Nondestructive Inspection - 2A7X2. I sat down with Jay Sutton, a prior US Airman and he talked about his job in the Air Force which was Nondestructive inspection - 2A7X2 and we answered questions like where is tech school for Nondestructive Inspection, how long is tech school for Nondestructive Inspection, what bases can Nondestructive Inspection go to, what exactly you do in Nondestructive Inspection, and advice for people who get Nondestructive Inspection as their job in the Air Force.
Nondestructive Inspection is also commonly referred to as NDI in the Air Force.

I was an NDI inspector back in the day (87-90) I was stationed at Luke AFB, with the 405th EMS. This is one of the BEST jobs in the AF.
Currently making 6 figures doing this job, I dint learned it in the Air Force, I did it as a trainee now I’m certified in all 5 basic methods of NDT and did not have to pay for college which is great, I encourage all the young bucks to get in it, is a great time to be a NDT Inspector.
how hard was it to get a job?,
I feel like going this route but I'm concerned about job security and stuff like that outside my time serving.
@@b4pp077 ^ same boat as you. worried about jobs on the civilian side. are part time opportunities hard to come by? wondering for later in life, when I become a mom.
@@paulaarce9331 personally from my experience since I’m 17 I’ve really struggled to get a job because of under aged legal issues mainly but I guess where you’re trying to work part time plays a role.
@@b4pp077 if you’re good not too hard. Just need a couple of certifications to be more valuable than those with fewer
are you a level 3? What methods do you perform? Are you in the aviation industry?
NDI career field is the best kept secret in Mx!! I did 21+ years doing NDI from ANG to AD. During my time in, it seems that there were always a SRB (Selective Reenlistment Bonus) available. In addition, when you leave the Air Force, there is an abundance of job opportunities on the outside and pays very well dependent on what methods you get certified in and of course location. Very good video, it sure beat the AFSC book I read at the Recruiters office.....Hangar Clear....X-Raaaaaay Ooon!!
I’m just curious about the outside opportunities this job has? I have this job as my top on my job list along with aircraft E&E. But I’m just wondering about the civilian marketability for this job
Same. One of the jobs that’s on the forced list to put down. Following.
@@alexaguinaga432 You should google this.
I love NDI. Amazing career. Eddy current, ultrasonic, fluorescent penetrant, joint oil analysis program, x-ray, magnetic particle inspection, good times. We did have to deal with alot of bs tho. It's an important job and if you f up someone dies, no pressure. About that x-ray, if you see an NDI tech running in the opposite direction you should probably start running too.
What type of bs did you go through with this career field?
@@wonderz_808 due to being in aircraft maintenance, there can be a lot of bs. one example is being a late shift and you are called out to an aircraft job close to the time you are normally let out of work. Can't leave work now. Another is having 100 bolts to inspect for cracks using the magnetic particle unit and sweating the whole time. Then just regular military bs, having to listen to orders from a lazy manager who sits at a desk all day who is a few ranks higher than you.
I putted this job in my list, I know is an amazing job, but I am so afraid about those X rays and getting Cancer
@justauser3553 don't let that stop you. I do it now. Everyone wears devices that detect radiation and has a device on hand to tell them the radiation in the area.
Lol I’m NDI at Langley. Pensacola was definitely awesome during the warm weather. That white sand was something else
Any tips or advice for someone shipping off to basic in July with a NDI contract?
^^
NAS Pensacola was hot and humid. The training was great and so was the surroundings of different branches but the weather sucked. Dry heat and cold is what I enjoy.
@@shew239 dont get complacent on your work during lecture and lab. Take notes and make flash cards
Umming I got complacent failed block 3
, waited 2 weeks more.
From that my occupation location changed from me going to Utah to going to North Dakota.
Hey garret are you still doing NDI in the airforce? I am currently just looking for some more information since I’ll be going into the field as a reservist. I already spent 4 years in the marines active duty but in a different job.
Another incredible collaboration. This is one job that I've never heard of, and I love learning new things.
Thanks for that interview on this job. My son got NDI and was assigned to Yakota as his first duty station, been there 3 weeks. Was interesting hearing what he’ll be doing during his career. Sounds like a good job and a great base to work at. I was 68G20 airframe repair with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, I fixed bullet holes In Huey’s 😮‼️
Thank you for your service and that is super cool
Do you know what he scored on the asvab
Cool Video bro. My AFSC was 2A7X2 as well. Awesome career field, Gott and I actually went to tech school together March - May 2013. However when I got to my first duty station I got stuck at Holloman AFB for 5 years. Recently separated last year and doing NDI now in the civilian world here in Texas.
Jose Hernandez I signed an NDI contract and leave for BMT in July. Anything you wish you knew about the career field before you joined?
Jose Hernandez what kind of job can you get in the civilian world? Is it in airports?
@@shew239 sorry for the late reply however I will tell you right now that you picked a great career field, everything you need to know you will learn in tech school and then OJT once your assigned your first duty Station, only thing I recommend is make sure you have a good dream sheet when you apply for your 8 duty Stations in BMT.
@@mmontero15 Hi there, Sorry for the late response. There are tons of NDI jobs out here in the civilian world it just all depends on how much effort you put into looking for example; you can do NDI on Aerospace Aircraft, Oil Field, and Structural/Industrial Fabrication Metal. Here in the civilian world you can call "NDI" - NDT and NDE it's all the same thing just different terminology.
Thank you for the reply!
I’ve worked in NDE for the last 6.5 years as a level II in VT, MT, PT, UTT, CRT, and PMI. Speaking to my recruiter now but he’s telling me NDI isn’t open and is trying to hustle me into going into something else. So I’m going to speak to a different AF recruiter. It’s a fun field, if you’ve never done it, study study study so when you do the general, specific and practical for your level 2s, you’re set. It’s confusing and may seem difficult at first but it’s not once you become familiar with the processes and learn the code/procedure for each method. And you can make bank working for some companies. Phased Array I was working towards my level 2 hours in, it’ll eventually replace X-Ray one day. That’s the big ticket method to get your level 2 in. The company I worked for paid our level 2 PAUT guys $55/hour.
thanks for this comment
I’m doing ANG and I’m enlisting for this job super excited and nervous 😣 wish me luck guys !
how are you doing!
How'd it go!?
how is it ?! i really wanna do this in the ANG as well!
He probably didn't do it
I leave april 16 and got this job but had 0 clue on what exactly they do but this video helped alot
Congratulations, this is the #1 on list of jobs I gave my recruiter because I got an associates degree in NDI and have had a few civilian jobs doing NDI… I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. 🫡
Congrats, this is my number 3 job.
how's it going now?

