- For corporate America, Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan has emerged as a hard-charging cop on the monopoly beat. As a watchdog and warden of competition in business, the agency tries to protect consumers from the outsized power of corporations. CBS News chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa talks with Khan about going after Big Tech, Big Pharma, and the biggest online retailer of them all, Amazon.

Lina Kahn is one of my heroes.
What is good for Amazon is not good for small companies
And a good inventory doesn't always translate into good deals either...
Now Amazon has its eyes on the health insurance industry. We'll have the first trillionaire soon.
Thousands of small companies _exist_ because of Amazon.
The forced "covid" lockdowns was great for Amazon and put many small businesses out of business.
@@malus1426 What's good for the union leader isn't good for the union member.
❤ one of my favorite things of this administration has been Ms. Kahn
She needs to do food supply next. Have you noticed that three companies (Kellogs, Nestles, and General Mills) manufacture about 75% of products in the grocery store? No wonder grocery prices continue going up. These companies have no competition.
Those companies produce a lot of _packaged foods_ but hardly the 75% of products in the grocery store. Heck, General Mills and Kellogg's don't even control 75% of the breakfast cereal market, due to competition from Post, Quaker, private label, and others.
@@holycrapchris I think General Mills owns Post & Quaker.
Their loads pay junk too they Max you out on weights of 80,000 lb gross vehicle weight rating and you only get 5 Mi per gallon and get paid peanuts the idiots that are willing to hold them because they have to as they are company drivers for the big Monopoly trucking companies.
This women is spot on Amazon is a nightmare to sell in the fees have gotten insane
Lol she's wrecking your stock portfolio Jim? These companies are wrecking our lives.
Jim's never right about any stock so it's not Lina wrecking his stock portfolio it's been himself all along.
Politicians easily bought, bigger the company more money spend on lawyers and lobbyists. FTC not a bully, they are trying to fight for the voiceless. Thank you, please don't give up.
Sony is the market leader in video game consoles, with more than 2x the market share of Microsoft. Yet Sony lobbied the FTC to sue to block Microsoft's Activision merger, and the FTC dutifully complied. Taxpayer money went to support a dominant market player's effort to kneecap their rival.
Lina Khan is the Super Hero of the-middle class and the poor.
Bigger is definitely NOT better
It is generally always better for profits and greed and never better for everyone else.
....except when it comes to big government? ;-)
Good piece on someone who's work may seem too boring for modern news doomerism, but is actually making a big positive difference in the public's lives behind the scenes.
She needs to investigate Kaiser and how they monopolize the health care industry by making independent doctors go out of business.
Go get 'em, Lina!! 💙💙💙
With the two major parties, the media, and SCOTUS effectively 'owned' by corporate money...
I wish her luck!
If this woman ever launched a presidential campaign, I'd support it from day one. For now, I'm glad she's where she is.
🎉GOOD FOR HER. THANKS FOR HELPING THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. 21YRS FROM THE GROUND UP. I HAVE A PRINTING BUSINESS AND A BOYS PROGRAM.
Biden has been great for small companies, with record-setting applications for new businesses. He wasn't my first choice, but I'm amazed by the approach and all he's gotten done.
No Proctor and Gamble controls us 😂 Monopolies allowed in U.S. and we all know this!
Boeing's merger with McDonnell Douglas (and keeping their cost-cutting management) was key to their current situation (John Oliver's show pointed it out very well).
Thank you ms Kahn 🌺
Give em hell Lina! Bust the trusts!!
Bravo, Madame Chairwoman!!
Smart 🤓. Good woman. Good for America and Good for Consumers.... Less Monopolies Less price gouging...
3:22-3:32 has some weird narration moments. The emphasis on certain words make it sound pretty AI-generated. "STAR law school student" "Thirty FIVE... year old" and at the end "is a BOARD game"
I love her. Protect this woman at all cost
She's RIGHT. M.A. can and will create a monopoly if NOT checked.
It’s crazy bc I’ve never been interested in Amazon. Makes sense
Love her. Give 'em Hell.
I’ve not heard of her before but I hope she’s successful! The monopolization of everything is a shame.
Excellent!
And Margot Robbie making a Monopoly movie (Then Chutes and Ladders! Then....Risk, etc.)
Let's see... Lina Khan is still here, and Darrell Issa keeps switching districts to stay "alive" in the House, after bailing out of the Senate...
VP material then , perhaps Presidential.
Looking forward to the time when it’s Meta/Facebook/Instagram/What’sUp turn.
Suit against Apple glaringly omitted from segment, because *Apple doesn't monopolize* _(many iPhone/iPad comparable products sold)._ DC should focus on protecting us from actual big tech abuses/violations given just a single law written and enacted in 40 years _(which actually protects big tech, not us)._
Wish they’d do something about the price gauging at the grocery store..
Take your business elsewhere. Shop at Aldi.
Pharmacy is huge. I hope she can do it. And she's a millennial by the way❤
She loves Amazon and their services. So do you.
Amazon is a life saver for low income households. I do comparison shopping and Amazon almost always wins. Walmart often doesn't even come close. Smaller sellers have the option to go to that platform. So before we wreck Amazon because they may not be fair to smaller sellers, consider low income people who are struggling and absolutely have no responsibility to people who are out to make as much profit on the backs of those people. More affluent households don't care so much about saving pennies, so perhaps advertising by non-Amazon sellers needs to be re-targeted to that demographic.
Give this woman a raise!
I wonder how many expensively educated and trained, hardworking Journalists are being replaced by these AI “narrators” for the stories they bust their butts to put together?
Do the Networks really believe the alert viewer cannot tell the difference?
Having their work being “watered down” this way must be very demoralizing. js
Those of us who appreciate a good story, well-researched and presented, really miss you.😢
STOP SHOPPING
Remember when Lina Khan fell on her face in the ABK/Microsoft merger? She essentially was protecting Sony, a Japanese company, not American consumers. The FTC couldn't have been more unprepared during the case. What a complete disaster.
It was clear from the start that the FTC would lose. Especially since all other antitrust authorities have approved the acquisition and the antitrust law is not on the side of the FTC.
I don't believe that. She may not have won, but it's clear she is passionate about helping America get out from under the control of these monster huge companies.
Sure sucks at her job
Khanservative
Good thing she’s voting for Donald Trump in 2024👎🏻
(question: proof)
If only this administration was as aggressive as the FTC in enforcing the border. Priorities are all wrong.
Big corporations want open borders so they can get all that cheap labor. With all the lobbying money they spend, if big corporations were being hurt by the border, it would be locked down yesterday
The admin is using the current law, made by legislators, and has its hands tied on budget by the House because Trump wants the border to be a campaign issue. Try to keep up.
@linguaphile42 Yeah what happen in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Be honest don't lie. Only this year because it's an election year they want to make a deal
@@linguaphile42 doesn’t change the fact that the current law isn’t shaped by the legislators. It’s shaped by the donors who own the legislators
@@linguaphile42 How convenient to ignore the previous three years lol ok!
Wow 😂😂😂😂😂-a Star lawyer and a star architect-where did Lucy go ?
I don’t even have a driving license and did all that 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥱🥱🥱
Interesting how the rule of law is followed at the FTC but not at the Department of Homeland Security.
