1976, A Luftansa flight from Istanbul to NewYork--I am 16, this song on the rent a headsets (pre-ipod) I hear this song for the first time...folks I am a womble for LIFE!!!!!! I am SOOOOOO Happy I found this song!!!! I won't forget that I am a WOMBLE!!!!
The philosophy of the Wombles has never been so relevant :) Been listening to their "Wombling Christmas" album, while hiking the hills. Great songs, all original, and all related to the environment. They deserve to be more famous.
It certainly is, and with a glam rock beat as well! The verses are especially good. I was very small when this came out, but I still remember it. Lucky me to have them as part of my childhood.
'Almighty, takes me back, Mum bought us the Top of the Pops 45 single with The Wombling Song on one side, this on the other... those halcyon days of innocence - sigh. Thanks for posting!
hahahah!!! i used to watch the wombles in the 90s, and just today sorting out my stuff in found the casette!! it includes this song plus a "dance mix" hahah, classic!
I had some wax figures of the Wombles in the 1970s: Tomsk, Orinocco, Wellington, Bungo, Tobermory, Madame Cholet and Great Uncle Bulgaria. Think I broke them or melted them. Anyway, I'm still a tightwad and recycle everything. I am most grateful to Bernard Cribbins, Elizabeth Beresford, Mike Batt and all the furry creatures in teaching me thriftiness and the value of a good tune! :D
I remember all of them! I loved Tot's TV. We watched all these at my grannys while my mum was at work during the summer. unfortunately in later years it was replaced by the rubbish on T.V. nowadays (ie Teletubbies, Tweenies etc
I'm sure I read somewhere that the Wombles spent more time in the singles charts in 1974 than any other act. Anyway, with such brilliant catchy stuff, they fully deserved it!
i was like their mega hugest fan when i was little i watched em after nursery on nickolodeon, i have teddies, tapes and books :D Haven't thrown them away, they are too loved to go into the loft aswell XD
I saw this once when I was a kid, once. Ever since randomly this song would pop into my head. I thought it was just a little song I made up or something. I typed remember you're a womble into youtube and to my surprise there actually was a song called remember you're a Womble. I must have been 2 or something. weird.
I'm a womble, tell your aunt there's a place in Liverpool where wombling is tolerated a little bit. They allow you to womble underground and overground, but alas it is not free anymore. If you can prove that you still make good use of things that you find, 10% is deducted from the charge.
I love this, and it's awesome cos now my daughter can see them too. And yeh, they're way better than the crap they have these days like the Teletubbies.
I am an American..thank God I traveled in the 70s that's how I found these beautiful guys...wow!! What class!

Remember You're A Womble was released as a single on 6th April 1974, incidentally the same day that Abba won the Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton.

ALL HAIL TO THE WOMBLES!!! (we are not worthy). Yeah i think it was a guy called Mike Batt who was the mastermind behind their pop career.
I saw this once when I was a kid, once. Ever since randomly this song would pop into my head. I thought it was just a little song I made up or something. I typed remember you're a womble into youtube and to my surprise there actually was a song called remember you're a Womble. I must have been 2 or something. weird.
22 people can't remember that they are wombles!
Mike Batt wrote the songs and sang lead vocals. Chris Spedding played guitar. I think Mike Batt's mum made the Womble outfits. Clever folks.
