@Drew Binsky welcome to Greece. With all respect to you, the title of your video is not fair. You create wrong impressions to your subscribers about Greece. Yes, Santorini is a Greek island with high prices but don't forget that Santorini is one of the most famous destinations worldwide like Ibiza (Spain), Paris, London, NY etc...I don't think the prices in a good restaurant in Manhattan will be better than Santorini!
I’m born and raised in NY and I’m so proud my parents brought me to Greece every year as a child. On my mom's side, even though she was a Bronx girl, her mom (my Yiayia) was from a small village near Perista, called Platanos. I've been there many times, and adore them! Hello, Greek here. I love your channel. Santorini is one of Greece's most, if not the most, expensive island. The cheapest time of the year to visit Santorini is in winter. You will not swim (because of the cold) but will find affordable flights, rooms to rent, etc. (also, u will have a better chance to see one of the most beautiful sunsets of your life). You will find numerous places you can visit with lower prices and the same Greek philoxenia. By law, the 500ml bottle of water costs 0.5 euro in Greece max everywhere. We have some of the cleanest drinkable water in Europe (except for some places that don’t take water from the main line).
Thanks for the spectacular views, as this is the only way I'll ever experience such lavishness. I was in Greece 1985-86 and enjoyed Mikonos as you did, except for the morning after. We had so many drinks I had never heard of! Hydra is my favorite island personally. Love your channel!
As a Greek i must say that Santorini is just stunning, i think it's affordable for an American but not affordable for a Greek. There are thousands of other places in Greece with high quality service, beaches, accommodation and food but in much more affordable prices especially in northern and western Greece
I booked Santorini for a week in November, way cheaper than now because it is off season - got a three star for $40 a night! Cheap flight from Athens - weather is still good, no tourists = paradise! Of course Drew was spending like crazy for a special occasion for two but normally I can do a Greek Island for a week for $500, all in. Most people spend way too much, because they lack flexibility or they don't do the research. Trust me, most people overpay 70-80%. I can say this with confidence because I have been travelling almost non-stop for 5 years as I go for 100 countries - I HAVE to keep my costs reasonable.
I Agree with you. Most people overpay. But when you infrom you befor you start the trip, you can defintly dont over pay. Yes I can definitely see that Greece isn't one of his favorite countries. I mean uploading one video that focuses on how expensive Santorini is... Well I find it overwhelmingly negative especially when you choose to visit Santorini as a luxury destination. I liked most of his videos I have watched, but the fact that he has never uploaded anything else for this country other than this... Especially when this is a country that has so so many places to visit with so much culture, heritage, history etc.. has definitely put me off him and I have unsubscibed. Nice video! Most restaurants in mainland Greece offer free water if you ask for tap water, but at the islands tap water is undrinkable. The standard 500ml bottle of water costs 0,5€, or cheaper in supermarkets.
There are 200 inhabited greek islands and you've been to the 2 more touristy and expensive!!! I'm greek I've been to more than 30 greek islands (not Santorini or Mykonos) and never even seen prices like these....

Wonderful way to experience greece, but it would have been fun for ypu to get some street food like souvlaki or gyros as well, much cheaper and more delicious than the really luxury stuff
Hey Drew Santorini is good for a quick visit (made for tourists like Athens) but if you really want to try proper Greek food and life there are so many more awesome islands way better than Santorini and also Thessaloniki and its outskirts have got some great authentic Greek you could ever have. Try and get to some villages if you can.
I got really super lucky during the pandemic in 2021. What I paid now for 6 days was under 2k there. Now it's quadruple now. I suggest people stay at a nice place for 1-2 days in Oia then move to a cheaper location for the rest of the week. That's what we did.
What the guy was saying that living there is bad makes sense. When living you need to look at real life stuff like school, hospitals, job pportunities etc. Obviously tourist don't care for that
You should definitely visit next time the island thasos in greece, Its not that expensive, The Beaches are great the people the food, the streets and our culture in general. Love from greece!
Santorini is, price-wise, the San Francisco of Greece. Everything is ultra expensive there. Thr kind of pkace where a schoolteacher or a community doctor coming from the rest of the country would not be able to afford rent.
if anyone here find a meal in a restaurant with an absolutely unique view in the world first seat in Caldera infront of Aegean sea with fresh fish with shrimps salads drinks etc for 2 persons expensive at 85 dollars then you guys write to me how this same meal cost in your local restaurant in your country.
Santorini is completely different from the rest of the country from my experience. You can normally get a skewer of souvlaki, greek salad and rice for a very reasonable price. I would like to see if you travelled in your normal fashion outside of Santorini, you're going to quickly show the people that Greece is far cheaper than the rest of Europe.
