I live in Kalasin on a farm that is 45 rai, I manage on 20000B a month. my pension is about 80000B a month if you live a normal life here like you live in Europe you don't need a lot of money. When I lived outside, I rented a house for 3500B a month with 3 bedrooms and a large outdoor space 5 minutes from the beach. I have learned that there are 3 different price classes in Thailand
1 Tourist price
2 Tourist with girlfriend
3 Thai who negotiate for you and do not say they are negotiating for a tourist
Thai ladies are mostly attracted to Farlang wallets which is ok if you understand this, she will love you long time as long as you help take care of her family.
Was traditional European life 150 years ago
Farlang men's wallets are not attractive to Farlang women, who have much bigger wallets and don't need men to help take care of the family, which they can do themselves, or anything else, thank you very much. Western women don't date western men because it has no benefits for them.
Of course you can always marry a Thai Woman who has been married 4 times before and she already owns half the village.
Sorry you had a bad experience
@@ThailandRob It's not a bad experience.
The rent from the six tenant farmers saves me spending my pension.
@@marklatimer7333 oh I didn’t read it right the first time
Really LOL.
I can fully support your reasoning about retirement in Thailand.
I have been visiting Thailand regularly since 1993 and have been to pretty much all the major provinces. Just not yet in Isaan.
My wife comes from southern Thailand, but I like being in Bangkok. However, not in the center but in the suburbs.
I'm not someone who likes parties, I like peace and quiet. A rental house in a suburb for around 8,000 baht per month is good enough for me.
My intention is to take my pension in Thailand and initially use a rental house.
I find your vlogs fun and sometimes informative.
I have been following you for many years
keep it up.
btw I'm currently 62
Good advice. Married 17 years to incredible Thai girl (also a US citizen). We’ve explored all the towns you mentioned but her family lives in Bangkok. So we have a condo in Bangkok next to fashion Island mall complex. Long term lease 9,000 baht a month ($258 USD) we’re happy. Most grateful for your many years of videos…👍
Thank you very much!
Ive holiday in Thailand 🇹🇭 since 2004 before retiring here in 2017! I visited several different places in Thailand during that time before I retired here.
my family live in nakhon ratchasima and i love it there but the last 20 years i have been all over thailand and i think i have seen 10% now....
July this year my retirement window opens see u soon in SE Asia !
I agree with you 100%. My only comment is that it's difficult to live in a village, especially if you don't speak Thai.
I agree.
Rob, spot on advice. I lived 2 years in Bangkok amd it was great but so easy to spend money. Ive now lived 4 years in Isaan and its a worldcof difference but i have money to travel and still wake up every morning being glad i retired in Thailand and not the UK.
I agree!
That's what I wanted to here. My wife is Thai but we're both saving up to come home to Isaan. Not too far from hospital or university, family has a house and a small farm which is sadly neglected, but just you wait, when I get there that's my new job😁
New subscriber. I will move there in 3 months or so. Good vibes on the content. Targeting Jomtien/Bang Saray for the first year or so. Close to fun when wanted, but not immersed 24/7. Then I will adjust based on health and wealth. Looking forward to checking out more of your content.
Welcome!
Nice to see you making videos more often again.
I am a new subscriber from the USA and I’m enjoying your Thailand videos. Will be visiting Thailand soon and hoping to be in contact with you for some recommendations.
Thank you for your advice on prescription medicine. Arrived yesterday with a flu. The pharmacist subscribed a medicine that's already starting to work . Thank you
Dr. Rob 5555.
I spent over 9 months in Thailand. The visa runs, immigration office visits for extensions coupled with the pure frustration of trying to figure out the best way to stay that didn't cost a small furtune finally broke my spirit, Thailand is lovely but guess what, so is Cambodia
I want to go there one day.
Morning Rob
Always good advice!
Enjoy your day
Thank you
Thanks for your vids Rob.
Been living vicariously through you for about a decade too.
Will love to move to Phuket one day and soon.
