My main issue is not that there are female Custodes. What bothers me is them saying that "there always were female custodes".
If they were honest and came out saying "hey, we are introducing this female Custode, she's the first of her kind, by imperial decree the requirement for Custodes being males has been lifted, but the training and physical requirements stand the same".
DONE! They introduced female Custodes without butchering the lore and without disrespecting the players' intelligence.

It would require a much better thought out build up because of the current political climate. Ironically, the mad cohort made it much more difficult to properly introduce "the first female x" into any franchise. An average person now is automatically wary of such things. And everyone else loses their shit, rightfully or not.
And also, like a million people pointed out before, Sisters of Battle and Sisters of Silence exist. Equally iconic to SMs and Custodes, furiously badass, solid lore, all the while carrying their femininity with pride, or at least a relatively "healthy" disregard. Yet apparently to represent women correctly, you have to be a poorly photoshopped muscle man with an attitude that would make an Iron Hands go "Holy Terra you're an asshole".
But apparently Black Rock paychecks are much more tempting than being part of a legacy of a great franchise, and money that all current and potential fans are willing to give to support it. I'm just hoping Henry managed to stand his ground on all the important stuff, and all of Amazon's bs could be overlooked in his show.

My favorite aspect of the whole female custodes narrative is that they didn't retcon anything about how custodes are made. By establishing female custodes, Games Workshop really indirectly said that the only way women can undergo genetic augmentation is if it is personally handled by the emperor, the biggest gigachad of all time. Because everyone knows that the only person who can improve upon the female form and abilities is a man, the manliest man. A man so manly, he only had sons. A man who is so manly that his sons only had sons. Isn't the whole setting of warhammer 40k universe supposed to be grimdark where individualism is heresy? Playing tabletop and exploring this fictional universe is meant as to be an escape, not a reflection of current society and culture. I'd think it might be a tad unhealthy to feel like you need to see yourself in a character during a planetary alien invasion to appreciate the fantasy universe. Bugs eat planet unless Titus stops it. You dictate how Titus does this. Thats as deep as anyone really needs to get to enjoy Space Marine 2.

GW no longer exists as a company for my Warhammer 40K group. We now custom design and 3-D print all our own models, and create our own rule books. They stabbed the fan base in the back, so they deserve no loyalty. I feel bad for the game shops we used to play at, but times change.

They are basically equal to the Custodes, an elite guard force of the Emperor Himself that instead specializes in fighting psykers and demons.

I actually play the tabletop Warhammer 40k, and I run Custodes. I have 10 females in my army out of the 30 models I bring. They are called Sisters of Silence. 40k is fine how it is now.
It seems like many companies would rather burn an ip to the ground and go bankrupt than just let the fans have fun and I think they are doing it out of spite.

10 years ago I was against Gatekeeping, I was excited when new people started to be interested in the things I was interested in. Now we need it more than ever.
The thing is in 40k, if it were actually grimdark, women wouldn't be in any role other than breeding stock. They would have the irreplaceable role of creating more meat for the grinder. In an actual grimdark world a woman dying on the battlefield would be considered a massive loss of resources because all the men she could have provided to the war machince in the future would have been lost.

Attractive characters have been in demand for always as well, as nobody is willing to look at ugly characters for hours on end.

Why support Games Workshop and all their amazing game systems?
1) Annoying 3-year "subscription" rotations on main game systems forcing constant new purchases of rule books.
2) Constant fear of armies being "squated" forcing new model purchases and personal hobby work loss. SCE, BOC, SO
3) Aggregious butchering of established lore to cater to minorities who don't play the games anyway.
4) Incredibly skewed pricing strategy forcing players to spend $$$ repeatedly to fill out units. $100+ to fill out one ork boy unit, LOL.
This is no longer a supportable hobby, this is a "pump-n-dump" model to churn as much $$$ from anyone gullible to keep paying.

Warhammer literally saved my life. I had issues with some bad stuff, and changing my focus to this hobby, I was able to get away from that way of life. I am down to fight to the very end for this hobby to stay the way it is.
I think the Warhammer hobby - both Fantasy and 40K - means a ton to a lot of people. They aren't just little plastic figures. They represent something much more important to those who are invested in them. Of course, to outsiders and tourists, it appears to just be adults playing with toys, which is of course why they so often use the argument of "it's just plastic soldiers. Why does it matter?". It's a huge tell.

