I think the only way to militarily succeed is to turn the surface of Taiwan to nuclear rubble before sending its invasion army. The Communist party was stopped by the US navy at the time due to their lack of war ships. The Kuomintang had hope one day to reclaim back China. So the Kuomintang were from China, even now many of the people still have relatives in China.
All true but the majority of the population in Taiwan are descendants of the people who lived there for generations. Even a majority of the descendants of those who came here with the ROC government now define themselves as Taiwanese rather than Chinese.

The fact that it’s not diplomatically recognized by most other governments doesn’t change this fact. You can’t make something that exists disappear just by insisting and declaring it so. Some might find it interesting that up until 1945, the Communist Party of China officially supported Taiwan independence. Check it out, it’s there in the annals of CCP history (of course it’s been purged from the PRC’s history books, but you can find it elsewhere).
