Yes but this recording of the HD600 is off. It doesn't sound right and has a weird distortion, akin of white noise. I own the HD600 and can tell you that this track sounds nowhere like what the sample playback in Dank's videos suggests.

Ohms is the resistance to power going through the headphones. Sensitivity is the rating of volume, for a standard signal. You want a higher sensitivity, this is sometimes sacrificed for balancing the frequency spectrum balance. For anyone curious.
It's always interesting to me to sort through which of each headphone I like better when you do these comparisons, cause I learn more and more about what I want when I finally get some more overears. So far I'm down to "balanced mids, slightly boosted bass, and for God's sake no super bright and tinny uppers!" This is a hilarious video to me, cause I usually listen to your videos with my roomies on either my phone speaker or a Bluetooth speaker, but today I not only finally watched your video on my main computer, but also on my new headphones (Skullcandy SLYR Pro series cause I had a coupon). So I FINALLY got to truly hear the subtle differences in the headphone comparison portions! Absolutely blew my damn mind and got me cackling so loud I spooked my cat.
Speaking of home desktop headphone amps, I'd love to see you do a video on those. I use a HiFiman EF2A and the fact that it uses vacuum tubes always fascinates me.
Guitar amps still often use vacuum tubes too. They're preferred for guitar because they'll start to clip the signal beyond a certain volume, giving you an overdriven sound.
yeah, despite solid state amplification being technically superior in many ways, some people still cling to tube amplification, especially guitarists. it's supposedly because tubes clip the signal in a fundamentally different way from transistors, producing more even harmonics that sound "sweeter". but you only hear that effect if the signal is pushed so hard that it clips and distorts, and for a listening situation that's not what you're looking for
Hearing the 600s vs the 600s reminded me that every time I listen to Walk Through The Park myself, I expect the audio to go horrible at that first break.
You've trained my brain to expect the tone and sound of that audio clip to shift every few seconds, it's actually makes the whole clip sound weird to me.
This brings up my preferences...I absolutely adore Audio Technica's ATH-M50X over-ear headphones...they can be driven by a phone or portable CD player fairly easily...but I own a Schiit Audio Asgard 2 headphone amp...class A power up to 1 watt!! The way the amp lights up the audio from the ATH-M50X's is INSANE! Quality power with headroom makes an incredibly nice change to the music. Sure I could drive damn near any pair of headphones with the Asgard 2...it really does have a noticable and healthy impact.
I've been so conditioned to hear a difference when comparing headphones with "that song" that I could have sworn the HD600s sounded brighter than the HD600s. Cheers mate!
Best way to think of how ohms and sensitivity works electrically is this: ohms is driven by voltage, sensitivity is driven by current. A headphone doesn't just need the raw numbers in terms of power, how that power is applied (whether through higher voltage or higher current) also matters.
I think it's interesting how RUclips compression really ruins the high end on the headphone recording. I've listened to some K240 Sextetts before and the highs are super crisp, not fuzzy or tinny like they record as. (Also good to see the absurd power requirements finally validated, I don't listen to them very loud so I've always wondered if they take as much juice as people say.)
I've gotta hand it to DankPods, dude is just making videos about a passion for audio and he's gotten me into it as well. I'm now listening to lossless quality music out of my Fiio M11 Plus ESS with my Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusks with a balanced cable, and I'm now looking into getting some DT990 Pros, possibly custom made by Custom Cans Thank you mate
Wade, I'd love to send you an amp or dac/amp from Mayflower Electronics - they're local to me in Upstate NY and they're assembled in CT (or at least the Arc Mini is), so it's keeping things small and local like the Grados. (Plus, I just dig the fact that a relatively well regarded boutique manufacturer decided to stick around here of all places.)
Fun fact about the Easy-To-Run Headphones: They can sound rather noisy on certain devices, such as laptops, since the minimum power that can be output is rather high, resulting in it having limited dynamic range (and hence, noise). I was able to reduce the noise and improve the sound quality by putting a variable resistor in series, which also functioned as an old-fashioned volume knob.
They sell 80 ohm barrels you can plug at the end of the jack that accomplishes this, raising the noise floor so the electrical noise isn't so prevalent while still allowing the sensitive headphone to run off a dongle / laptop. Amazon has them under "Impedance Adapter" for around $8USD
@3:38 the HD600 compared to itself made me realise for the first time that those are NOT how my own headphones sound, so I decided to compare your HD600 recording to the original track played through my headphones. I think in the future you could also include an original snippet of the track for comparison, against the HD600 and the audiences' own headphones :)
I can confirm, although I use some misodiko mesh pads so that changed the sound of it just a little bit. I have a feeling that its the recording of the measurement machines he uses that might cause the diff in sound
Hey don't know, if ya heard but KZ now makes Planar earbuds Yes, PLANAR EARSTICKS, they call em PR with PR1 And PR1 Pro as there line up With PROs coming in at 246 Aussie bucks while the normal/old version costs 50 bucks less (those prices are without sale)
i got my self an akg k340 since they`ve been mentioned before. now it was quite a weird feeling to listen to the sample through the actual headphone:) i really love the 340`s - they put a smile on my face everyday!