Some islands in Greece are very touristic and pretty expensive...but when the majority of tourists go there....it is obvious that it will be kind like that...However..there are so many other places and islands that are not than well known , and there you can feel the authentic greek culture and soul...with much less money...Over all Greece remains cheaper than other touristic mediterranean countries like Italy, Spain and France .
As a Greek is sad to see a lot of toutrists going to the most popular and the most expensive islands and not going to mainland Greece to explore so many hidden gems that are everywhere in Greece even in the mountains. Also Greece is beautiful even in the winter where you can go skiing when it have snowed in the skiing resorts.
I went there and they tried to lift my wallet 3 times. It was always on the subway. Especially when you get on and get off. Once three guys working together tried to position me in a crowded subway. Always done by non Greeks.
Seems that Santorini is by far the most expensive island. We went to Corfu few months ago and apart form car rental, the prices were very reasonable.... Same with Rhodes last year
That’s true. But Myconos is even more expensive. All the islands of Greece, that are inhabited, are great to visit. Car rentals, in summer, is ridiculous expensive, because of high demand. Motorbikes are less cheaper, although they are a bit dangerous.
There are MANY other gorgeous Greek isles worth mentioning, that are less expensive than the very touristy Mykonos and Santorini. Check out Paros, Naxos, Chios, Milos,Kos, etc. There are many high speed ferries that leave from Piraeus (Athens) almost daily, and you can get to many of these islands in just a few hours. Many flights too, and if you book them in advance, tickets can be had for much cheaper rates.
We are now in Santorini 4 people because of our wedding and its better to bought it all with a breakfast. If you are going to eat in Fira or Oia ofc it will be much more expansive because of this view’s, but if you walk a little down you can have a food for 10-15€ . So don’t be afraid and go here to visit it it’s for the one time in life so what 😊
we visit Santorini twice a year, and whilst our accommodation is very expensive with luxury villas etc, the food isnt anywhere near as much as shown here!! We stay in Pyrgos, but eat all over the Island. To Psaraki is our favourite fish restaurant on the island. Amoudi Bay is too touristy now that covid is basically over. I can only imagine you guys paid a massive premium to eat in and around Oia.
Actually you went to the most expensive and touristy part of Greece which makes the greek experience less authentic. This place is not representative on what prices in Greece are like and also there are lots of other great places that not many people know about. I hope you had a great time though Greetings from Athens!
As people mention before rightfully so, Greece is not Santorini or Mikonos. Both of them are marvelous, but obnoxiously expensive. I'm not gonna suggest islands to visit, because all of them have something unique. But I highly recommend Thessaloniki. Full of nice places to visit and also rich in Sephardic Jewish history. Love your content!
Nice video but I think Santorin is relay the most expensive place in Greece 😬 The island of crete is kind of affordable. I'm form Germany and Greece is a good choice for a cheap vacation
I think Mykonos is the most expensive. Although i am from Greece i have never been in any of those two islands. There are so many beautiful and cheap choices for vacation in Greece.
@@stfu7798 definitely man im also from greece and those islands are definitely the most expensive people usually go to those really popular islands with alot of tourism and then complain about our country being expensive there are many other hidden gems in country
there are many more places in greece you can visit that are just as beautiful as santorini without happing to pay as much if you want the feel of a bustling city you could visit thessaloniki the second biggest city in greece while for island chalkidiki is also very nice its essentially just as amazing as santorini without being as expensive
Jesus 225$ dinner! Not cheap, but your wife looked awesome I must say! :) One could spend less there for sure but the reality is that Santorini it's a very expensive island!
Santorini and Mykonos are mainly tourist traps nowadays. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and head towards other islands or seaside places in the mainland. (From a native Greek).
Drew I love your stuff, but you need to do Greece properly. You need to try visiting: Volos and Pelion peninsula, Meteora, Kastoria, Thessaloniki, Verginia, Edessa, Kavala, Halkidiki, Messina and Lakonia, Nafplion, Corfu, Antipaxos, Epirus region, Crete, Milos, Rhodes etc.
Santorini after Mykonos is the most expensive place in Greece, You can always make a small research to visit other islands in Greece affordable for everyone.
I’m a Greek, I get why you decided to go there, never personally been there, but I think it’s safe to say it’s one of the most expensive places in Greece lol..

SSSOO much fun & so cheap then (15$ a night Cnd; $5 per meal ) we took the ferries between the islands. great adventure.... I think we spent 500$ total in 3 weeks (not including airfare from Ottawa (Canada) which was 385$)
Wow beautiful content 🤩
Last week I was in Zakinthos, and it is the shoulder season. Prices wasn’t bad if u avoid more tourists areas then u can find cheap food etc. beauty island and Airbnb wasn’t too bad
Good thing there's this video that can show us this expensive experience.
