Really well presented and thanks to Dave for showing the way to the locations. I hope you can meet again and get more video like this when the drone is behaving. At least it work well following the loaded train
Thank you so much! I didn't mention it in the video, but we were seconds away from missing the train in the second shot because we got stuck behind a slow driver on some of those windy back roads. Definitely wanted to get my drone up for that second shot, but had no time! And the drone is thankfully behaving again. I'm not sure what was wrong with it that day!
Hi Johnathan, thank you so much for watching and welcome to my humble channel. I hope you enjoy the sparse selection of railfanning videos that I put together!
Very cool.. I think I may have watched Dave's video already because I remember the Cumberland Mine video in which you all met one of the workers there... 👍👍I will watch it again though to make sure I don't have it wrong.. Awesome footage bud 👍
Thanks so much! The video of his with the workers is someone else - that's Stormy Sky and his crew. I'm not nearly that smart nor do I know that much about any aspect of railroading! But I appreciate the kind words! It was a lot of fun to meet Dave and chase the train there while getting to see some of the facilities.
Good footage! Selecting strategic positions, turn and angle,e the camera, gives very good control of the drone. Flying sideways at high speed, chasing a rapid train might end up in a tree top....
Thank you so much! I'm still really new to railfanning with a drone and have some work to do on my operating skills, but it definitely has allowed me to get some really unique and fun angles. I appreciate your stopping by!
Thank you so much! I'm pretty amazed at some of the shots that the drone allows me to get. I didn't have much time to get that first shot set up and my adrenaline was still going a little high so movements were kinda erratic, but I knew I had to try to get the train rolling through the tunnels once it passed. Thanks for watching!
Glad to see you Seth, you and the misses have done an amazing job railfanning Dave's baby!! And your narration was great. The drone work was always how I wanted to see the RR, so different from the ground, thanks for that as well. Dave's a great guy isn't he. So glad you got to meet him. Thanks for the great post.

Wow, thank you so much! I am a HUGE fan of Danny and his style of video was a huge inspiration for how I planned this video out. I don't know if there's a railfanning channel out there that's better than the Distant Signal (aside from Dave's, of course) so I really consider this to be high praise. Thank you.

Thank you so much! Don't be too surprised if you don't find a ton more content like this one - this was really my first attempt at a video in this style. I'll definitely be trying this type of thing again, though. Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Pappy! And I was at my parent's house tonight where there's no cell signal so I completely missed the subs coming in! Haha, I appreciate you being around for a while now, my friend.
A fine video, sir. I enjoy watching shoreline railroads, which quite a few Railfans do. I do not have a,drone, so I do it the old fashioned way. Just curious on what the the operations usually is ( every day....every other day)
Thank you so much for your kind comment! And I apologize for a delayed response. As long as the mine is operating and there are no issues with the train or track, these guys will operate this train 24/7. They fill it up, run the 17 miles and unload it, then run the 17 miles back and start the process all over again, day and night. Thanks for watching!
It was so fascinating to see some of these locations that I've watched so many times on Dave's channel in person... and then to see them from the air and show Dave angles that he's never seen before! I really appreciate the kind words. Many, many, many hours went into the narration and I especially appreciate the feedback there. Thanks so much for watching!
Great video. Thanks for doing that. Dave is a good guy and we're glad he is sharing his videos with us all. BTW, we are planning to steal a cribber from CSX soon so he can have a newer one to use on his railroad. Any chance you can use that their drone for some spy footage of CSX's yard?
I created the 3d model replica of this train (The 3 locomotives and the two different types of trinity hoppers along with the texture files for the liveries) for the Immersive Railroading mod for Minecraft. The hoppers can hold a coal inventory and the % of inventory space used reflects visually as coal in the car.
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth A Video no because they are not yet finalized for the game yet but I do have images of the hopper and I think of one of the locomotives. I will have to find them in my images folder though
Railfanning a classic mine railroad in Cumberland Pennsylvania. The railroad serves a mine. Taken to processing facilities of the United States. Loaded with coal. Back to mine with empty hoppers. Serving a coal power plant. The Cumberland Mine Railroad serves the rest of world.
Great video, thank you! I'd think two SD38-2's could handle more then 37 hoppers, is there another parameter that limits the train? Maybe travel time, safety concerns or the track being limited by spur length that won't accommodate a longer train? Maybe the age of the engines? Any guess why the third engine, the SD40-2 wasn't being used? Maybe its a backup?
Thank you so much for watching and for the great questions! I don't remember if it's on the mine end or the river end (or both), but their trains are limited to 38 cars in length due to the train running out of room to pull forward once the last car has been loaded/unloaded. The train simply has no more track to use to access a 39th hopper. And I didn't get an official reason why the SD40-2 wasn't being used that day, but they use the three pretty interchangeably. It may have needed repair or maintenance. I wish I had asked.
Yeah, sorry about that. I just acquired my microphone setup two days before recording the sound for this one. I thought I had it at least somewhat figured out, but the more I watch how-to videos, the more I realized how far off I was. I had a pop filter in place but was just waaaay too close to my mic when recording. And I worked a little with post processing but it was extremely minimal. I'll look into the 80Hz high-pass for next time. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for paying a visit, Darrell! I'm glad you enjoyed the content!
@@deraildarrell yeah since I commented on your comment we both see it. I just wanted to thank you for subbing, Seth has some great videos and would really like to see him over that 100 hump.
Thanks thats very nice !
Thank you so much!
Holy moly, this was an excellent video! Lots of great shots, I really enjoyed this installment! I also enjoy Dave's channel, lots of informative content on his channel.
Thank you! I really enjoyed putting this one together. And Dave's channel is second to none. He's a great guy and I'm constantly learning about railroading from him.
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth You're welcome! It really is! He is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to railroads.
@@ericcoffedgp40 for sure! Meeting him in person was really something, too. Definitely knows his stuff and he knows this railroad like the back of his hand!
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth Very nice, well thanks for sharing!
Dave told of your drone video of the Cumberland Mine railroad on his channel. Just had to see it!
Very nice job there! The still shots added to the overall experience. Thank you for the air views!
Thank you so much! We had such a fun time visiting with Dave and collecting all of the various shots! Thank you for watching and for all of your kind words.
Great video and content
Thank you so much!
Great video thanks
Thank you! And thank you for watching!
Very cool video, We enjoyed watching and have a great rest of your day.
Thank you for stopping by! Hope you have a great rest of your day as well.
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth Your very welcome and thanks also.
The mapletown rd. Tunnel Shot has been cleared. Nice shot from the I-79 tunnels. The very last shot of the locomotive at the loadout was also great!
Thank you! And that’s great to know!
Great video
Thank you so much!
Just found this video and it's great
Thank you so much!
Hi Seth. New subscriber. Great video!
Will be looking forward to your other videos
That's some fine work sir. Really enjoyed the drone footage. Really glad Dave pointed out your efforts.
Thank you so much! I'm still really new to railfanning with a drone and have some work to do on my operating skills, but it definitely has allowed me to get some really unique and fun angles. I appreciate your stopping by!
Wonderful video! That drone shot at 2:27 was fantastic. Your drone really opens up interesting possibilities.
Thank you, Pappy! We had such a great time visiting Dave and the mine. I so wish I could have gotten more drone footage, but I am so very thankful for the footage that I was able to capture! Dave really is a great guy, too. And I am so excited to go back and visit again in the future!
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth you got the perfect amount in this one. 👍
This was fantastic. Keep it up! The voice over reminds me of Danny Hartman on the Distant Signal channel. Excellent shots too.
Wow, thank you so much! I am a HUGE fan of Danny and his style of video was a huge inspiration for how I planned this video out. I don't know if there's a railfanning channel out there that's better than the Distant Signal (aside from Dave's, of course) so I really consider this to be high praise. Thank you.
Cool shots. Glad you were able to go and film this and share!!
Thank you so much!
Been a fan of Dave's videos for a while now and I'm glad you two got together and you were able to make this great video. I'm definitely going to be subscribing and checking out the rest of your stuff.
Thank you so much! Don't be too surprised if you don't find a ton more content like this one - this was really my first attempt at a video in this style. I'll definitely be trying this type of thing again, though. Thanks for watching!
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth No worries, Always happy to see any kind of railroad content especially from the Southern Tier

