When Alex humiliated Roger at the Country Club that scene was fire! Emmy gold, I wish Beverlee submitted her work from that year, she would've definitely been nominated and even won.

I once wrote Beverlee McKinsey a fan letter and it turned out to be during her last year on Guiding Light. I was a huge fan of her work on Another World, Texas, and Guiding Light. It was a lengthy letter and I was quite surprised one day when I got a response...............not that it would have been above her to respond or anything............I would just not have expected a response from any actor or actress to a fan letter. I remember that she wrote to me: "Wow. What a letter!" She actually told me that if I was ever in NY (I live in Miami) to stop by the studio. Well, I was in NY about 2 or 3 months later. I stopped by the studio and showed them the letter, but she was not there. Well, they called her and she asked (through them) if I could stop by the studio the next day. And I did just that! I got to watch her film a scene with Tina Sloan and then she was kind enough to sit and let me have my picture taken with her. It was a quick visit, but so very wonderful. She was so kind and generous. We love you, Beverlee McKinsey and we miss you still. God love you!

Nice tribute to Ms McKinsey. I wish that Scott would have talked about *Iris* more. Iris was a spoiled brat who was basically in love with her father Mac and profusely hated her step-mother Rachel. It was really one of the best storylines/triangles in soap history

My grandmother who started listening to GL on radio, was a fan of Another World and ATWT. Through her, I learned of the genius of Beverlee as Iris on AW. When Beverlee joined GL we were both over the moon. Grandma was crushed when she left GL, she thought Beverlee had raised the level of acting on the show.

@@joebarzo9935 Thank you :) Going off what I remember when I read "Llanview in the Afternoon", the testimony of actors like Lee Patterson, or Marilyn Chris, Margaret Klenck, actors who worked the serials in the late 60s, and the entirety of the 70s, impressed upon me that that was the time to be on a soap because as an actor, you could quick do your day(time) job and then jet over to Broadway or off Broadway and perform at night. That skillset, in my opinion, that is what made the dramas poignant before it became all about primtime production values highlighting "rape-mances", and "ice princesses". Also I believe during Harding Lemay's tenure at "Another World" he, or Paul Rauch were insistent to cast stage veterans in their show, and that in itself, along with good writing is what made "Another World" must see television".

If you have the chance to read her interview on line (conducted by Michael Logan)...please do so. She comes across so incredibly humble as well - a rare quality in one so admired and adored in every single performance in which she ever appeared. Still she comes across somewhat unaware of her immense talent and huge popularity. Repeatedly Mr. Logan asks if she is aware what a big deal her leaving GL was and she says she knows of 10 actresses who could take over and in a year she herself would be forgotten in the role.
Decades later here we are.... and she most assuredly is NOT FORGOTTEN. What a joy this tribute was....

The "panty raid" anecdote is HYSTERICAL. It's nice to hear people can have a sense of humor, because nowadays, you wouldn't dare get away it. What was it, the other night, Bill Maher was relaying a recent story that a guy got on an elevator with a woman co-worker, she asked him what floor and he jokingly said "women's lingerie". A day later, he had a formal complaint. I can't even anymore.

Alan, may I make a couple of suggestions for future GL guests? I've been watching classic late '70s episodes lately and there are so many wonderful actors/characters from the Dobson era that I'm sure would love to come on and talk about their time with the show. It was probably my favorite era say between 1978 and when Doug Maryland took over in the early '80s. Sadly a lot of those that were on then are no longer with us. Also are you at all actively trying to get Lisa Brown and John Wesley Shipp? That would be an amazing interview and reunion between these two. ❤️❤️

Losing Beverlee in 1992 was yet another nail in the G/L coffin. While Marj did an incredible job in her portrayal of Alex, the show definitely lost much of its luster with the loss of Beverlee (along with Kimberley Simms departing during summer 1992)