We appreciate how drew spends so much money for us
I been to Greece a number of times when me, my parents and sister went in the 90s it was fairly cheap on a few islands ,
Beautiful place.
Love this Video, Sir Drew.. I wish to bring my Wife there in Santorini someday! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Wonderful way to experience greece, but it would have been fun for ypu to get some street food like souvlaki or gyros as well, much cheaper and more delicious than the really luxury stuff
Free wáter is available in Europe, especially in France.
You should visit rural Greece to see true Greece
Hey drew! I think a cool video for you to do would be the longest way to travel via train which is from Portugal to Singapore!
Hey Drew Santorini is good for a quick visit (made for tourists like Athens) but if you really want to try proper Greek food and life there are so many more awesome islands way better than Santorini and also Thessaloniki and its outskirts have got some great authentic Greek you could ever have. Try and get to some villages if you can.
thats insane when I was in Santoini in October 2023 only cost me 750 CAD for three days and I got to see the whole island!
You should've gone to Ios, which is just north of Santorini. That island is awesome, and for a fraction of the price of Santorini.
if anyone here find a meal in a restaurant with an absolutely unique view in the world first seat in Caldera infront of Aegean sea with fresh fish with shrimps salads drinks etc for 2 persons expensive at 85 dollars then you guys write to me how this same meal cost in your local restaurant in your country.
Especially for two days, with less than half the money you spent you could have gone ton Crete and have double the fan.Even for more days.
Omg thanks so much for doing it I can believe it but can you visit antiparos?
You can go to Shisha places in Athens, where Shisha is like 6 euros at most, and it's the normal, these are basically Santorini prices.
Lmaooo I was at that exact same shisha spot! Go down to Thera and there's a hookah lounge waaay cheaper and better there!
I went to santorini july last year and spent much less than drew. new york, hawaii are also expensive, its just depend on how you do the trip.
I been to Greece a number of times, but never been to Santorini
Finally in Greece 🇬🇷
Finally Greece!!!
Are the private boats rentable for the whole day?
So don’t be afraid and go here to visit it it’s for the one time in life so what 😊
I went to athens, crete, and santorini this summer it was awesome
we visit Santorini twice a year, and whilst our accommodation is very expensive with luxury villas etc, the food isnt anywhere near as much as shown here!!
I hope you had a great time though
Greetings from Athens!
The prices are outrageous.
Positano, Italy is the exact same, beautiful but felt like a scam
We were recently in Santorini for a couple days in August
We were staying at the exact same part of the island and for a matter of fact we stayed in the hotel next to your hotel
there are many more places in greece you can visit that are just as beautiful as santorini without happing to pay as much if you want the feel of a bustling city you could visit thessaloniki the second biggest city in greece while for island chalkidiki is also very nice its essentially just as amazing as santorini without being as expensive
Hey I was wondering are you going to do the Snia Peninsula?
9:45 that's the most Greek thing in the video
Jesus 225$ dinner! Not cheap, but your wife looked awesome I must say! :)
One could spend less there for sure but the reality is that Santorini it's a very expensive island!
I really liked the corn kid 🌽
Greece its not only the islands. Greeces's mainland like the regions of Macedonia and Thessaly have rich history, culture and folklore.
Well Drew, lucky we have you to show us these beautiful places
That's a 3 month salary for me
Santorini and Mykonos are mainly tourist traps nowadays. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and head towards other islands or seaside places in the mainland. (From a native Greek).
I live in kefalos. It is an island in Greece
You can spend a month on most of the other Greek islands with that money.
You should definitely visit Acropolis
Drew I love your stuff, but you need to do Greece properly.
You need to try visiting: Volos and Pelion peninsula, Meteora, Kastoria, Thessaloniki, Verginia, Edessa, Kavala, Halkidiki, Messina and Lakonia, Nafplion, Corfu, Antipaxos, Epirus region, Crete, Milos, Rhodes etc.
exactly
No, leave these places for us. Mass tourism is going to ruin them.
I’m Greek my fav is the salad it’s so good
I went this year and it was great
Santorini after Mykonos is the most expensive place in Greece, You can always make a small research to visit other islands in Greece affordable for everyone.
I’m a Greek, I get why you decided to go there, never personally been there, but I think it’s safe to say it’s one of the most expensive places in Greece lol..
I've been to Santorini in August
I like the part of eating corn .I thought it is found here in Africa but anywhere you can come across with it
