  • This episode of SOLDIERS introduces you to the Army's annual Best Medic competition at Camp Bullis, Texas. 32 teams come to compete from across the Army. We followed a team from the 10th Mountain Division as they return to compete in the competition for a second time. Last year they came in 11th and they are seeking to improve on that. Watch and find out how they do.

I never saw combat, but participated in numerous wargames including two Reforgers. I was sent to the Expert Field Medic test and passed first time through. @@tkbeatz6293 I’m not really sure how to share my journey because there’s so much to say. AIT was hard for me. It’s a very high speed, fast paced course. Growing up I’ve always struggled with learning and school. I went to an alternative school in high school and we didn’t get homework and every test we had was open notes. At AIT they gave us roughly 6 hours of sleep. We never got free time so our study time was always after we got sent to bed. So instead of getting 6 hours I’d get roughly 3. That was mainly for EMT phase. Whiskey I didn’t really study for but you wear full kit everyday for 13 hours so I was always sore but whiskey was pretty fun. We practice everything we learn on each other like IVs and NPAs and tourniquets and CCAs. We would practice needle chest decompressions on dummies as well as surgical crics. Whiskey is exhausting but once you get through EMT you’re almost guaranteed to graduate. They taught us out on the battlefield that everyone relies on medics. If we have no idea what we are doing we still have to act like we do. We keep everyone calm so if the medic says everything is okay then everyone stays calm. We don’t have anyone to rely on, we are the ones that save other people so you can imagine the pressure put onto your shoulders. Everyone loves medics and we all have our own journeys. It is so worth it to go through all of that to be one. None of us regret being a medic. It’s amazing I promise.

in the Corps a good Doc was a shooter as well. Id put mine on windows, stairs, etc and he was always another shooter til we needed his medical skills. Greenside Corpsmen are actually considered Honorary Marines once they earn their FMF insignia

I’ve worked with corpsman and you’re right they are better at clinical skills. The best field medic or medical provider is the army’s combat medic literally all of the protocols we have today is because of Army SF Medics doing crazy things to save people’s lives and passing it directly down to combat medics!
