UBOAT
UBOAT is a simulator of a submarine from WWII era, yet different than all you have seen so far. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is the life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.
In UBOAT you control the crew in order to control the boat. You look after their physical and mental health because if the sailors are hungry, tired and their spirit is low, there’s no chance of winning even a skirmish.
Survival
The extensive damage system is a foundation of the game's survival elements. Unprecedented situations are bound to happen as the effect of received damage, testing the player's creativity and ability to stay calm. You can try to save the whole crew or leave someone behind, to save the others.
While your ship travels through the open seas, you will often find yourself being on your own. Use your management skills to spend resources taken on the trip optimally and in special cases try to recover them on the sea, by asking your allies for the help... or by looting wreckages of enemy ships.
Disable unnecessary devices, to keep your accumulators running for longer.
Tell your crew to stay in their bunks to preserve oxygen.
If the crew's morale is low - play with them a session of Skat or play music from nearby radio stations, to fortify their hearts.
Kriegsmarine career
During the playthrough, you will receive assignments from the Kriegsmarine headquarters. They are never linear and you may receive additional orders during them or face unexpected problems.
Brave completion of assignments from the headquarters is rewarded with an additional budget for the unit under your command and with acceptance of your growing reputation as an u-boat's skipper. You will need that, to upgrade your ship and keep up with enemy's technological advances.
Upgrade your boat for the rewarded funds.
Receive additional permissions for the reputation points.
Buy new equipment - new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers and much more.
Send your officers on special tasks in the headquarters to, among other things, speed up research of new technologies.
Accurate simulation
Game's simulation elements are very realistic, but that never comes at a cost of gameplay quality. Despite extensive simulation elements, UBOAT can be played like a regular game and complex matters can be learned later to become a better skipper for the commanded unit.
Even small things like the influence of ballast in each compartment on the ship's trim (tilt) or Earth's curvature are faithfully reproduced in the game.
Perfection can be achieved in many ways. Prove your management skills and swiftly assign work to your officers to speed things up. If, on the other hand, you think that if something needs to be done, it's better to do that on your own - sit behind the periscope, hydrophone or 88 mm deck gun and take matters in your own hands!
If you get spotted by aircraft, there is only ONE course of action, CRASH DIVE, go as deep as you can as fast as you can.
There is a reason planes where used for submarine hunting, they can see quite a bit under the surface from up above, so even if you go periscope depth, all that does is make you slow....
That's exactly why they keep kicking your ass with depthcharges...you don't make it very hard for them.

Let the torpedo officer get extra crew to help him load it
You have to do what is called "crossing the T" in naval speak. It means to attack the ship at a 90 degree angle. It was used to provide smaller profile to enemy ships and allow them to only use their forward cannons. In a sub it's used to keep torpedoes from glancing off our the surface of the enemy and to allow for a greater margin of error. Without this, you will miss alot.

After hearing the speech. "Nope nope nope!"
I could easily be wrong on this... but i thought red was for running at night since it's much harder to see red than white. Blue is supposed to be the light that is ran while the sub is underwater as blue has a weird affect on how much oxygen a person uses. Sounds crazy, but totally legit.

When loading torps, you can add crew to the person loading them and they will load faster. When you read the 1/3 at the start, that meant 1 crew of 3.
Taff in Exile I just started the video xD The Radio officer can still heal, if you manually give him the task. The assignment of roles changes the priority of the different tasks the officers can do. For example take your 2 engineers. 1st one is mechanic, which priority is repairs -> torpedos -> salvage -> engines, while the other is chief engineer and his priority is repairs -> engines ->salvage -> etc.(this is only example, I am not sure if this is the exact order the whole way).
While waiting for the initial torpedo loading, set the other officers to rest, if you don`t have task for them as their stamina will still drain. You can keep the radio officer for the initial message decoding and also set the 2nd engineer to salvage(but I would not recommend that, instead you can wait for your mechanic to finish with the torps and set him to salvage).
I’ve been watching others play. The white “gear” icon throughout your boat indicates that, that item is off. For example your gyroscope is off, if you have someone turn it on your navigation will be better. If you knew this already then ignore my comment. 😆 and I do like this game even though it’s not technically a simulator it’s still looks fun to play
Another suggestion would be to have 2 sailors helping the engine officer all the time. It saves you fuel/energy(30%) and allows you the highest gear on the sub. If needed you can assign navigator and add 2 more sailors for 50% less fuel/energy consumption, this can help you run away from destroyers while diving.
I tried the English audio myself, not a big fan. German is better by far!
You may decrease misses if you get more crew on targeting, Such as one on attack scope and one on hydro if under water you will have 2 crew to select on targeting, play with it. It will help at speed to get to 100% for sure.

