Funny, all my crappy parts all work perfect. The cheap tuners I have bought work better than my expensive ones. Crap is crap, but some cheap stuff is fine.

That's right! If the stuff works well with the guitar, it's all good.
I've found the most sus thing, is almost always the pickups. Put a nice DiMarzio or Duncan in there and even those dime sized pots and "whtvr quality" switches rise to the task of not wimping out the guitar as weak links.

I bought 4 squire teles - and have been suitably surprised with the quality and sounds. I had 1 "lackluster" neck pickup, tuners with too much play and a cheap selector switch out of those 4. What you are doing here will definitely yield a very nice guitar, but 3 of the 4 I bought are just fine for a career of music making - and the fun part - is playing well in front of "cork snifffers" on a stock squire. Excellent video always enjoy

I built a custom telecaster years ago that I used all Fender american parts to what I wanted but Fender didn't make unless you custom shop ordered it for ridiculous money. Used a USA Fender bridge with 3 brass compensated saddles, Fender Mod Shop SCN pickups with the custom shop grease bucket wiring harness and never liked or connected with the guitar. 2 years later and thoughts of selling it ( I dont sell guitars, I just buy more) forced close scrutiny of my build, I replaced the bridge with the Babicz full contact 6 saddle model. After I properly setup the new bridge the guitar finally came to life. I fell in love with the guitar for the first time and still adore playing it to this day. Unless you're dealing with a vintage or special edition guitar feel free to customize and make your guitar work for you. I'm the original owner of a 1975 strat that was the first guitar I ever customized and never regretted doing so since I still love it. It's amazing what changing even 1 part on a guitar can do for your connection to the bliss a guitar can provide. No sense having a guitar as a wall ornament or an investment unless you aren't a real player. A happy guitar is a played guitar!!

I get what you’re saying about wall ornaments. But I’m a crap guitar player. I love playing but I’m just not a great guitar player. I own some guitars that are better than what I need. But I have them because they are wall art. I appreciate them for their beauty. Sure I enjoy playing them. But I also love the way they look. Instead of covering my walls with art, I cover them with guitars. And I’m sure there are people out there who can’t play a single chord who stick guitars on their walls, and I’m okay with that. I’m glad some people find beauty in objects outside of canvas with paint on it.

I bought a “new in box” 2012 MIM Tele from a closing local music store for $350 cash, in 2021 during the stupid lockdowns. I did not replace EVERYTHING, but I didn’t like the Ceramic pickups, so I got Fender Tex-Mex set on sale online. While I was at it I replaced the electronics; with CTS pots, Orange cap, a Fender 3 way switch and pull-back wiring, A Cobalt Blue pick guard, on the Olympic white body. I’m into this beauty fit less than $550, she sounds great; capable of a sweet clean tone, and she can growl when asked to.

I’ve a Squier Custom Esquire, the only Squier I’ve left as I sold them all simply because they don’t sound as good as MIM/USA and the necks are too thin. I put a Fender neck on the Squier and it sounded better immediately.
Squier fanatics seem to diss Fender MIM/USA but trust me I’ve 7 USA and there’s no way I’d be happy with a Squier in comparison. Even the 8 MIM I also own are still better than the Squiers I used own.

If you have a screw glued in: get your hottest soldering stick and heat the screw (use fresh solder on the tip to help with heat transfer). Heat then screw for a full minute, and then quickly grip it with a locking plier and rotate it out. The heat releases every glue--even CA/GlooBoost.

If I disliked a guitar that much to replace everything, I'd just resell it as is. It's worth more as a original Squier than it is modded. To remove the split coil humbucker to go with a single coil in the neck is a waste of a push-pull pot. This guitar was intended to be what it was & as long as it played as it was intended out of the box, there's just no reason to mod it.

I don't like what the CS does, a clean line and then no finish. If you want to use tape, do what Dave does, go all the way.

I haven't had any switch fail in 35 years of electric guitar playing, but I have started to put the American switches in because they simply look a lot more trustworthy and are easier to solder. Same for the pots - the bigger pots have more contact surface and sturdier wipers. The problem is that the actual routing is too small on some Asian guitars.

I once bought a tele from a pawn shop here in the states. A Squier Mexico made. It was a red metallic colour, maple neck, cruddy open-side bridge... but the pickups and electic parts all worked great.
The really strange thing about this guitar though, was the paint.
It got chipped eventually, and underneath that red was the same shade of blue as guitar in this video. I have owned lots of Squiers and never have i seen an overspray on one! Only on U.S. made Fenders have i seen that. And worse yet, was that i liked that blue a lot!
I thought about removing the red paint... but that wouid not have been good.
Ended up painting it an antique white, or butter yellow shade i always dug on tele's. It was ballin'!🎉
Then someone else needed the guitar more than me and took it.
It played so sweet and equal to a U.S. or Japanese made piece.
I have two distinct preferences for any tele, made anywhere~ it has to be a 1- 3/4" full size body, and have a solid maple neck {no cap}.
Am digging watching this guitar come to life.

You re the guy for this work Dave, I hope Fender doesn't get too upset about you putting $400 worth of parts on a $300 imported guitar to bring it up to the same standard as the ones they sell for $1000+.
Those clips on that meter are great or some types of jobs but you really need a separate meter fitted with spiky probes for those jobs where you re bending your little cordoozle ! Those meters are cheap enough and it's always nice to have the right tool for the job, the only thing I will add is the leads are probably more expensive than the meter but I have a feeling you may have a spare set anyway.

Hi. Which part of China/Philippines/Indonesia were the USA replacement parts made in? I'm all for swapping gear out and doing fun stuff on a guitar, but I generally only change stuff that either is no longer fit for purpose or because I found something that I think suits my sound more. Couldn't give a monkey's really about where it comes from. Squire tele's from Indo are generally a pretty good, playable guitar, otherwise it wouldn't say Squire on top and a load of Fender affiliation underneath, especially when you consider what you get for the price. I usually spend more time on the fret ends and flatting the gloss than worrying about some of the parts. Nice looking guitar you have there.

I've done that to several "budget" guitars I purchased from Amazon. They're all made on CNC machines now (still out of wood) and they put on crap parts because it keeps the "out the door" cost down and they know people are going to swap shit out anyway.
The basic builds and finishes on these guitars are actually quite nice. Why do this with a more expensive "legacy brand" instrument is a waste of money.

Someone could have bought the guitar for the finish, including the matching headstock, and figured everything else would swap. A lot of us know enough about what we want that we more shop for mod hosts than instruments to use as sold because we lack the ability to build or finish a guitar ourselves. In my case, I have often had to resort to Warmoth partsocaster projects because I could not even find suitable mod hosts: my spastic cerebral palsy is such that I have many more requirements than preferences.
