Hi Gemma do you have a recipe for Lava Cake?
I've got a couple of that www.biggerbolderbaking.com/?s=lava+cake
Thank you.
Hi Gemma, what do you suggest for fruit cobblers?
I don't have cobbler recipes yes. But you can try my fruit crisps www.biggerbolderbaking.com/?s=crisp
Paradox : need molasses to make brown sugar and need brown sugar to make molasses
Chicken and egg question 😉Sometimes life gives you brown sugar, then you can make molasses. But somedays, you only got molasses, so you can make brown sugar!
You can use date syrup or carob syrup I moved to Tunisia from USA last January and we don't have brown sugar here a neighbor gave us carob syrup it works well 1 teaspoon per cup of sugar for light brown sugar 2 teaspoons for dark brown sugar
Exactly what I came to say 🤕
Thanks for the tip!
André Souza and also add ginger 😋😋
Fresh Pressed Sugarcane juice with Lemon and Ginger gives u an AMAZING TASTE .. It’s always available on street trucks in my City ..
when u just watched the diy brownsugar and it requires molasses and now molasses requires brownsugar.... lol 😂
Me: let's make cookies!
Recipe: brown sugar
Me: I can't find it, let's make it too
Recipe: needs molasses
Me: I can't find it either, let's make molasses too
Bigger Bolder Baking: use brown sugar to make molasses
Me: F*ck (In Italy it's almost impossible to find these ingredients)
I can feel you😂 because in here in Bangladesh brown sugar is not much available. Molasses or jaggery is available but little bit expensive. our traditional desserts are made with molasses. I was here to see if molasses had any substitute😂 and what I found out🤣
sounds like mexico also we dont have lemons we only have lines🤦🏻♀️
Me wants to make molasses:
Requirement = Molasses
this would be great, except in areas where its hard to find molasses its not easy to find dark sugar aswell...
Maybe try to find packed cane sugar. In my country its pretty common and is pretty cheap
@@aikosimanjaya5784 I use that too! But where I live it's kind of expensive
Ok so here’s the thing… I want to make brown sugar… but I need molasses to make brown sugar… and I need brown sugar to make molasses… you get what I’m sayin?
Yeah I think I do understand that
I know I’m a year late but brown sugar is $1 at the dollar store!!!! So if you ever have this problem again, there ya go haha
@@honey3280 Not where I live.
This is brilliant!! Thank you so much. Molasses is very expensive here in South Africa!
It can't be more expensive than regular sugar right?
It really seems to depend where you are from, the access and availability
Marlene Meyer I don’t find it expensive to get, I just never know where to find it? Any ideas?😅 can I buy it from Woolworth’s
Its very cheap here, they use for mixing animal feed
@@dafunnybunny7903 I'm in SÅ I get it from baking shops. Woolies doesn't have it.
Your channel is such a great HELP , not only in great recipes but also for the MANY substitutes you bring to us . Truly GOD bless you ❤️❤️ . As always thanks for uploading .
Even though molasses is easily available here in India, I think this is amazing. Good work, Gemma ☺
In case you need it in a pinch 😊
Samdiy07 I’ve never seen molasses where I live, can you tell me where you buy molasses from?
@@__pallavi__ Molasses is nothing else but jagree (gur) It is easily available in any shop as molasses (liquid form)
Samdiy07 I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in liquid form, but thank you so much! I’ll keep an eye out for the same next time :)

Thank you so much Gemma, I have been searching molases for ages but I coulden't find them anywhere now I will make It myself 💕
Hi Gem-ma!
this is a real winner as molasses is a once in a while ingredient, so it isn't always on our shopping list! This is perfect for the once in a while recipe!
thank you again!
You'll never know when you need it in a pinch
dont have brown sugar
brown sugar : white sugar + molasses
dont have molasses
molasses : brown sugar + other ingredients
aight. bye chocolate chip cookies. bye carrot cake. bye brownies.
Exactly my thoughts ☹️
Dude I swear that's su true
LOOOL I really want to make ginger cookies but molasses is the only think i don't have. I have dark brown sugar but this recipe requires cream of tartar which i dont have. So sad.
I live in italy and I can't find brown sugar and molasses either. As a substitute I use *whole* cane sugar (NOT regular cane sugar, which is texture-wise too similar to simple caster sugar), I suggest you give it a try. I hope this helped! 🤗
Right and I already started
Is there anything Gemma cant do??😂❤Thank you so muchh for this recipe!!
HI MS. GEMMA!!! YOU ARE MY OFFICIAL IRISH BAKING LADY. I APPRECIATE YOUR RECIPES. Im becoming a bigger bolder baker thanks to you

I didn’t know molasses and treacle were the same thing..
Could you edit your video title to include ‘treacle’.. May help someone like me..
I never heard about this but you made me know about Molasses Substitute. I never used this as an ingredient in any kind of recipe. Thanks you so much.
Btw, I have also Cooking Channel.!
Two days ago I was going to make Ginger snap and the recipe need Molasses but I haven't got in my cupboard so I was like 🙄 ! But now I can make it myself. Thank you Gemma 😚