Sorry to comment again but what I said was important and to be fair it was not intended to take anything away from carmin duncan as iris or even Chris Bruno.
But to emphazize that it can also come down to the writing and the ep.
But also to say that 2 out of the p and g shows where already showing signs of dumb decisions even leading up to 1992 1993.
But I think with aw it started in 1989.
Guiding light it started in 1991 to an extant atwt was already showing challenges in 1990 too even with the great Doug Marland there still but the difference with Douglas was a lot of that had to do with pregnancies with Susan Marie Snyder Colleen zenk, melenie Smith having a family emergency and needing to leave the show and bieng unable to find a replacement for her right away.
And unlike aw and guiding light 1992 was the year at atwt where Douglas found a new Emily Stewart killed finally the Darryl Crawford storyline finnaly wrapped up the Gavin grueger storyline killed tonio.
And found a new Sean Baxter in Mary Ellen Stewart's husband.
And had Andy kavovit come back for a Christmas tease.
Intending to write him back in during the 1993 year until douglas died.
I am bringing it up because the discussion of the quality of work and dialog came up too.
And today in daytime and I say absolutely right.
So I understand Jill's point of view too. From your interview with her.
It's just not taking it to far.
Like for example when Paul shot his own father in 1989.
Amd we saw James stenbeck not only choking Emily Stewart.
But punching her repeaditely and it looked so real but so good and Andy as Paul yell get away from her and fire that gun.
Or even to discuss bev and her work it also looked real and so good.
With her wanting to get revenge on Roger Thorpe and having his number even before Jill got there.
    And Mindy.
Which by the way started with Mindy going from Rick because I think Micheal I leary was on his way out again as Rick not a chemistry issue as someone tried to say.
But at the same time I just see starting in 1989 and even in 1988 on some ABC soaps the infection of dumb stupid storylines and writing with too much sex stupid drama that just did not make any sense.
Which unfortunately today has continued even on 3 out of the 4 soaps left on television.
And finally I am sick of the crap about budgets and overly worrying about budgets and I am going there from what Jill said when she was at gl.
Because once you start trying to come in under budget then the networks and production companies start talking about actually cutting your budgets and it spreads like a wildfire.
And the look and feel of the show suffers and so does the story.
Which then goes down to the actors feeling overworked and feeling like bev that they are losing the integrity of their work and leave.
And comments like coleen zenk has repeaditely said when discribing Doug Marland with I don't think they would allow that today.
But that's what happens when you go the Jim reilly Jill faren Phelps route Megan McTavish route and even as far as hogan God bless him sheffer did.
So I think another lesson is as we remember bev is don't go there or really think it out because once you go to far it's real hard to take it back and the longer you wait to fix your screw ups the harder it gets.
Like in aws case not recasting Sam fowler with the correct actor in the first place 3 times then just giving up.
Anyway I just think it is important that we come to more of an understanding of these things because when I am looking back at these older episodes I can see it so clearly.
Where it's starting to get bad.

Hey Alan and others sorry to comment again but I just found an interview from either 1981 or 1982.
Where she said many of the same things she said years later to Micheal Logan.
She also told many fascinating stories too.
And talked about leaving Texas because she had a problem with the change in the writers when Gail kobe came in.
She also talked about how in 1978 the higher ups at p and g wanted to replace her with a younger actress and how Paul Rauch and harding Lemay said to those higher ups if she goes we go.
She also told a bunch of great stories and how she fought to get soap actors better working conditions.
And had some revalations about a certain amc actress.
Anyway here is the link and enjoy
Also Alan you may want to do a Texas reunion and maybe another tribute with Jim poyner
Who played Dennis her son on aw
And lisby Lisbon who played Paige Marshall on Texas and maybe Chris goutman again
    Anyway enjoy this interview

    • @gabrielstern4992
      @gabrielstern4992 9 месяцев назад

@@TheLocherRoom please do. Remember I sent you aw folders too awhile back I am digging deep Texas though with Gail kobe coming in I am going to have to do it in small doses. But Alan bev left Texas because of the same reasons she left gl.
Also Alan in the Micheal Logan interview bev did warn Jill several times that she did not like what was going on on the production side several times and said if you don't straighten it out I am out. And Jill or whoever said read your contract.
Not realizing bev knew her contract back and forth and had the 6 month 12 week vacation clause there since 1986.
Which I will jokingly call the Gail kobe clause now I am not saying Jill was bad or Gail kobe was all bad.
But let's see grant Alexander did not like her.
At Texas Patrick mulcahy would switch to guiding light.
Then after Texas got canceled Gail would show up at guiding light and piss Doug Marland off.
      Hint hint.
Me Alan I am more in the Paul Rauch Doug Marland harding Lemay camp.
And the culliton and Nancy and Stephen demorest camp.
Where the focus is on the basics now to be fair to Jill I think she wanted to be more in the Paul Rauch side and camp but do her stubborn streak and lack of experience at the time. She fell more into the mary Ellis bunim Gail kobe camp.
But I don't think she intended to be that way.
It's just a shame she never got the opportunity to have someone like Paul Rauch mentor her.