Some info on physical medicine would be dope
This is something I would like to get into…hope I can get into the air force to do it
KYLE! Please do an interview with someone that has the AFSC 1W0X1
Thank you very informative 🙏🏽
Hey, I’m trying to learn the general orders but I can’t find the ones for the Air Force (if there even are any) I’ve accidentally memorized the army and navy ones cause I thought they were the same😂Can anyone help?
Do you have enough time to do school while working ?
Do you get weekends off doing this job? Trying to make my job list and that’s a must for me
All maintenance jobs cannot guarantee weekends off.
He's right about that, NDI has stand by = means you're on call if saber1 (maintenance super) calls you in for a job. It can be quick or very long, depends on the inspection. We have a schedule that rotates everyone in the NDI shop. I inspected numerous aircrafts f-15's, c-135's, c-130's, navy jets, hh-60's, etc. during my time on Kadena AFB. It's a very important job. You have to be confident in your inspections and decision making. Don't mess up or that could be someone's life, you know what I mean. It's a amazing career.
@@makkusu29 thank you for answering my question and thank you for your service. Just turned in my Job List and this was one of the Jobs on it.

👍💪😄
Is that the name of the job? Can you please explain
Does anyone recommended this job for a girl ? I guess a better question is, is it safe ? Or do you think women will be harassed ?
Thinking the same thing!!!!
Also I feel you’ll only be harassed if the men are insecure. Be safe
Yeah is really easy on the body, might have to get a little dirty sometimes depending on where the area of interest is on the aircraft.
Hi
What kind of jobs can I get in the civilian world with NDI experience?
Well first off u can look into a company called terricon they do non destructive testing on concrete they make a lot of money and also u can get Into the flight companies like Boeing and more to test planes
NDT Inspector by the time you’re done with a 3 year contract you should be able to get a job as a civilian making at least $30 per hr.
I’m in tech school for NDI right now
Its President how is it?
Curtis Jett it’s pretty cool stuff, it can be difficult at times, but that’s with any tech school. It’s also really nice in Pensacola
I'm looking at transferring into this career. Do you think you can give me some insight into the job?
How’s it so far I’m looking into it but I was wondering how the people are who do it
What do you think so far?
3e3x1
Does NDI also inspect the welds that are done on the aircraft ?
Yes they do
🤙🏾
Noners
Man that never gets old....... someone didn't score very well on their ASVAB...smells like a Crew Chief. It's NONNER
Do you even know what that means? You either have no idea or think that somehow NDI doesn't play a role in generating sorties.
What's YOUR specialty?
Nonners? B if I f up that could be a pilots life, we're kind of important. Just saiyan.
