    Thanks for the update! We use the R2 Single Pin trigger in the hot shoe and keep the X Pro on a lanyard for actual power changes. By the way, if you have any clout with Godox, ask them to add a button that toggles all flashes off/on. Nice shortcut for ambient shots. Thanks again!

    Thank you for making this video! I never had this problem with the first generation X Pro N, because so far I had only used it with the Z9, which allows you to control the WYSISWYG aspect of the viewfinder even with a known flash attached. After watching this video I tested the X Pro N on my Z6II and Zfc, and as you reported you can't force the viewfinder to show ambient exposure. Good to be aware of this limitation. Thank you also for your reporting on the new locking mechanism, definitely looks like a deal breaker. You just saved me 120 euros!

    Your first video about the AWB issue with Godox triggers popped up in my recommended and you have finally solved my internal mystery of why I felt like I've been struggling with AWB ever since I switched to using Godox/Flashpoint. I never imagined that the trigger itself was causing it!
    I think I may give this updated trigger a look, but as a stopgap and to save some money I have a TT350o that I bought for my Panasonic LX-100 that I can use as a commander on my Nikons to get around the "SB-900" issue. Only problems are I only get 3 groups and can't go below 1/128 using the mini flash as a commander.
    While disappointing that this was the issue all along, thank you for the information and helping me finally solve this internal mystery!

    I ground down all the pins except for the center, works great. I have the R2 mk2 that you say you don't recommend, but it is inexpensive, small, and easy to use. The quarter turn lock works well on all my Canons, in fact I prefer it. My speedlights have the screw down locks which like to jam.

    Have been playing around with one of these. Need to have a look at that hotshoe setting as am getting colour balance issues. Find the system (combined with x1r to control 580exii 's) to be a bit awkward to use. You have to get the flashgun settings absolutely right or it will not remote command the flash power settings, and will sometimes not fire at all. The other issue, is that the angle of the screen can also sometimes be difficult to read when the camera is on the tripod.

    Very good review Nathan, thanks for this video. I have a question - I am assisting a couple of photographers that use the XPro I, and they are not yet too confident in setting the power for the external flash that I am handling. Therefore, I am constantly telling them what setting do they need for my flash. Is there a way for this trigger to override power setting communication so that I may manually set the external flash and keep it in that setting, even if the power setting on the XPro is different ? In other words, I want the flash power setting override the trigger power setting.

    Hi All; I tried all three methods on my Canon 6D mark ii and isolating the center pin is very inconsistent. I think it doesn't like to work with Live View. So I find that I have to turn live view on and off with my cam-ranger to get a look and then shoot. I hear that Canon is guilty of trying to force their customers to use proprietary flash equipment. Making it difficult to use the Vintage mode. I might just keep a cheat sheet on the color values for manual WB. Any other Canon users find a work-around for this issue?

Got a xt32 trigger and that one is universal works with all flashes new and old, you control power setting, modeling and sound. Nathan, Have you tested the Godox X2T- trigger for colour shift? I was hoping that I could mount a flash on top of it for smaller rooms/houses which would save lugging around a AD 200 on a stand. The new bluetooth smart phone connection would allow hand held flash release and adjustments which would be great.
    If they have corrected the colour balance issue, I could uses a Panasonic branded trigger paired with my G-9. It would save me the extra height and "wobble" associated with the extra hot shoe isolating adapter I uses to prevent colour shift with my current X-Pro1 trigger.
    It has the same new lock down mechanism which if it isn't snug would ruin my plan?

    Now, about that hotshoe splitter...LOL! Does that allow you to use the Yongnuo as a camera trigger and the Xpro at the same time since you can't stack them? Update: My X2Tc started acting funny after a few years of work. Basically, it would randomly decide to change channels or IDs and wouldn't fire the flash when using the test button. All in all I upgraded to the XPro2 for the Nikon and really do love it! The bulk took a bit to get used to, but it's not that much and I get to read the display easier compared to a X2T display. The hot shoe fit isn't a problem with my gear, thankfully.

    Nathan I just checked on my Z9 re: the WYSIWYG issue. Z9 has custom setting D10 View Mode -> Show Effects Of Settings -> Always option (instead of "Only when flash is used"). That stops the live view from going to 'adjust for ease of viewing' whenever the flash is turned on. It's not a Godox issue - it also happens with a genuine Nikon speedlight.
    Hopefully the other camera bodies have this custom option.

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  10 месяцев назад

      That's great! Although that won't stop the AWB issue. Also, if you're going with a newer camera like the Z9, then the newer Godox trigger would be a very small add-on investment, allowing you to use its new legacy-hotshoe option for any circumstance where you don't want to the trigger to interfere with the camera's intelligence.

