dull router bit, isn't it? I mean it's not the end of the world, but it could have been cleaned up depending how much pressure they were under on the production line.
Extra headstock holes are to make it easier to snap the headstock off.
Since when did a Gibson headstock need help? Back in '73, I bought a used EB 2TD, and I couldn't figure what the waxy-looking stuff on the back of the neck was. Turned out to be epoxy.
That doesn’t look like a mil spec wiring that Gibson is known for…
Hello from England. They surprise me too. The last one I bought brand new was a total mess. No Chinese factory would have let it out the door. I now call them Gibshit.
Seven bucks for shipping is great! You can't drive your car there & back, pay for parking and other bs for seven bucks.
I hope your health issues are at least manageable. That would be one giant step for Dave-kind! Cheers!
Here's to your good health, Dave.
A Wednesday without rain is a dry hump day…
Finding a Gibson Les Paul with loose sawdust in the control cavity is also a dry hump day.
Dave, you absolutely killed the value of this guitar. No one will ever believe Gibson has routed a cavity that clean..
Take care Bubba.
Fine work and commentary as usual, but I gotta point out that the original pots had “Gibson” stamped on them.
so do these
Your soldering looked much better than Gibson's!
always does :)
Baby Face Dave
Hi, have you ever set up a spectre bass and if so where can I view it
Everybody I've known to cleanup like you've done; has a new romantic escapade going on. Onya.
I've always had a hard time with Gibson guitars, and Gibson-style guitars, even after I've taken great pains to make sure they were properly set-up I haven't come across a single one that has ever played well for me, I've also always found them to be a royal pain to keep in tune too, even when I was 100% sure I did everything right.
Opposite Day today. I've been playing for decades and finally found Gibson sgs. The perfect guitar. I have two of them. They stay perfectly in tune and they are flawless. One is a 1969 the other is a 2020.
Had Gibsons dating from 1962-2019 since 1982, all played good and all of them stayed in tune, just sayin.
I love my gibsons..have always played and sounded great to me
@@TeleCaster66 I think it's a common things for people to say whether it's true or not, that Gibson's have all this tuning issues.
@@216trixie I think so too. I currently have a 2019 Les Paul Special, stays in tune perfectly from the factory.
Not forgetting Les started out working out of Epiphones facilities before Gibson bought Epiphone then Les migrated that said is one better than the other
Awesome video.
It seems that they had the wiring right back in the '50's. Why did they abandon it in favor of the "modern" wiring?
hey Dave the face hair removal makes you look younger lad
👍🤠👍
🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
The "fine tuning system" appears to have been a String Butler. It's something I've seen on a good number of Gibsons.
no sir..no holes drilled for that gadget
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff Locking nut and bowen trem maybe ?
All Les Pauls "should" have 50's wiring, unless you have EMG's in it. Without a treble bleed curcuit, modern wiring robs your tone. Better off not even having tone pots, because rolling off ANY volume drains all your high frequencies.
The Time Tunnel was a psychedelic cornucopia made of dry cleaning fluid...
You're welcome.
In addition to the cavity chatter, those top halves don't quite match up in shade. Must've been a Friday.
My 2018 LP control cavity also looks like that. 🤦♂
My 08 Standard as well.
Wow, and I'm guessing that Gibson had the hide to charge something like $4k or $5k, or even $6k for poor workmanship like that?
Bought a new Gibson almost a year ago. Picked it up maybe 2 times. Always go back to the tele/esquire
My 08 Goldtop LP has that same bad routing on the opposite side of the cavity. Gibson QC
Your fan works too well - I couldn't smell your Flux fumes at all.
ok the splinters aside...that electronic work though....if that was from the factory then holy hell that was an awful wiring job!