Impedance is a useful metric because it's really easy to measure scientifically. But it's only tangentially related to volume, it's a measure of electrical resistance after all. Whereas sensitivity is literally a measure of volume, but it's a much less scientific number. You'll see different numbers for a headphone's sensitivity depending on who measures them, and this is because it depends on measuring equipment, seal, acoustics and pink noise control etc. If you're really unsure whether you'll be able to drive a headphone, I recommend finding someone who has given a sensitivity score to the headphone you're after and a headphone you own. That way you can usually assume they'll have measured both with the same equipment and the relative difference will be trustworthy.
I have a very rare pair of planar magnetic headphones that are hand built by some electrical engineer man. They're 11 ohms only... but they need a proper high power desktop amplifier that can push out anywhere from 3-7 volts to drive properly. The headphones are called the Nectar Bee They also have the thickest planar driver ever made since they're custom and it's attached quite loosely specifically to move large amounts of air for bass. They stay completely flat with the bass until about 16-17 Hz. They go down all the way to 5Hz with a roll off. It's crazy, even when you take the headphones off your head, you can still audibly hear the bass these things can produce.
I have a set of the K240s, from the 70s. I love to listen to them purely for the toms and the snares, they make me feel warm and fuzzy. I highly recommend Alice in Chains Unplugged on vinyl for a listen through them.
You inspired me about a year ago to pick up a pair of HD600s and a simple amp/dac setup and I use them every day and they are my favorite pair of headphones
The craziest thing I've already taken away from this video is that the Audeze LCD 2's came out in 2009. I always thought they were some weirdo late 70's thing.
I have to admit, you and this channel are the reason why I got my own Fiio mini amp for my desktop and got brand new Senny 58X headphones. Turning me into a proper audiophile!

I use the original SONY PHA-1 USB amp. It's pretty good value for money. Actually watched this video using the SONY PHA-1 ($300~) and a pair of XCD BTOE1 headphones from JB Hifi that cost $30.
I've got a pair of old headphones somewhere I'll have to dig out, they have potentiometers on the side because there's multiple drivers per ear cup. I remembered they exist because I spotted them in the recent season of Stranger Things (there was some worker in the background wearing them)
drum museum could bring about Dank's ascension from portable to proper audio room with dedicated AMP used for nothing but glorious analogue, maybe even wood or at least faux wood pannels. good stuff ahead i recon.

The full hd600 sample was weird to hear, lmao. Great video, Dank! Thanks for consistently uploading, and maintaining the quality of your content!
I picked up a pair of AKG K240 sextettes at a yard sale for $3! I only knew about them because of this channel
This is a hilarious video to me, cause I usually listen to your videos with my roomies on either my phone speaker or a Bluetooth speaker, but today I not only finally watched your video on my main computer, but also on my new headphones (Skullcandy SLYR Pro series cause I had a coupon). So I FINALLY got to truly hear the subtle differences in the headphone comparison portions! Absolutely blew my damn mind and got me cackling so loud I spooked my cat.
Dude this is so much more of an in-depth dive into how these actually sound and stuff, thank you, didnt know i needed that
Speaking of home desktop headphone amps, I'd love to see you do a video on those.
The zoom on the HD600s is killing me lmao I’ve never heard that sample all the way through
It was an interesting experience to say the least, lol.
I picked up a pair of vintage K240DF's recently and love them! The length of the cable is real!
I've been so conditioned to hear a difference when comparing headphones with "that song" that I could have sworn the HD600s sounded brighter than the HD600s. Cheers mate!
Best way to think of how ohms and sensitivity works electrically is this:
ohms is driven by voltage, sensitivity is driven by current.
Me listening to the freakish ears on my phone speakers be like: “Hm yes, the sound sounds like sound.”
I've gotta hand it to DankPods, dude is just making videos about a passion for audio and he's gotten me into it as well. I'm now listening to lossless quality music out of my Fiio M11 Plus ESS with my Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusks with a balanced cable, and I'm now looking into getting some DT990 Pros, possibly custom made by Custom Cans
Thank you mate
Really love you audiophile headphone videos
4:02.. the second pair sounded the best
Hearing the whole clip with just the Hurr Durr Six Hunge-os was actually pretty nice. They really are a solid benchmark pair of cans.
this is a legendary moment in Dankpods history 3:38
I almost choked on my udon when the camera kept zooming in on the Sennheisers. Brilliant.