    Hey Nathan. Got this trigger and loving it.. I love using the app to change the strobes power when away from the camera (hiding in another room) etc. I am having an issue with this legacy mode that my over 1/160 shutter speed, my shutter is partially blocking the shot. Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks in advance

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  Год назад +2

      This sometimes happens when either your camera is not truly closing shutter at synch speed, or there is a delay between the, camera-to-trigger and/or trigger-to-lights. If you have an older camera that has a synch speed at 1/200 sec., then it could be possible that it drags slightly, thus you see the best results at a slower shutter (1/160). This also happens when batteries are getting low in the trigger and/or lights. Also, if you are using rechargeable batteries in the trigger then try swapping them out with regular batteries and see if that helps as well.

      You're very welcome. In their manual they recommend alkaline batteries, likely because the trigger is sensitive to the difference in voltage. Most rechargeable batteries have a slightly lower voltage then standard alkaline batteries, so it's like having a constantly low battery in the trigger, causing the lag with shutter sync.

    Thank you, Nathan, I really enjoy your videos. I have a Sony A77II and with the old Godox XPro trigger I have had the AWB issues you have described. The Wysiwyg has not been a problem since with "setting effect on" I can see a bright image (as it would be shot with a flash) and then see added ambient as I change the exposure. I tried the pin isolation but then the camera no longer recognized the flash and the "setting effect" no longer worked (or alternatively if I turn setting effect off the Wysiwyg no longer works). I just received the new Godox XProIIS trigger and it seems I have the same problem: The setting effect does not work if I switch to legacy hotshoe and the screen is dark at normal flash shutter speeds. Do you have any ideas? Thank you! (by the way, the plastic lock seems to fit my camera hot shoe, no wobbling so far)

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  Год назад

      I think you might be doing "Setting Effect" backward. On=WYSIWYG, while OFF=See bright image assuming flash will fire. Make sure "Setting Effect" is set to On, and that the XProIIS has "Legacy Hotshoe" enabled.

    • @wiebkemartens
      @wiebkemartens Год назад +1

      @@NathanCoolPhoto Thanks so much for your reply! With setting effect set to On and "legacy hotshoe" enabled the live view does indeed get brighter or darker if I change the exposure. But at say 1/125 in a darkish room the live view is all black. If I turn "legacy hotshoe" off however, and setting effect On then the baseline image in live view is bright and once I increase ambient sufficiently that it is right of center on the histogram, then it gets brighter with increasing ambient (which is ideal, because I can see the image to frame it and also decide what shutter speed I need to get a good ambient). It looks like I will have to switch back and forth between legacy hotshoe on and off to get the right AWB and a useable Liveview....

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  Год назад

      That is expected behavior for the flambient workflow (using "Setting Effect" to ON, and enabling "Legacy Hotshoe"). For the flambient workflow you want to expose ambient for ETTR on the histo , but then, like you were saying with the faster shutter speed, you also need to see where ambient falls off before taking the flashed shot; thus, WYSIWYG in both cases (and for other footage), but they are just handled differently. This though is exactly what you want to see, but I'm not sure if you're familiar with the workflow that shows this step by step (and why), so would like to suggest taking a look at my online course that shows this in great details, here's a link if you want to check that out: prointeriors.nathancool.com

    Your video did me a huge favour in a different way. The Canon mirrorless cameras usually turn off Exposure Simulation when you attach a trigger and turn it on. After watching your video I thought I'd try my relatively new R7 with a hotshoe adapter I'd bought which is designed to let legacy flashes work with Canon's new digital multifunction hotshoe. I thought I'd try the trigger without first and then with the adapter.
    The new Canon hotshoe leaves Exposure Simulation on, even when attaching and turning on a Godox X-ProC trigger. The crazy thing is that with the adapter, Exposure Simulation is turned off, as per usual. So it appears Canon has fixed this issue with the new hotshoe itself.
    It's not just Godox. Most, if not all triggers usually turn off Exposure Simulation. I'm guessing it's because in a dark studio environment you would see nothing if you had Exposure Simulation turned on at shooting settings.

