  • The Chandelle is a maneuver you can fly in any airplane. It is fun to fly, but demanding of good stick and rudder skills to fly well. Jim Alsip teaches this maneuver in his emergency maneuvers course, because like learning to fly aerobatic maneuvers, emergency maneuvers training should teach pilots to fly their airplane on the edge of its performance envelop. The Fabulous Chandelle trades airspeed for altitude during a 180 degree turn. Like a loop or a roll, the chandelle is difficult to fly well.