It’s me again, just to let you guys know that I baked some oatmeal raisin cookies with this molasses substitute and it worked perfectly!
Thank you again, Gemma!
Well done to you, thanks for sharing !
And just when i was wondering where i was gonna get molasses from. Thank you!
yes yes yes~~ thank you soooo much for this recipe :)
Yey!! Thank you! Really helpful these videos!
Thanks for this great recipe. Since I'm avoiding sugar in my recipes, I substituted with allulose instead as it caramelizes. Unfortunately the color is more closer to clear than brown hehe. If I were to use a drop of food coloring, would I need to do it after caramelizing or mix with all the ingredients before cooking? thanks!
Thank you so much! I was just talking to a friend about how I can't find molasses anywhere!
By the way thankyou very much dear its such a great thing
Hi Gemma☺

Your channel is a godsend, Ms Gemma. There's a scarcity of molasses where I am right now because it seems everybody is making fruitcake. I used a variety of sugar called 'muscovado' for this and it actually tastes like molasses. Can't tell any difference.
Thanks for sharing!
thank You very much,!!! I finally found some really informative video, tried the other recipes, had no success, you speech is neither too fast nor too slow, very easy to follow You.
Your recipe is amazing and so simple :)

In my country Bangladesh molasses is very much available including rural area where is Brown sugar only we can get in urban area in a good super shop. But as always I love your recipe because in your recipe make things easy for us especially in your "Substitute Recipes" so that all the ingredients of any recipe are available for us and we can make any dish or food perfectly . Keep it up. :)
Thanks a million for being here!
I was excited to see that recipe since I haven't see any molasses available in stores in my town but when you named the ingredients I realized that this substitute is not available for me at all because cream of tartar is not available in my country and there's no real brown sugar as well, only this fake white sugar with added caramel to give it brown color. Is there any way to skip or subsitute cream of tartar with something else and use muscovado cane sugar instead of dark brown sugar?
You can use a little more lemon juice in place of the cream of tartar. And yes you can use muscovado sugar
@@biggerbolderbaking Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day!
Jane Weller try looking for sugar cane syrup or black honey (it’s sugar not honey)

I can find only light brown sugar near me, can I just use it to make the treacle? Or can I use muscovado sugar instead of dark brown?
You can absolutely use light brown sugar or muscovado sugar in this recipe www.biggerbolderbaking.com/molasses-substitute/
Great video Gemma 😍
Can this be used in recipes requiring black treacle?
Genius
Hi gemma, what do u think about making molases from sugar cane? Is there any additional product to put in? Thanks
I'm sorry but I don't have the process for it.
Hello, You used lightbrown sugar, I can buy Dark brown sugar in Holland.....What do you prefer?
I prefer the light brown sugar. The darker one could easily burn while being heated.
This is a really good molasses substitute
Sorry the cream of tar-tar is it that necessary because I can't find it anywhere and I'm not a fan of online ordering is there anything thing else I could use instead?
Hi Uchenna, You can leave out the cream of tartar and can add a little more lemon juice.
Gemma 🙂
Gemma, when I buy molasses, it's usually very thick. Does that mean it's been cooked longer or do you know if there's something else added to commercial molasses to give it the thick consistency?
Yes molasses is very thick because it has been cooked down. Best to read the labels of the molasses to check. But it should just be molasses as it is
Ok I am happy is working so good👍
Good to hear! Well done to you!
Fantastic 👌
I love you VIDEO Gemma especially your mircowave mug meal ❤❤❤😁😁😁

Gemma,
How long will this keep on the shelf? Can it be canned?
It will last 3-4 months in an airtight container at room temperature. I reckon it will last longer when canned, but I am not so sure about how to go about that.
love ittt
can i caramelize the white suger then adding water , tartare cream & lemon juice
In Portuguese cuisine they have different names for the specific states of sugar. I think that this would be the tear point after the string point.
Hi gemma, if i make this molasses to make brown sugar, can i re-melt the newly made brown sugar to make more molasses? I hope you understand what i mean
Chicken and egg! I don't see why not! You might be caught in a pickle sometime and do this 😉
Actually i wanted molasses to make dark brown sugar as dark brown sugar not easily available here in India and if so it is very expensive:(

If you don't have cream of tartar , you can use citric acid!
Or even lemon juice or vinegar
Can i use brown sugar instead of dark sugar ang what if i dont have a tartar? Can i use only the lemon
Yes, to both.
hi, what is the substitute if i only have light brown sugar? and how many days it can stand in the freezer or refrigerator?
You can use light brown sugar but the result will be lighter in color and taste.
Well sealed jars of molasses should be stored in a cool, dry, dark location and will last for up to one year. NO need to freeze or refrigerate it.
Hi Gemma...i have a question...can i use cream of tartar while making caramel also? Coz molasses i use store bought but caramel i prefer homemade...only when i make lesser quantity it turns out smooth but as i try to make a larger batch it gets crystallised. Pls suggest.
You can read through my caramel making guide to help you prevent that 😉www.biggerbolderbaking.com/how-to-make-caramel/