I loved listening to all of these through my Sony Linkbuds
ah yes, we all need a headphone stink-a-thon in life!
Thinking back, In theory you can daisy chain an infinite number of these for infinite stink, any headphone becomes the slinkiest
@@oXPsYXo Ooh, I didn't know they existed! Thanks for bringing it up.
@@oXPsYXo Yup, and that's called the stink line
@3:38 the HD600 compared to itself made me realise for the first time that those are NOT how my own headphones sound, so I decided to compare your HD600 recording to the original track played through my headphones.
I think in the future you could also include an original snippet of the track for comparison, against the HD600 and the audiences' own headphones :)
I can confirm, although I use some misodiko mesh pads so that changed the sound of it just a little bit. I have a feeling that its the recording of the measurement machines he uses that might cause the diff in sound
3:57 Rare HurrDurr 600 Jumpscare
Hey don't know, if ya heard but KZ now makes Planar earbuds
Yes, PLANAR EARSTICKS, they call em PR with PR1 And PR1 Pro as there line up
With PROs coming in at 246 Aussie bucks while the normal/old version costs 50 bucks less (those prices are without sale)
ah yes, a dankpods video. the best form of serotonin
"Should I buy the HD600S or the HD600S?"
Wade: "I got u mate"
Let's be real, Wade makes us all laugh and helps us with depression
i got my self an akg k340 since they`ve been mentioned before. now it was quite a weird feeling to listen to the sample through the actual headphone:) i really love the 340`s - they put a smile on my face everyday!
7:45 BRAZIL MENTIONED!!!!!!!
1970s headphones were great you could wire it up and listen to music as you walked to the bakery
He’s back! The headphone killer is back!
6:34 has to be my favorite explanation for electrostatic headphones ever lmao
I have a very rare pair of planar magnetic headphones that are hand built by some electrical engineer man. They're 11 ohms only... but they need a proper high power desktop amplifier that can push out anywhere from 3-7 volts to drive properly. The headphones are called the Nectar Bee
They also have the thickest planar driver ever made since they're custom and it's attached quite loosely specifically to move large amounts of air for bass.
4:13 You know why ohms are stinky as a power measurement? BECAUSE IT'S A UNIT OF RESISTANCE/REACTANCE/IMPEDANCE AND NOT POWER
I have to admit, you and this channel are the reason why I got my own Fiio mini amp for my desktop and got brand new Senny 58X headphones. Turning me into a proper audiophile!
1:37 secret face reveal??
He's revealed his face a few times. Somes times talking directly to the camera, or on the drum stream where he's in full view
Watching that Frank bit at the end reminded me of my cats when I got them a new cat bed they preferred to lay in the box the bed came in. XD
After watching this channel for a long time, I just took delivery of my first real set of headphones, and it's the HD 600. I am enjoying it a lot. Thanks for indirectly influencing my decision by always using the HD 600 as the referee headphones. :)
I remembered they exist because I spotted them in the recent season of Stranger Things (there was some worker in the background wearing them)
Found them, Pioneer SE-505. They are murder to wear in summer
I was waiting to get pranked by the skullcandy crushers when you compared the hd 600s to themselves :(
I watched so many dank pods vids, I think this music is forever engraved in my brain.
All the music legend making an appearance , the huh duh, tge freakish ear on a stand, i absolutely love this
drum museum could bring about Dank's ascension from portable to proper audio room with dedicated AMP used for nothing but glorious analogue, maybe even wood or at least faux wood pannels.
good stuff ahead i recon.
I actually watched this video on the old akg k240 I LOVE them they sound so nice
I have the k240 studio, the new-ish ones, and I might not have a lot of experience but they're pretty good for the price ! But stinky bass are FORBIDEN
also I'm not a car'eful person, but at least I was able to repair them multiple times, which i could not with the Kwhatever my gf used to have
Thanks for showing of the K340s. Gonna buy a pair and play around with them. For 100-150€ they seem like a good deal for people that already spent way to much on audio equipment for no reason.
HD600’s vs HD600’s is the equivalent to you vs the guy she told you not to worry about but they’re the same guy
IDK man, coming outta my bargain bin Dell speakers that came with my big box computer in 2006, they all sound the same.
Love your shit, keep being amazing!
Im using a pair of K240s to listen to this rn haha, got a brand new pair for like 50 dollars and they are amazing for the price
As a Brazilian jazz musician, I actually let out a little scream when I saw Marcos Valle and his awful album cover at 7:47
i listened to this on my 99 classics thanks to your rec. Keep em coming brother!