See you later Rob.
sounds like good advice to me! I will be going the "Rob route" and arriving in Thailand having not ever been there. I moved across the US blindly once and loved it, so moving to the other side of the planet should be ok, right? What could go wrong:)
It changes weekly... At first I was sure I needed to rent a condo in BK near the BTS so I could attend a language school with good repute. Then I was sure it would be Hua Hin. Lately its a shotgun shack on the Andaman Sea. You've shared the very sensible idea of maybe "slow travel" and having a look around. The only thing I know is that Pattaya is not for me. I really just want to make a cup of coffee and walk out onto a quiet beach.
Jomtien beach and other beaches below it look pretty good. I think they are in the middle between Pattaya and Phuket. Also, in about 3 years when the high speed train and later the new international airport is completed that area might be a good place to settle down.
Good to know!
If you like thousands of Russians..
Great video Rob!!!!!!
You didn't mention that Foreigners are not allowed to buy land in Thailand.
Some are. It's complicated. That's why I didn't talk about it.
Anyone explain to me why you would want to buy land.
When the risk is so great in regards to losing it
I agree. I don't know why people buy ..... but to each their own I guess. I guess many people have different plans.
@@sproket168 I'm not sure why you would lose it? - Thai Citizens buy and sell land all the time and the laws surrounding Land registry and ownership are very secure.
The Land Registry Office may be a little slow sometimes but no worst than many 'western' countries.
The government restrict ownership of Land to Thai Citizens, as a non-citizen you can buy property on a lease hold arrangement i.e. Condominiums etc. but you don't own the land it stands upon.
Some people try to get around this Law by setting up a Thai Company which requires several Thai Citizens as Directors, the Company then owns the Land with the foreigner holding the controlling interest in the Company, however this seems like a loophole that could be closed by Thai Legalisation at any time.
@ThailandRob
It makes absolutely no sense.
If you buy, they don't need you anymore.
They have your money, and you will eventually become a problem for them.
If you lease a property, whether it be a house or a farm, YOU become the item of value.
You're required to make payment every month.
So they have a vested interest in keeping you alive.
Believe me, this is how it works.
I chose Korat because our Thai family is only 115km from us and like you say, less expensive. We bought a brand new house for less than 100k Canadian $. I am coming back in a couple of days. Cheers 🎉
That is awesome!
I think it is important to live somewhere with an expat community. Unless you master the Thai language, you might feel a little lost sometimes. Need to socialize in your native language. My wife is Thai and we live in USA. Retire to Thailand in 5 years. Still scoping out locations.
Great video, Rob! One thing I wanted to point out, and I usually don't care about this sort of thing is, your camera's auto-focus (I'm assuming) was going from your face to your hands everytime you were hand gesturing and the focus was going crazy during the entire video. Might want to fix that. Peace!
Yes, I forget to set that.
Thanks For Creating And Sharing
Thanks to you
Excellent video!
For real? My first trip outside the states was Bangkok about 4 months ago. Packed a backpack and bought a plane ticket. Landed and didn’t have a single baht converted or even a hotel room booked. Ended up staying 29 days and it was the most fun I’ve had in the last 10 years! Ended up all the way down in Phuket somehow with a beautiful 24 year old woman I met on tinder, learned how to ride a motorbike Thai style (sidewalks and all yep 😂) and literally can not wait to get back to that side of the earth in July when I plan to go ahead
I have been to Thailand at least 12 times in 2024 im moving to Hua Hin getting a 200 dollar row house and a scooter will be traveling to see exactly where i want to live I lived in Isaan for 2 months about 23 miles from Sakon Hwy 22 and 2049 its like going back 50 years in time
I agree.
Thumbs up 👍 Rob….that was damn good 😎
Great advice

Hello ROB !!! Yep enjoy your Beer, just finished my coffee.
I would love to return to Thailand, yet world events are keeping me here in the US. ( Love Thai Women 👍🇺🇸👍)
I understand
Good info bud.keep it rollin
Thanks, will do!
retirement in vietnam so much more difficult visa wise. totally see how your suggestions makes sense, the burning off fields rules out some areas and even being there for that season.
