I'm tethering via a USB cable and nevertheless see a message that says something like: Do you want other computers on your network to see your connection? Now I'm not sure if I understand what "my network" is and I don't see why other computers would be on it. I'm guessing that I could have a local network with my computer on it, but that is not the case and I'm assuming that the computer knows if I have a network. So why the question?

Battery use may depend on the local cellular signal strength, the power output of the laptop's USB ports, and the power requirements of the phone. For example, if you have a weak local cell signal, your phone may need to use more power to boost the antenna output which could require more power (from the battery) than the USB power might provide.

Why does my daughters have to turn on their Bluetooth when they're using their hotspot? For some reason their hotspot won't work unless the Bluetooth is on too it prompts them to turn it on for some reason

Are you able to see any nearby networks? It's possible the wireless adapter on the laptop may have accidentally been disabled, especially if there's a wireless button on or near the keyboard. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your phone. You may need to contact your phone carrier to confirm that tethering is included with your service.

Yes, if the WiFi is public and still fast and your worried about security use a vpn on whatever device your using.
Maybe have better Internet service... 5 is the fastest right now....