Bad English voices for sure. Prefer German more immersive even if the english was good.
As a German I can say the German audio isn't really that great either.

10:23 When the Radio is out of range. You can add a seaman to help the officer and the range will increase. This is the same with all officers functions.

If you give West some help while he is on the Engines you will get another gear out of the transmission, allowing you to reach speeds of around 21 knots.

I really hope they add different voice recordings for the different telegraph settings. ''Beide maschinen halbe fahrt voraus'' would sound better and more professional.
The red circles warns you about the maximum detection range of the enemy ships, so you should stay out of it or submerge. Also If you are underwater, you can assign another Officer to the hydrophone (listening room) to speed up the calculations or hear ships if they are far way.
Does anyone have a bug in this game where your crew would be stuck outside the ship?
oh yes, I always have a crew member smoking on the conning tower, even submerged

Oh no I mean like your captain or officer who would get stuck outside the ship where they're not even touching the deck and you cannot get them back in.
But I know about the crew going out for a smoke and thank you for telling me that 😃
Empire explorer is like a class of ship, basically.
Remember to get extra crew to help. If they are helping in the engine you can sail faster and the radio operator can hear better. Always use extra crew if possible

It would sound better if they spoke with a stiff upper lip type British posh officer accent. I say what!
It's a no on the British accents lol. It's a German U-Boat and I think adding British accents is just daft.

That English voice pack is a special kind of pain.
I like it but early access aside it's terribly clunky. Loads more work required.
Perhaps they couldn't afford someone to do a Terry-Thomas voice for the captain: 'You're a shah - an absolute sh-ah-ahhh!' or a Leslie Philips for the officer class: 'Oh! I Say. Left hand down a bit .. down a bit .. Ohh! Nah-stay.' That would sound just a little too realistic, I guess. ;o)

By the way the first aircraft to attack you was a short Sunderland aircraft.
They should get Brian Blessed to do an English voice pack. If nothing else it would be comedic instead of mildly annoying lol. Or maybe an old fashioned 'shiver me timbers' pirate voice pack could be fun. German is better though, and authentic obviously.
Taff use the hydrophone to detect ships faster, the hydrophone got a bigger detection range that normal sight. Just go to periscope depth and have someone in the listening room. In order to calculate a torpedo course you can have 3 officers doing it at the same time which makes it faster. Also just use torpedos to kill freighters you need one per ship so is easier to kill than with the deck gun. Deck guns were mainly used to kill small patrol vessels. And finally if you want to up your game on this game watch MagzTv videos of UBoat.
Early in the war the deck gun was used often to conserve torpedos.
@@sammyboy9876 Yet you were directly exposed of being detected. If i could play this game which i can't right now cause my PC it's busted i would also travel with Deck Awashed all the time no point of having the deck exposed if you are not using the deck gun, nor grabbing loot or sending divers to a certain underwater wreck. Also i believe with Deck Awashed depth level you can use the hydrophone as well and still keep the captain at the tower looking for enemies with his binoculars, also you represent a smaller target for enemy airplanes. But just for being on the safe side i'd always keep a gunner along side the captain.
How can you place a static cam like that? I can only orbit, section, or ffp view?
Well that last audio sentence said exactly what this english language pack is: It's a miss.

Until they add different ship names, multiple ships will have the same name, best just to make sure you head for the objective first
Hi Taff, the english voices are rubbish, you would think if they were going to do this they might of got a german that speaks english, at least the accent would have been there !!!
Always be sure to assign crew to officers by order of priority but dont overwork the mates or youll get low morale or whatever they call it lol the torpedo and engineer officers i have always have 2 mates assigned to them. Unless they are resting or on an off shift...i think its also good to have 2 "leader" officers, including the cap. So you can rotate them between mapping and spotting...between rest periods lol and be sure to release any mates from an officers assignment if that officer is resting....i find that they usually do some spotting on their own at least if you are surfaced.
Honestly, all they needed to do was do English but keeping the accent and ton. I think the Silent Hunter games did something along that line.
Taff , the Swedish ship (54.30?) Could it be be that you are supposed to board it first , investigate it's cargo & papers & then scuttle it ?? Just a thought .

Have you discovered the fast travel nodes yet? Also you can use the 30cal flak gun to sink transports when you run out of 88 ammo.