You can leave during the smoke season. Go to Malaysia for 3 months without a visa. Cheap and great food.
Just read today about one MP (Pita?) talk about how mush trash Phuket will get soon ...so the "pearl of the Andaman" can become more smelly than you think (my pov). over-development, more tourist, water-management...guess what, the under carpet main topics are oversight. .... that's why, yes, wait and see before buying and choosing Phuket as your home-sweet-home location. The advice is as good for other location in other provinces..but...you can observe where the building companies are working mostly....and avoid clearly these places
Thank you for your positive insight 🙏 👍 😊
As a 73 year old with a Boston Scientific pacemaker, I don't believe that I need to travel all over Thailand.
I have lived in Bangkok for 3 months during 2019.
i am not comfortable being much more from a hospital or doctor who can monitor my pacemaker. Boston Scientific's website only lists 3 Bangkok hospitals where my pacemaker can be cared for. A pacemaker has to be completely changed out when the battery is low. Annother concern that I have is air pollution. That leads me to consider Bangkok and south of Bangkok. And to consider living in Kuala Lumpur during the high pollution times.
For sure decide where you want to live before dating (for a relationship).
Some times it's hard for people to do. Many people love to go to their girlfriend's home.
@@ThailandRob I didn't do it and now I'm stuck in Bangkok with my wonderful girlfriend. 🤣
Trust me Bangkok is great as you know but empties your wallet regularly. Move away asap and just visit the city if you can
Rob I have a home I refused to get a condo or rent it’s not a good financial move if you don’t have a home The home is in my wife’s name which is fine with me . The value of this home value has already gone up I have only been here one year I live in siracha
4:09 Most American women will only go out with 666 guys. Meaning 6 feet tall, 6 pack abs, and 6 figure salary.
but will the 666 go out with the 555s
I’ve been to Thailand, five times over the last seven years I always go to pattaya and I love the area I’ve been to Bangkok once I did not like it. I usually stay at this one condo that I lease for one month and I really love it. I tried another one and didn’t like it. I really love the area of the condo and I’m thinking about buying a condo this year at that condominium complex. I believe you are right about traveling around but I feel like if I have my own place, I can travel the country and see things but I will always have my own condo to come back to that way, I can have it exactly the way I want it mattress, washer and dryer etc. what’s your thoughts? Also I will just be living off of my own money. I will not be able to get my retirement till 62 and I am 55 how much money do you think a person would need at the age of 55 to retire indefinitely over there? thanks for everything
Cheers mate
🙂
Goodman rob alot good stuff there how to make small fortune there is bring a big fortune with u 😅😅
Good stuff 👍
$300 a month. I live in south Thailand. My home is paid for. My monthly bills (flip-phone 70 cents, internet $12, garbage $2, water $2, electricity $70, gas $60, and car insurance $8) come to $154. I run the AC 20 hours a day. Food is $146 because I eat out a lot. An apartment here in Phattalume is $100. I don't waste money on drinks and women. Easy to live on $400 a month in an apartment here.
Great advice ❤️👍🙏🙏🙏
Bro. You are the first Thailand You tuber Ive watched, for awhile now. 10 yrs! How to do? Have some land in Cha Am/ Hua Hin area. Near wifes fam. Almost ready to make the leap. God willing but how to stay for 10yrs! Lace me up Krap
Cmon bro. Im serious. How to do? I gotta get out here soon but wanna be able to pull it off. My wife is Thai so might be easier. You are almost a Thai National now. Thats who I wanna be krap
I got a six figure salary....in baht.
It's a great place but I just couldn't take the humidity and heat. Tried it for nine months.
there are villages in the mountains. Cooler
@@ubiquitousdiabolusa few degrees cooler but no infrastructure up in the hills and little English spoken.
The heat and humidity are just not for me. I can stand it maybe during the winter months. Southern California spoiled me living next the the beach.