I would reccommend the new Lord of the Rings table top game. It has that magic that pulled people originally in it. Just looking at it gives me a fuzzy feeling.
I tried talking to wh40k fans at work and I really pissed them off when I mentioned 3d printing..... Which in hindsight makes sense they probably wanted to support the company and here I come along saying basically to completely screw the company that made it....
I learned my lesson then and there though. WH40k fans are really inclusive and it wasn't worth it for me to try and talk to them.
I still like WH40k, but more as a novelty. I like some of the stories.

For pen and paper it's easy to get a module going, the only thing you need to flesh out from there is the setting and story.
Here's a story idea literally off the top of my head.
Glorious space empire encounters alien menace, alien menace is a species of hive minded conceptual beings. Space Empire uses high level science bordering on magic to fight conceptual threats with concepts of their own. Glorious space empire barely wins said fight but the usage of said concepts has broken the established order of the universe in localized space.
Areas of space have concepts like time broken irrecoverably, so anyone entering that space can encounter time anomalies like time running backwards, or time frozen in space, or stuttering. Or a place where luck is completely broken, where the worst bad luck could happen or the best could be the norm to where you could flip a dozen coins and always call heads, and any battle in such a space basically gives advantage to both sides during a fight. That could play out on a tabletop fairly easily with specific rules for those areas being fought in, with perhaps a random dice roll each turn determining if areas just randomly pop up on a war table and where (likely determined by grid coordinates).
Glorious space empire and conceptual alien menace are shadows of their former self, using the remnants of their empires on the edges of the conflict zone to try and brave to the center where supposedly a way to fix the broken universe/a wonder weapon to kill their opponent/some other macguffin exists/etc. that would keep both sides braving the broken reality that has split their empires apart You could have entire planets where the concept of round has shifted to square and now you have a cube planet you have to fight over, the concept of down is reversed so you have to anchor yourself to the ground or use antigravity units to keep yourself from flying off into space.(With accompanying rules for terrain and movement)
As for other factions there could be another alien species faction based around a merchant cargo cult that are basically like scavengers that roam battlefields for tools and equipment to sell back to the two empires. Or a robot race that goes around fixing broken areas of space which includes fixing/destroying the broken conceptual areas with the two empires in them so become hostile to them by default. And then maybe a splinter faction of the scientists of both empires that came together to try and oppose everyone, pooling the high end scientific resources of the Glorious Empire and Alien menace to try and fix things but don't have the manpower to directly oppose the much larger portions of their factions.
There, 20 minutes to get a general setting, two major antagonist players that set up the setting, a fantastical setting that can influence the terrain and abilities of the cast that's playing on it, and 5 factions to play as. Now all you'd have to do is make some units and 3D models that people can print out, a movement and attack ruleset, a bit of history of each of the factions pre and post Con-Break (Concept Break) and a few game scenarios that can be shipped with the product for people to play.
Designing and play testing would probably take time, and 3D modelling might be a tiny bit costly (Especially if you do physical prints to be shipped with first editions and for people to buy) but you could probably get all of that set up with less than 100K dollars, something that Cavil would absolutely be able to do. And even if he doesn't he has a massive fanbase, his instagram has 27 million followers, if even 1% of that can give 1 dollar towards a crowdsource, that's 270K. Much less if there are 5-10-25-50-100$+ stretch goals, he'd probably only need 0.01% of his fanbase to actually give any money towards the product to get the money he needs to fund a first print run of a game, with a limited print of the rule books and digital distributions being made available shortly thereafter.
If he does try something on his own, suddenly 50 chicks will remember he did something to them 50 years ago. Remember he already was falsely accused for leaving The Witcher.

It would fit into the Emperor's vision as the Custodes and Astartes are meant to be sexless beings that serve humanity with zero need for distraction. Men are a better template for this than women as men don't suffer from the same emotional thinking and physical softness that would require essentially redeveloping the entire body instead of just throwing some organs in there.