      I hear ya, but I still use Godox. For the price and reliability it's worth fiddling with a few nits like this, and any "smart" trigger will cause these issues (Godox isn't alone here). I know it's frustrating, but all you need to do is just isolate the center pin on an xPro trigger and you're set. It sort of puts me off Godox altogether, including their AD200Pro, and makes me wonder if there's another vendor solution that simply works. Hi Nathan! Congrats on your channel! This is the first time I write you in comments, and I’m quite desperate. The thing is I shoot sony with a V1 + xpro Godox setup for real estate. I’ve been encountering the same issue since I bought them. I shoot a bracketing (5) and then I switch on the trigger and shoot a flash shot. Every time I do so my f number gets changed randomly without me doing anything. I checked everywhere and updated firmware but never got any different results. What could be causing that? Thanks a lot! Maybe any sony users have a solution! ❤

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  Год назад +1

      Thanks! But there's a lot you are doing wrong...no need for ambient brackets, and it's likely you have some kind of auto mode (shutter priority possibly) that is changing your aperture. I'd recommend downloading my interiors e-book which covers some of these basics, here's a link if you'd like to check that out: amzn.to/41hi6Bu

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  Год назад

      In that case then there is only one thing that could be happening: Your camera is detecting a flash device in the hotshoe (i.e., your trigger), and since you are shooting a bracket, the camera is changing the aperture, since shutter speed doesn't have any effect on the amount of flashed light received by the sensor. My suggestion is be twofold: (1) do not shoot in brackets, there is no need to. This will ensure aperture doesn't change. (2) Use the single-pin isolation mode I talk about in this video by using the new trigger and enabling "Legacy Hotshoe" in the menu.

    Morning Nathan. A great video, I'm glad you did it. I saw Godox answering a question on either Twitter or Instagram yesterday about this new trigger, and basically not giving the person any real info at all. It's a shame that Godox who has changed the photographic industry in terms of gear that the normal person can afford.... decides to cheap out with what looks like a garage upgrade. If not for your video, I don't think many would know all the bad "updated" changes. Yup, those buttons not being aligned, the locking mechanism, and for me, the kicker - their continued use of what looks like 1970s LCD panel display. Let's be honest, it's terrible. This "upgrade" is nothing more than a firmware update for the flash pins, and they are trying to sell it as a brand new product. I'd like to see a better product from them in the future. 🚨 ⚠BTW, you didn't mention the battery meter ⚠ - this is the #1 complaint on all the photographic board with the Godox devices... the battery level indicator is just wrong all-the-time. I'm willing to bet this has not been corrected. Throw in brand new rechargeable batteries and it doesn't show a full charge. - IF this hasn't been fixed, it truly shows they just want to get another new version of this thing out there. It's a like a fast food joint ... they sell a hamburger... oh... how can we create yet another "new " version of this ? ah ! we'll add cheese and bingo, we now have a new item to sell. Anyway, great video. You are a great instructor ! - you never assume a viewer knows something, and you show us all the steps - and THAT is the mark of a good instructor. If I punch the flash button on the trigger, the 600 will flash at full power, then ONE shutter flash, then nothing. The vendor swears it's the xPlore 600 and I should upgrade the firmware.... I'd have to agree, I think it's likely the firmware version of the XPLR600. Like you said it works with an "older" trigger, not the "new" one, so the first thing to try is to upgrade the firmware and see if that fixes it.

    Sony does have a center pin and uses it to trigger the flash… you showed a picture of it. Why use AWB when using flash? Just set the WB to flash or a manual K. I’m not sure about other bands, but Sony has a setting to disable the flash preview so that you can view the ambient. Also goldox sells a center pin only flash for like $25 at adorama which is fully compatible (but no HSS) with all the godox wireless flashes.

I am now using my old X1T until Godox makes a better hotshoe or revert to the screw lock design. Sure the extra controls and features are nice, but do you really need them all? But there was another issue. I'd like to tell you about it. Maybe it will be helpful for someone. I take pictures with a Canon 5D Mark II camera, using the X2T trigger for Canon cameras. I have two flashbulbs: Godox AD200 PRO and Canon Speedlite 580EX II (it works through the receiver: Godox X1 RC). Apart from the problem with white balance, this set works without problems. The minimum flash sync speed is 1/200 sec. After replacing the original trigger with a Fuji compatible one, the Canon Speedlite 580EX II flash now has a minimum shutter speed of 1/100 second. The Godox AD200 PRO flash continues to work as before, with a shutter speed of 1/200 sec. The same effect can be seen if all contacts except for the central one are blocked in the trigger for a Canon. Everything works the same way on the Canon 90D camera as well.

      You're very welcome! The problem you're seeing is due to "trigger-lag": a delay in the signal through an adapter, in this case the X1 RC you're using on your Canon speedlight. In the old days when one would have to use Pocket Wizards or Cactus triggers since most lights didn't have built-in triggers, trigger-lag was common, so you'd be lucky to get 1/160 sec to work without shutter curtain.
