    I'm raised in France and Sweden. And the biggest differences in style are the following:
    *French = Chic and timeless*
    *Swedish = trendy, accessible and avant-garde*

    I’m Norwegian and I would say a well-fitting pair of blue jeans, plus a classic wool winter coat and well-made quality everyday boots would be the must- haves in here Oslo. I think the Scandinavian must-haves in this video are more relevant for teenagers and people in their early twenties. When you pass 25 your priorities change.

      Yes, in trondheim it is kinda the same. My go-to's in summer are a nice pair of shorts, flowy wideleg trousers, a denim skirt, and matched with a nice singlet, a flowy cropped shirt, and a t-shirt. In fall/winter I love to wear high waisted jeans with sweaters of every colour

      I'm from Finland and to me her tips also seem like a trendy twenty something tips, than something.... eh, stylish? Of course, people in Stockholm have different style taste as me. I'd never ever put on those things! What she's telling about French style makes sense to me though.

    Lucky to have lived in both countries...I think one factor makes Scandinavian style unique is that they’re TALL!!! So they can pull off the Acne Studio kinda look really well, which can look really frumpy if you don’t have the height and bone structure.

    Great video! As a Scandi myself I think in general people dress very practical here. We need shoes that don't get ruined in a puddle and a coat that can protect us from the rain.

    I'm Swedish and I live in Stockholm, and I've always felt weird about the compulsion to change style every single year. It's like people don't have any actual personal opinions, they just follow whatever is on fashion at that point. I guess I'm more French in that sense, I really like the thought of finding what fits me, and go for that. I feel a lot freer in that, I don't have to get something new just because a magazine told me my best trousers are no longer "in". Besides, if you want to try to get away from fast fashion, it's kind of impossible to change your style several times a year.
    And another thing: Justine, where is your petrol blue coat from? It is fantastic! I've been looking for one like that for ages. :)

    • @justineleconte
      @justineleconte  6 лет назад +38

      my coat is from Comptoir des Cotonniers (from a year when that color was everywhere - right now it is almost impossible to find)

      I think all the French style is about '' how to forget fashion '' that's why timeless clothes are our preferred

    • @jaydeo7850
      @jaydeo7850 5 лет назад +4

      America is the like that too. I like timeless pieces, but I also really like black, silver, and pastels lol. I don't care if something is on trend or not, but once in a while I'll follow a trend that I really do like the aesthetic of.

      *The more secure people are the more they dress for themselves and not to fit into a group.*
      You see one item on a few people and the following two weeks every other female is wearing the exact same item. It’s almost as if they worry they will be pushed out of their social circle if they don’t obey the current fashion trend.
      I find this extra interesting when discussing fashion and so many express they dress in clothes they don’t like because it’s what you are ”suppose” to wear, and not what they genuinly feel like wearing.
      Why live for strangers when it’s your money you spend and the items go on your own body?!
      Work on meeting those who are insecure and take the right to critique your fashion decisions. And I know so much what you speak of since I grew up in central Stockholm.

    I'm Swedish but I like the french style more, and how they think. I don't follow trends, I just try to find pieces that look good on me and that I can wear for a long time.

    I'm from Finland and I agree with all the Scandinavian "facts" beside the trench. If I'd have to name a third wardrobe essential, it would maybe be a leather jacket or a padded coat.

    • @rhoeasie
      @rhoeasie 6 лет назад +31

      Yeah I'm Finnish too and I can't really think of a season when we could wear a trench coat! It's always either too cold or too hot. I now live in the UK and I've just started wearing my thin coat (not a trench coat but similar fabric), and I will get a couple of month's wear out of it this season

      As a Norwegian I have to agree, from spring until late summer/early fall, it's usually a leather jacket or at least cropped jackets, and for the winter it's usually a padded coat. I also disagree about the jewelry, I rarely see Norwegian women with lots of it..

    Light beige trench coat brings up memories from my childhood in Finland, when during 1st of May celebrations everyone was wearing it, with our student hat, serpentine around the neck and bottle of sparkling in one hand and balloon in the other. It was like a style nightmare to me!

    I'm Flemish, Belgian. I would consider my style more French. I also find it funny that of all people Scandinavian people, known for their environmentally progressive ideas, could hold such a consumeristic view on fashion in going for trendy. Guess nobody's perfect! Interesting video.