Thank you so much, John! It was such a fun experience!
Yes indeed very cool video guys 😊
Thank you so much!
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth You're Very Much Welcome 😊
A fine video, sir. I enjoy watching shoreline railroads, which quite a few Railfans do. I do not have a,drone, so I do it the old fashioned way. Just curious on what the the operations usually is ( every day....every other day)
Thank you so much for your kind comment! And I apologize for a delayed response. As long as the mine is operating and there are no issues with the train or track, these guys will operate this train 24/7. They fill it up, run the 17 miles and unload it, then run the 17 miles back and start the process all over again, day and night.
Thanks for watching!
very cool video. Connecting over from Tri-Gogglin
Dave sent me here. Very good video of spots he's filmed before but just from the ground. 🚂🚃🚃🚃 Very impressive narration too.
Dave sent me over
Thanks for stopping by! We hope you enjoyed!
Thank you! Glad to be able to share it with you! And that's great, I'm sure Dave will appreciate the slightly used cribber! Haha
Nice video! Good job on the “Wife Cam”! 🙂
Thank you so much! The Wife Cam is an excellent addition to the channel!
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth I like it!
@@WilliamCChapin Welcome aboard my humble channel!
What amazes me is how uniform the coal loading is in the cars that I see in WA state.
That's awesome! Do you have a video of these? I'd love to see them!
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth A Video no because they are not yet finalized for the game yet but I do have images of the hopper and I think of one of the locomotives. I will have to find them in my images folder though
@@Elfnetdesigns Sounds good. Looking forward to seeing them!
I love seeing coal cars going to make the power.
Never heard of that wife cam, is it available on Amazon. Lol.😂
Haha, no, you have to order those special. They work well most of the time, but are very expensive!! Haha!
Is 22 an old Milwaukee Road locomotive? It's got their short fuel tank style.
Dave sent me. New sub also.
Thank you for coming! And welcome to my humble channel!
Hey. Was that Shoestring on that one coal car? It sure looked like him trying to hide.
Haha, if it was, he was probably a little disappointed at how far the train took him from where he hopped on! Thanks for watching!
@@TheyCallHimDietSeth Great video. Please keep them coming. Your video and editing skills are off the hook.
@@thonatim5321 Thank you! You are very kind.
Good video, but please high-pass your voice at like 80Hz. all the plosives are murder for those of us with decent sound systems.
