I love the ABC concept. It reminds me of the thought by Victor Frankl which basically says there is between the stimulus and the response a space, a space, a pause where your power of choice resides, where your agency is. The idea of becoming less reactive and having a response to a stimulus which is more in touch with one's beliefs and -choosing-a response in your best interest. I will now think of it as ABC. Thanks David.
Thanks David & Alex, another fantastic eye opening, life changing video, thank you so much for all your videos, they are slowly and surely and wonderfully changing my life, wish I had got onto your channel years ago, but better late then never 🙏 🇦🇺🇦🇺

This was by far the best one of your videos for me at this moment. Had some deeper aha moments. I am slowly coming out of the delusion that my emotions are created by others. Intellectually I do agree. My inner child has not yet agreed. As you say his entire story would crumble and that terrifies him. Too many people would be off the hook and he doesn't want that. Not only does my inner child desire a retribution for his pain but he equally demands the world be both fair and extra special sensitive to his hurts and fears. We talk my inner child and I and I listen and sometimes cry for the pain he feels I also show up with fresh and new perspectives. I let him know the world isn't fair for him. It's fair in it's way but not for him alone and remind him gently of the times when he was unfair to others and himself. I let him know that the energy he holds for revenge would be better suited living his life , standing up for his needs and taking chances. Thank you David and Alex it's been a beautiful journey this year. Lots of pain as we unwind all this distorted thinking and tears. I just wanted you both to know you have been a very important piece to recovering from a hopeless state of mind while believing with out question all my inner childs beliefs created long before he had perspective or any real authority or personal power. Almost all my beliefs where created at a time of dependency and revolve around survival and never feeling those feelings he disliked so much in his formative years.
Thank you for your well thought out comment. I related a lot. As much as it wasn't fair, and it sucks that the perpetrators deny it, and almost always surely will.... in the end I have to choose: The story vs freedom from prison. The story is the prison! There is no such thing as being free and simultaneously emotionally invested in the story. Doesn't exist. I know I am free when I don't care about the story.
My inner child has a hard time understanding, that he creates his emotions. To my adult self it is very easy to understand. How can we explain it so that he understands?
It has taken me many, many videos to finally begin to understand that I am in control of my emotions. It is very difficult to understand and truly grasp. Emotions seem like an appendage, I have never questioned its presence or even realized that I could...
Well, for heavens sake, for the first time almost ever I now understand the "distinction" between being sensitive and being emotional. Thank you David and Alex for verbally illustrating this.
when I heard this I was like omg this is me.😢 so many failed relationships I've had in 50yrs I know I was playing the victim ii feel im learning to be free for the first time.

Hi @Lenneke8422, Thank you for your kind words and enthusiasm! I'm delighted to hear that the teachings resonate with you and bring clarity to your spiritual journey. Kind Regards, David
Love this teaching. I have always been an emotionally reactive person, and although I understand I am responsible for creating my emotions and the beliefs I have held (not good enough), and where these beliefs have come from, I still struggle with techniques to stop myself reacting !
This is a somewhat different road of healing from childhood trauma. I thought they were incompatible, but now I believe it's a wider perspective that broadens my understanding. Emotional Literacy is all over the place. Emotional Literacy pertains to the past, while this video is about the present & future. I will practice both and determine the values of each Another skill.
I used to hate my husband for being "so" logical when it comes to dealing with me. I wanted him to be emotional and accused him of not really loving me as he doesn't understand my emotions. It took me 6yrs to finally understand where he is coming from. I now can testify that being able to control your emotions makes a lot of difference. I always thought, I am entitled to show my emotions, regardless of how messy it could be and that it needs to be accepted just the way it is. I am so thankful for my husband and him not giving up on me. He showed me that the glass is not half empty, it is half full. Just the changes of words and perspectives help a lot.

Thank you for sharing. I had exact the same situation; my partner is „too logical“ and not emotional, so I thought he didn’t love me, because I didn’t feel understood. The Wu Wei Wisdom teachings have helped me to understand that it’s me who was putting responsibility on him, me wanting him to react to my emotions instead of taking the responsibility and control my emotions. However, I often still find myself slip back to the situation of being the victim of my emotions where I am not able to get out. In those moments I feel so overwhelmed that I start to play Wu Wei Wisdom videos to remember the teachings and to calm down. I just hope that one day I’m able to control my emotions…
I like the ABC concept. I have dealt with situations with my sensitivity as opposed to just reacting emotionally. I found this technique very effective and meaningful. Thanks for your insight as always!.
Thank you for the lesson. Daniel Golemen writes about the hyper-adrenalized amygdala caused by repeated trauma (especially in childhood). The amygdala subsequently overrides the ability to reason as it prepares the mind and body to fight or flee. Do you subscribe to his thoughts on this? I guess if traumatic experience can cause this physiological changes, the converse is also true. However, it must be more challenging heal and see things for what they are when the amygdala is in the state. What do you think? Thank you.
Yay! I love your directness. It is a absolutely necessary at times….especially if the other person who is upset, sad, whatever may be manipulative. The receiver of the sad person can be sensitive to that, and thus being direct without reacting. I’ve worked, seen, interacted with manipulative people and my sensitive antenna goes up! I’m getting better at being direct in a logical manner without being emotionally reactive. Great 👍 video!
I'm finding difficulties with cptsd, and have a constant angry resting face, which drives people away. Sometimes I find I look like David, always an uncomfortable angry looking face and constant mild grimacing with the crinkle at my forehead.
This is what I experience in my family. Then they push the person away and it's that they don't look at themselves and the patterns. I was very lonely and want to change this by relating well to others. Do you have any links to places you recommend where I can get teaching from people like yourselves.

I have a question! Lately I encountered a quote from master Lao Tzu, it said "love is a decision not an emotion" and I am genuinely interested in your thoughts on it. If it is not an actually teaching I apologize beforehand and thank you for reading!
Hello Silvia, I am not aware of the quote you are referring to. My interpretation is: love is a description of an emotional feeling, and we create our emotional feelings. I want to be accountable, and I understand what you are saying, but your favorite word, I do not know how to change it. I don't feel awesome. I want to be someone else: I have been brought up in a very vane environment. I don't know how to feel content or am truly happy with myself . I also judge myself, especially that I have been cheated on. I ruminate on what this person looks like, probably prettier and more well, balance than I. I am in dispare. I would love to talk to you; however, I can not afford it.

I like the teachings, and there is genuine good will in that, but in one belief I have to disagree: everybody, really every human being is responsible for the feelings of others. Cause if we were not, then we were not in relation, and that's not possible. Each people's upbringing implies taking on some of the beliefs AND emotions from the caregivers. We than have the whole life to sort out, what's mine and what's yours 😉 Telling that you can now control all your emotions it's like telling to a small kid you are now able and must live on your own. But then I have to tell you, when the inner child gets it, than game over. Cause it is the inner child getting you awake to the new day and all the challenges and joy that comes with it.
People go into law and politics because they believe in some objective fairness in the universe. Maybe the emotions are created, but fairness is still a real thing so long as there is objective morality.