I tried Chang Mai and it was a little cooler But not as much I would like.
Also intense air pollution during the burning season.
I can only advise people who, like me, are coming here for sex. Rent a reasonably good apartment in Pattaya in which to live, moderately engage yourself in the nightlife scene here, and then travel a couple of times a year to Bangkok for a change of nightlife scenery.
Hey Rob what happened to the festival you went to in the past,a little more travel and eye candy?
I'm not sure.
You dont have to retire there full time. 50/50 or similar has advantages, especially if you have friends and family you want to keep in touch with, I dunno
Good point.
great video, see ya soon
in the video you say never move to a country if you don't know anyone, but what if you have no family or friends in you own country. i live in the uk and the amount of lonely men over 50 I meet is shocking. I've been visiting Thailand now for over 14 years and i can honestly say id rather be walking on a beach in Phuket than a typical street in London. especially if i was alone.
Yes, Phuket needs better public transportation, no taxi and tuktuk mafia and way better roads
The new tax law in Thailand is crazy 😢
Rob what is the latest with the government’s discussion on taxing income for retirees?
It's still. not clear.
@@ThailandRob thanks for the heads up Rob! 🙏
For most it really shouldnt make any difference if you paid the tax in home country, it's about taxing those making money not collecting pension tax which wouldnt help the Thai economy at all
Just live above Pattaya soi 6: all the kitty you want ... and no ties.
Glad you're back doing videos! I know there are a lot of videos on the cost of living and that it varies depending on location, but you are such a "straight shooter" I'd love to know your opinion. Is $2500 -3000 enough to afford a nice life in places like Hua Hin, Phucket or Jomtien for a 63 year old man? I looked up your videos and was unable to find anything recent about the cost of living. Being the selfish bast--rd that I am (joking), I was hoping to get an idea about my available budget. Be well and god bless!
🥦🥦☕☕. Start the day/morning with wake & bake plus coffee
I'm going to kamala Beach WIll you be there would like to hang out
Problem with houses is A FRANG CANT OWN property in Thailand or the Philippines.your girlfriends “brother “ will move in…in actuality it’s her husband
What I’ve noticed is that if you do this, you can’t own things. My old buddy married a lady there 20 years ago and whenever they stayed there, all the shit they bought, like sets of new clothes, would get stolen.
I love my guitar and my amps and effects. I’m pretty sure it’d all be ripped off in a long term stay over there, if I took the gear with me.
I hear you but I know many people that have all their stuff after all their years here.
What about maylasia or turkey?
... Turkey is very good and cheap. Check Marmaris, Fethiye or Oludeniz. Perfect beaches, white sand, good food

Will SSA in US accept your Thailand address?
Thank you
I know people that have their SS deposited into the Thailand Bank accounts. That is the most I know.

Retire in Cambodia it's easy
dirty and poor health care
@@ubiquitousdiabolus ... you think Thailand is clean? Golf is a dump place
Can you have a good standard of living in the countryside?
Is Khmer easy to learn?
It is easy, but if you are a Brit you will not receive your annual state pension increase..
Marry an issan woman? Why when you have a city of 10 million people, many with roots and decent jobs in the city.
The tourist destroys that, what he is looking for by finding it
I thought you would be tall
Never retire in Thailand with Pattaya and Phuket drowning in Russians after 45yrs I flew back to UK last nt, couldn't be happier. Even Thai government issued invite to Putin god help us.
Good Man Rob..วิดีโอดีครับขอบคุณครับ
Do single American women retire in Thailand? I see the value, but haven’t seen ANY retired women, single, making videos.
Not many.
Hi Rob had to post to my old 64 yr old school mate who married a Thai & brought house in her village, got ripped off, alaways drunk, coming off his bike, out with young woman & posting vile videos of you guys woman wearing nothing. He’s a lovely bloke but believe he’s going to kill himself out there. Still out till early morning. Sad to see. Thanks for this video 💕
Sorry to hear that.
