  • Mississippi is joining the rest of the U.S. by removing the Confederate emblem from its 125-year-old state flag. Many see the symbol as representing racism. Eric Sorensen looks at this historic milestone amid America's reckoning with racial injustices.

The creator of the Confederate flag is William Tappan Thompson. Thompson called it "The White man's Flag". Thompson clearly explained the meaning of the flag, Thompson said," As a people, we are fighting to maintain the heaven ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be problematical of our cause".
The creator of the flag on knows what it meant. So to say its not racist is dishonest.
To put up with this in 2020 is just astonishing.

When the south was miss represented by the strong central government of the north. The south saw it much of a threat to their democracy and liberty as we are currently seeing today. Large central governments are misrepresenting the suburbs telling those not in favor of being told how to live their lives. The confederate flag is waved by those who feel the threat of a rising central government and which flag to better represent the rise of a silent majority to protest a country that has a history of oppressing ones rights? Waved by those of all colors, the flag has been switched to represent those willing to break free from a tyrannical government. Not the owning of slaves.

In Georgia, the Confederate battle flag was reintroduced as an element of the state flag in 1956, just two years after the Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education. It was considered by many to be a protest against school desegregation.[27] It was also raised at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) during protests against integration of schools.[28]

I mean, that's an additional reason why it should not represent Mississippi. Plus I'd argue that the troublesome part is only the top-right index, which is the confederate flag with slightly different proportions. Regardless, as the Virginian battle flag flew for the confederate cause, the two are the sinonymous in meaning. It's the same logic with which you can call SS division signs nazi signs

The progression that blacks have made over the last 300 years is incredible. Blacks went from slaves to being President of the country. They absolutely dominate in sports and Olympic Games. Over 150 have served in Congress. Mayors to senators. Chief of police. High rank military. Actors musicians rap artists. As far as I’m concerned...The black community has made it, and then some. If a little flag bothers you then I think that’s on you. It’s not waved to represent racism. It’s sad that some see it that way. If someone was to ask me 5 things that describe myself color would never be an answer. I view people as people. This division going on in this country is sickening. It’s hypocrisy at its finest. We’re better then this. Cut the “racist” news and let’s start talking about what’s goin on now not 150 years ago and start planning for a better future where we all benefit as humans.

Booker T. Washington's Letter to Mamie A. Harrison Rochester N. Y. June 16, 1914"My dear Madam: I am going to take up very carefully the matter of the Confederate Monument about which you wrote me, and see if I can find someone to give the money that is still needed. I am very much interested in the matter and thank you for writing me. During the summer months people with money are very much away from home and it is hard to reach them, so it may be I may not be able to do anything about it until fall. I want to say again how very much we all appreciate the visit of [former Confederate] General George Paul Harrison to Tuskegee. We all realize more and more that men like him are the TRUE FRIENDS of our race, and that any Monument that will keep the fine character of such heroes before the public will prove helpful to both races in the South.Yours truly,Booker T. Remember- the Confederates didn’t want to kill or fight back people (per say) or they would of just killed their slaves instead of set them free? the confederacy/Rebels fought the new laws , the all white government made , without due proses!
The south’s slaves were part of the family in a lot of places & a huge investment.
It would be like saying all dogs must be free today! We all would probably fight to keep our dogs for as long as we can, looking for any loop hole or way to avoid following the new law!