Alan finally getting around to replying to this one.
So I will start by saying bev deserves to get a posthumios daytime Emmy.
Period and she was not the only one who never got nominated I think Colleen zenk never got one or a Emmy nod.
    Andrea Evans so many.
And I am also going to respond to the comments about 1992 bieng a tough year for guiding light absolutely right but also a tough stupid decision year for another world with the awful decision to kill John aprea as Lucas.
The dumb Sam fowler singer decision. And the Brian Greene mess.
Gl losing bev McKinsey losing Kim simms as Mindy who was a different Mindy to Krista but still great.
And the dumb awful decision to have Ed sleep with Lilian them kill Maureen.
And I will add more 1993 was a continuation and even worse year because now it was not just gl and aw but atwt with Doug Marlands death.
But now I will say this bev had respect for the integrity of her work and Jill should have reduced her work schedule period.
And trust me us fans of her work would have understood the same way we understood John Aniston reducing his workload as Victor karakis before he died.
Or another bev example about Overworking an older actor and that's John Clarke as mickey Horton and Jim reilly at days in 2004 to where he had to retire but then instead of after Jim reilly was gone getting him back as mickey Horton killing mickey which again robbed days fans of enjoying mickey until John Clark's death in 2019.
I am saying this because we will take seeing our old favorites working less as long as we can still enjoy are vets gracing our screens when they can.
Like our Alexandra Spauldings or our lucindas.
Now Alan I am going to respond to you mentioning you never saw carmin play iris.
And while as Chris Bruno told you she was a nice lady unfortunately during carmin duncan run as iris she now sounded British and like Chris Brunos run as Dennis the writing was just bad VS bev McKinseys run as iris or Jim paymers run as Dennis.
And Alan iris was a lot like Alexandra was when bev played her.
And Alan things like lujack and later nick McHenry where based off the story at aw that got Texas started with the revaluation that elliot Carrington was not really Dennis's dad. And Alex wheeler was who iris married.
And writing a great beautiful back story that really explained why iris had behaved so badly.
But now I will say this I think aw when Micheal liabson was still the executive producer missed a huge opportunity to have let carmin duncan go and brought bev back as iris and given her the chance to work with Chris Bruno while he was still playing Dennis.
And I say that because Donna swajeski was already on her way out as headwriter brought harding Lemay back who created iris.
And could have really turned around aw.
And Alan don't feel like you were missing much with Carmen duncan in the role because you weren't as iris.
I think at that time at aw the closest to bevs version of iris was Sandra Fergusons performances as Amanda Cory although they were too lightly written and sloppy at times but like bev had the incredible ability to display extreme warmth and affection with a protective nature but then if you crossed her or hurt her loved ones could be fierce with those slaps and leave you shaking in your boots whether you were male or female.
And boy ohh boy when she was on to you watch out like Roger Thorpe or Kim simms version of Mindy after sleeping with Roger.
Or kinda like the way Sandra as Amanda Cory in 1991 chewed out Dennis with Chris Bruno playing bevs iris's son or how Sandra as Amanda Cory really went after alison hossack Olivia Matthew's with the dumb pregnancy storyline of Olivia lying to Sam with its your baby but wait it was really Dennis baby.
And watching carmin and Dennis acting like with the writing anything like Jim paymer or bev McKinsey.
And that's where if bev returned as iris in 1992.
Even after Olivia left town with David her physical therapist cutting Dennis out of his baby's life.
Hurting Dennis who just wanted his child and to be a father to the baby.
I could just picture bevs iris comforting her son and feeling his pain and anger and then literely tracking down Olivia and literely making Olivia regret she ever left town and denying her son the opportunity to raise his baby maybe a huge scheme and manipulation of the European court system.
Finding Olivia smacking the crap out of her taking the baby from her saying you will never see your son again
And then bringing the baby back to Dennis.
But wait just like Alexandra Spaulding that would not be enough for bevs iris.
And I am mentioning it so Alan you understand that much of how bev McKinseys Alexandra Spaulding was so was her portrayel of iris just 2 different soaps with different charecter names.
And Alan as I have said I think if guiding light could be remixed and fixed with making it look like bev never left using cgi and Ai until bev McKinsey actually died in 2008 with Jill involved fixing her mistakes but others I think would go a long way to making amends to her son and many gl fans vice versa I think it would be great if the same thing was done at aw too fix it where bev came back in 1998 and just played iris up through 2008 so she could be homered properly through both legendary charecters she created and was loved by fans on both shows.
