    Petition to end the term double eagle. Doesn't even make any sense. Albatross. It is called an Albatross. And its awesome.

      100% bogey is 1 over double bogey is 2 over. Birdie one under - eagle 2 under - albatros 3 under - double eagle is 4 under

      The man who coined all the terms lonely incels like you DO accept is the one who coined Double Eagle. It is the ORIGINAL term.
      Albatross makes no sense. Albatross historically has had a NEGATIVE connotation. Something you don't want to have around your neck. So why would you want it on your scorecard? It is literally the DUMBEST bird to choose for that reason.

    The "Best" ones are always where the pro is hitting a 3 wood in. When you are knocking a 6 iron or 8 iron in, sure its amazing but holing a full blast 3 wood is always better.

    How can you have "best albatrosses of all time" and not include Louis Oosthuizen albatross at the Masters in 2012 at hole number 2 ???

    I got an albatross one day a few years ago. It was a tough par 3...I'll never forget it.

      You can't have an albatross on a par 3.
      You can have a hole in 1 on a par 4 for an albatross.

    I’ll never forget watching one of my best friends sink an albatross on a par five at Shenvalee. So glad I was there to witness it.

    Calling an albatross a double eagle is like calling an eagle a double birdie. Actually its worse, double birdie for an eagle at least makes mathematical sense.

    I know they had they best at the time and to them it was the height of technology but it’s amazing what those older golfers did with the equipment and balls they had.

    I worked for a man in Conroe TX who had 6 (maybe more) double eagles in his time and he was not a pro and a very humble man.

    About 70 years ago, my mother and father played golf separately in the mens and ladies competitions. One day they both scored a hole in on the same par 3. They didn't know until the end of the day it had happened. What are the odds of that?

    I think I would've preferred if they started using the term "a tripler" for an albatross because it makes more sense than hearing "double eagle." As one of the commentators said "Why didn't he call it an albatross? It sounds better!"

      What you should be concerned about is the idiot commentators that call an Albatross a double eagle , really grinds my teeth as there is No such thing in Golf, whats next.... a hole in 1 is an "eagle in 1"
      PS think this par 5 was the champions/senior tour wasn't it , which is ok by me

    Double Eagle or Albatross, I have solved the mystery. If the clip is 360p its a Double Eagle, if its HD its an Albatross.

      I totally agree with you Caleb. A par 5 should not be reachable for them with a driver and a mid iron. If the hole is that 'easy' for them, it should be reduced to a par 4 for the tournament.

    I agree, Sir Nick. It's been called an Albatross by most of the non-American golfing world since the early 1900s (or before). Americans didn't coin the term "Double Eagle" until 1935. They had probably never heard of an Albatross, and possibly thought Gene Sarazen was the first golfer to ever score a 3 under par hole. But, "Double Eagle"? Really? An Eagle Eagle? But that would be 4 under and there's a name for that already. 4 under is called a Condor (of which there have been just 6 recorded). "Eagle Birdie" would be more correct, but sounds almost as dumb as Double Eagle.

    Albatross is a ridiculous term for a 2 on a Par 5. Yes, they are larger bird physically than eagles but the connotation of the word is considered far more negative than positive. A 2 on a par 5 is hardly an "albatross around your neck." Just the opposite.

    Isn't an albatross really an eagle and a half? A double eagle would be FOUR under par, which if you can do that on a rare Par 6 or higher hole, would be a condor or vulture.

    even if you think (and i don't) that these people are being to "cool" or over the top with making that shot. first........ how many of you can do that. i'm guessing none. second even if you could as rare as those are wouldn't u have a reaction? AND THIRD even ignoring both of those, let the guy have his moment. we don't fault them for that on holes in one. what makes these so special they can't enjoy the moment? if anything, the reactions to hole in ones shoudl be less.

    No such thing as a double eagle, eagle is -2, double eagle is -4, no such thing. It's an albatross. Stop calling it the wrong term. They clearly don't understand the definition. It needs to stop. More difficult than a hole-in-one. Most difficult score in golf and they can't even call it an albatross, wow.
