  • COIN - Community-Oriented Integration Network - holds monthly meetings that discuss how to achieve Community-Oriented Integrated Practice - a way of being that stimulates local collaborations for health and care.
In May 2024, we continued the discussion on how to practically achieve Community-Oriented Integrated Practice. Paul Thomas did highlight the potential of Carers (10% of the UK population are Carers) to provide some of the ‘glue’ that society needs to build healthy, compassionate communities. Most Carers are unpaid, unprepared, unsupported and under-valued. They experience similar difficulties and opportunities whether caring for someone with a long-term condition or with a terminal condition. Primary Care Networks could develop ‘Anchor-Organisations’ that help various local groups to thrive, including support for Carers that: 1) Saves NHS resources, 2) Improves dying experiences, 3) Prevents Carer burnout, 4) Improves integration of health and social care, and 5) Develops communities for health.
