    Hi, could you please tell me where is the option you talked about, to allow the clipping to be viewed in viewport? I can't find it in the forest object settings. It does render correctly, but I can't see the effect in the viewport. Thank you!

      However, previews can be enabled by holding down the left CTRL key and clicking on the Edge radio button. (Points-Cloud Viewport mode only)

    its not work out in 3D max + vary , why's that? and one more thing when created the scene with forest pack and re open the scene forest pack models are not in the scene. its disappear. only shapes are there. why its like that? expecting a solution.

      Hi Wathsala, thanks for the question. Usually the disappearing trees thing is a licensing issue. Please contact us at helpdesk@itoosoft.com and include the affected file. We can take a look at it for you and work out what's going on. Thanks!

    Hi! Is there still no way to use edge mode in Arnold? I tried looking around but couldn't find any working solutions (except for the inverse density method which still leaves me with thousands of extra items) unfortunately. I'm not sure if there's a problem on my end, or there's just no other solution yet. Since Arnold now comes natively with 3ds max, I'd hoped this would have been adressed.

    • @itoosoft

      Edge mode should be working in Arnold, but you will need to use legacy shaders and add a Forest Edge map to the Opacity map slot of all the object's materials.
      Please drop us an email to helpdesk@itoosoft.com if you need more info. Thanks!

      @@itoosoft Thanks to your reply, I knew to keep looking, and managed to find the solution. Turns out, edge maps and edge mode only work when using either production or iterative rendering modes, and not in active shade mode (which I was previously using to see if the changes applied or not). This might very well just be my own ignorance, but I couldn't find any information about this particular nuance in your documentation. It might help others in the future if you emphasized the importance of using production/iterative rendering when using edge mode in Arnold. Thank you very much once again! Have a nice day!

    It's October of 2024, installed the new Forrest Pack update (9.1.1) and I still can't get this to work right. It's baffling that something as simple as this just doesn't work well at all. I have a simple extruded spline for a sidewalk, a simple extruded spline for mulch and the edge mode just does not work. Even when i add a spline in the area section to be used as an exclusion, there is still over spill of the forrest objects.

      Hi, thanks for getting in touch. There are a few reasons that might occur. Sometimes if random translation values are very high, then plants can be moved into the exclusions zone, or sometimes if you're using Corona or renderers other than V-Ray the ForestEdge maps have not been added to the materials . Another issue can be the nature of the plant model, it doesn't slice the model, but removes entire elements based of whether their lowest vertex is inside or outside the area. The best thing to do if you encounter this issue is contact support so that we can diagnose the scene. It might be a simple fix, or it might be something we need to consider changing on our side in which case the feedback is really helpful. You can drop us a message here: www.itoosoft.com/contact

      I have the same issue here, since i updated to the new Forest version looks like the forest edge stop to work. Before was all good

    • @itoosoft
      @itoosoft  3 месяца назад

      @@renejunior11 Can you contact us at support? It seems to work fine here, but it could be some combination in your scene that we haven't tested. Are you using V-ray Proxies? If so they need to be in mesh mode for the clipping to work correctly.

      Hi! You can just enable Edge mode from the Areas rollout once you've imported the Mulch preset.
      Thanks.

    this tutorial needs to mention that edge mode only functions on an area defined by a closed spline. not just a surface area alone. as to why we still have to create splines to use edge mode i don't know. but can the devs please focus on this?

    • @itoosoft
      @itoosoft  2 года назад

      It should work fine with surfaces on without using splines (eg i.imgur.com/gfNmenL.jpg)
      The only limitation I'm aware of at present is when limiting to a part of a surface using material IDs.
      Please drop us an email if that's not the case. Thanks!

      @@johnline Ah, yes. That won't work because it only clips around an open edge. In that case you would need a spline indeed.

  • @P07AT0
    @P07AT0 2 года назад +2

    This doesn't work 80% of the times honestly. Little pieces of grass and pebble still stick out, requiring you to draw more splines in order to exclude a bit of the edge. It does help a bit in some cases.

    • @itoosoft
      @itoosoft  2 года назад

      It rather depends on the structure of the source objects. It's based on mesh elements rather than a simple slice. It looks for the lowest vertex of each element and if it falls outside of the area, the whole element is removed. IN some cases this can result in parts of a model extending beyond the boundary which is sometimes good, sometimes bad. For example, grass blades that arc over the boundary is how you would expect them to look in reality (rather than a hard cut), but a branch stripped of its leaves is not so desirable. In some cases, you may find the Size mode is more suitable.

      Could it be you are using Corona? If so you'll need to apply a Forest Edge map to the material's Opacity Color map slot. This can be done automatically using the Material Optimiser tool found in the materials rollout. You can read more about it here: docs.itoosoft.com/forestpack/forest-edge-map