It jumps out of the buy screen because you are getting messages like a torp is loaded.
yeah have to say no on the English accent pack , if it was just an English pack with German accents it would be an OK/possible yes, but English accents is just a nope.
Don't forget to assign men with your officers so they get the work done faster ;)
The ammunition store for the u-boat in this game is stupidly small. And why does the OFFICER carry the ammo? EDIT 26:25 I stand corrected.

You just explained why you have a smaller field of view. You sit lower to sea level, ships at that time sat a lot higher than a U-Boat.

so.... Im pretty sure the reason your manual torpedo attempts failed is twofold:
1. you didn't correctly identify the ship (you said it was an Empire Tower when it was an Empire Explorer), making all future math wrong, although I assume by not much which is why they were still relatively close shots2. I'm pretty sure distance is supposed to be calculated at the very least AFTER you're done with speed calc since the distance has a chance of changing a bit while waiting for the 20-60 seconds it can take to wait after the ship to fully pass your periscope
I'm thinking you need to do the AOB calculation before the speed calculation because anything other than 90° AOB will change the perceived length of the ship.
Wolfpack does this so much better.
There's no aim down sight for the deck gun? In SH5 we would adjust the distance according to the distance from the stadimeter. This is just plain arcadey.

I think they should remove all the money in the game and only use XP and weight of items. If you want 100 torps, well you got no food and your weighing alot more. You are at war and going on a mission, I don't see how anyone would come and charge you extra for 4 torps or a crate of bananas
think of it as the quartermaster has to ration supplies. You arent the only sup captain that needs torps. the money isnt really money its renown. the better you do the more renown you get and the more priority you get on supplies.
I run a damn tight ship. Annnd if a convoy has no armament i think its best to just come up close and deck gun them into oblivion. And i havent gotten this far but if the game is super accurate then never....ever....EVER surface unless you HAVE TO once you hit May of 1943 lol

@@aedryk what they call "black May" of 1943 was when the allies really started pushing and going on the offensive against the U-Boat fleet...the rates of allied ship losses significantly decreased and the loss of U-Boats increased quite drastically. I forget the date but the allies, thanks to England, had finally cracked the German code system they used for daily orders. the "Enigma Code" was used by the Germans for everything, and it was almost impossible to break. The allies, after breaking said code, knew where almost the entire German navy was every day...but they couldnt let the Germans know the code had been broken. So they selectively took out any major threats that could hinder the allies in a significant way, whilst trying to keep it seemingly random. The Americans started fitting more ships with sonar and radar, and Brittian followed suit. There were new weapons specifically created to destroy u-boats that were deployed en mass, and the U-boats were hunted almost to extermination within a year or so i believe. Out of over 800 subs, somewhere over 750 were destroyed lol. It was a very very bad time to be on a sub. 2 of the top 3 U-Boat captain "aces" were also killed. One gung-ho American Captain even captured a sub....but the brass flipped out because if the Germans found out, they would know we broke the Enigma code. Only DEEP state officials and agencies that "dont exsist" within the allies knew about the code plan. Its crazy, you should just look up "Black May" and dig around. Awesome forgotten history there. Theres also a movie with Benedict Cumberbatch about the actual breaking of the Enigma code. I forget the name but that story in itself is awesome.

Its not really buying, its your "budget". Not every single Uboat, armor/infantry unit, air wing gets to have every single piece of equipment they want to operate. Thats just not possible in any military with resources and supply limits. There's hundreds of other Uboats aside from the Player's, thousands of aircraft, and several million troops, and thousands of tanks in the German Army at that time roughly. There's a LOT more than the Player's little Uboat that the nation's supplies are going to.
IRL and in games like world of warship with realistic physics and such a torpedo chasing a target will almost never be guaranteed to hit a target but a torpedo going head on5o the target ( from the front) it had a far better chance also I like knowing what’s being said but I hate the British voice acting

Actually, I'd prefer English spoken with a German accent, like the stock version of SH5.
At least get some decent actors to do the recordings. That will make it all so much more immersive when there necessity to what they're saying. Now both German and English are so incredibly bland.
Definitely prefer silent hunter 5 nothing against you Taff at all but find this fairly monotonous sure it a good game in it's own way but not for me. 😔
SH is so bugged it cant even be played if you dont use like 100 mods on it and even then you cant fix one of the big ones

I would like the English language if it was more professional. Ahead full, Flank, slow etc. instead of "faster, slower". that is comical.