      Me, too! :) Especially about the jewelry, I hardly ever buy myself any, but instead get them as gifts or buy them on "special occasions" like on vacation, so everything has sentimental value.
      The only scandinavian youtuber I follow is Signe from Use Less, she's Danish and all about capsule wardrobes, sustainability while still staying chique. She mixes french and scandinavian style pretty well I think :)

    • @naamahnotorious955

      Oh, it wasn't meant as judgment, a girl loves what a girl loves. It was just very unexpected. Most Scandinavians I know (mostly Finnish I'll admit) seem so functional and down to earth that I just can't seem to picture them as trying to follow trends.

      a finn popping in here. i barely own any trendy pieces, or if i do, ive liked them so much that ive worn them a few seasons. and i also skip many trends. im finding myself going towards the more classic and simple pieces. went to stockholm a few weeks ago and a lot of the people seemed to be very on trend. a lot more than in finland imo. maybe we arent as trendy as people in sweden :-) then again everyones different, im sure we can find both types in both countries.

While watching this I was bemused; my sister and I and 2.5 yrs apart; I fall down firmly on the French side, except for heels because of back problems, while my sis would easily fit into Scandinavian style. In fact I, who am not always aware of fashion trends, can guess what they are just by looking at how my sis is dressing or wearing her hair. Fascinating!!!!

    Great video with 2 adorable ladies ❤️Years ago when I was an architecture student living in the hipster side of the city , I tried quite hard to create a Scandinavian look, a cool look. As time went by I became more and more fascinated by the French style , something more timeless,feminine, subtle and elegant. This shift in style has in many ways changed the way I feel about myself .

  • @Helen-xv7ot

    Although I am three times more Scandinavian than French, I have to say I follow the French style on each if the ten topics that you discussed. 😏

    Love this and so on point on the Scandinavian style. Just one comment, Finnish women(many) do have a love for strong colours, that difference them from the rest of the Scandinavian women. You can see this especially on big occasion, like weddings, Christmas celebration and so on.. Now I'm of to part 2.. Hugs & sunshine 🌞 N Ps.Hope you had a beautiful Easter J! 🐣 "Glad Påsk!" 🐤 "Hyvää Pääsiäistä!" 🐥

    • @orangetee9737
      @orangetee9737 6 лет назад +8

      Well, that's probably because Finland isn't a part of Scandinavia, so Finnish women are not "scandinavian". ;) (Nordic, but not Scandinavian.) But yeah, we do seem to love colour a bit more - colour and prints.

    • @sunshinesilverarrow5292
      @sunshinesilverarrow5292 6 лет назад +4

      Orange Tee True, but the north west part of Finland is a part of the Scandinavian peninsula, but yes you are right! (Nordic and Scandinavian, two separate things..😊) I love the fact that the finnish women are so brave with there choice of colour and prints, tells a lot about the woman.. strong and unique 😘 Halaus ja auringonpaittetta🌞N

      I can't think of one Finnish woman who would usually wear strong colours - except my own mother and a couple of middle aged teachers.

      Finland isn’t in Scandinavia:) I agree, you can see a bit more of an eastern european influence in finish fashion.

    • @cadaver6665
      @cadaver6665 6 лет назад +5

      Julia Wincent Totally different to what East Europeans tend to wear these days though. Most Finnish women don't like things overly feminine or sexy, we tend to go for the odd trends more than I've seen elsewhere in Europe. For the most part East Europeans are very feminine, romantic dressers.

    As I was doing a bit of spring cleaning through my closet I realised a lot my clothes are from Scandi brands (Swedish or Danish). I find their oversized stuff very comfy and effortless (but still paired up with super skinny Nudies :). But I tend to style those pieces the French way, because I absolutely hate bringing too much attention to myself haha...

    • @yyvette
      @yyvette 6 лет назад +3

      Rahmi what are some good Scandinavian brands?

    • @nerdonthepayroll
      @nerdonthepayroll 6 лет назад

      Filippa K and Acne gets mentioned here (UK) a lot. I have some modal & cotton basics from Samsoe & Samsoe, dresses from Monki and denim items from Cheap Monday. All my clothes are affordable (for a student's budget), but they last if you wash them properly. Nudie jeans are very high quality, but they don't really suit my tiny Asian frame. I bought one, which I had to alter, years ago and they've aged better than any jeans I ever owned. I bought a few chunky wool jumpers in Stockholm years ago. They have that traditional Swedish/Scandi pattern (looks like a Christmas jumper). They've became my fav jumpers. Unfortunately I cut off the tags, but it was just a local store so it might have been an unknown brand anyway. Scotland makes similar items and they're relatively cheaper, but still of good quality.
