Once you chop your first plant, you will never look back. It’s kind of addicting. Propagation is one of the most rewarding parts of owning plants! Getting to say you create a whole new plant out of one chop, wow! As far as etiolated succulents, why do I recommend cutting? The health of the top portion of the plant will have stretched stems, weak growth, and be pale in color.
What do I do if there's just simply not enough light in my house for my succulents? Do I have to get them a grow light or is there something else I can do?
One thing that really helped me understand how infrequently to water was reading about them living in the desert. It hardly rains there, but when it does, it comes down.
I never thought that watching content about house plants would be me but here I am. I love your content and your positive energy. Keep making these videos.
This is literally coming at such a perfect time, i have a severely etiolated succulent that all of the leaves have fallen off of the bottom stem, and I’ve been super curious about it when I chop leaves will grow from the stump
I chopped one of my first succs a few weeks back and I was terrified! But now it has some itty-bitty new growth on it and the top part is taking quite nicely!
Wow I’ve just received this same succulent as a gift and it’s tall like the top of yours was, I had no idea it could grow like this. I was going tomorrow to buy a few more pots to regrow them and I’m so excited
I have a tray of succulents propagating and I checked today and they have roots! I haven't been having much luck with plant cuttings lately so this made me very happy
I'm so scared to give my pathos a trim but I keep watching your video where you did it to yours (mine is probably the same length!) And maybe this weekend I'll get the courage!!
I also recently chopped the head off one of my babies and let me tell you: It takes time! For a while (maybe multiple weeks) nothing happens but dont loose hope, if it's a healthy plant it will put out new growth eventually!
Ooh I chop n prop my pothos often! It makes mama plant bushier and less leggy and they propagate super easy so then I get new plants and I love gifting them.
I just started propagating after getting some of the glass wall vases. It's so exciting to watch for new roots. Kinda like when your baby says mama for the first time. Your heart has a little explosion 😂
Succulents need SO much light. If you live somewhere northern (like Wisconsin, Montana, etc.) There literally won’t naturally be enough daylight hours even in a south-facing window. And putting them in a sunnier place won’t help because it’s about time not intensity. They’ll just get burnt. They actually need a ton of water (bottom watered soaked weekly even) to grow really big but they need enough light to regrow any roots that form rot. Took me years to learn this. They need grow lights or lower latitudes’ sun to live. More light = better roots. People can get them to “live” watered once monthly with 6 or less hours of light daily, but they won’t get bigger and with one bad watering they’ll die instantly. (And then they blame bad watering when really it was bad lighting the whole time)
These (or similar ones from the same family) grow on neglected rooftops in my region of origin and it has been funny to see how they have become popular over the years. We call them "verol" or "verode" there.
We call those roosters, if we let them go they usually will form little seed pods at the top. I try to cut them off because they are not nice to look at.
Okay Okay Okay, when she said "Just like that" I immediately her the pasta queens voice "just gorgeous❤". And now I really wanna see a video where she instructs plantcare like she was pastaqueen!😆😍😂🍝🪴
Everyone has their own blend, but if you start with a good cactus and succulent potting mix like she uses (Espoma), you can modify it with perlite/pumice, etc. I suggest reading a few articles or watching a few videos to get an idea of what to do, it's really more about feel than exact ratios. Also take a look back at her previous videos as I think she has shown what she uses before.
Yes 100% correct also there is a misunderstanding that many think that succulents don’t need much water and I’m so happy for the way U explained it in this video TY🪴🌼🌻🌺
@@taylorlapointe8329 underwatered leaves are kinda wrinkly and soft ( not mushy ) where as rotten leaves usually have a colour change (mostly yellowy) and are mushy
I think it depends on the kind of plant. I have fully south facing bay windows and my softer leaved plants would scorch if left there, even my snake plant wasn’t a fan. My jades and succulents are super happy though, even the dragon tree seems to like it as close to the glass as possible.
@WildFireWoo I have only west facing windows so the past noon scorching sun. Nothing seems to like it besides a few immortal cacti and surprisingly my croton tree. I too have a snake plant but that does fine in mostly shade. That b is also quite immortal
why does my orchids roots get mushy when ive been trying to grow it in water and the roots are barely touching the water??? Ive started to grow it in water for the past month im trying real hard to keep it alive cause its got these big bright purple blooms
Can anyone please help with advice? My succulent's stems got very soft and squishy recently. I tried cutting and repotting it but the stems that were healthy during repotting became squishy after few days. I checked the soil it's not even remotely wet. While repotting, I ensured to use fresh dry soil and potting mix. But my plant is still dying. It was beautiful, but now barely surviving. Can it be any sort of fungi?
@@patricaowens it might be! I've tried neem oil and spraying/soaking them in water, I've ever tried scraping them all off individually with an exacto knife and I swear they just keep coming back :(
Sedums (which is the genus of your plant) are like this echeveria in propagation so yes you can chop the top and replant both the top and even leaves to grow more.

how often should we water the succulent?
You're like the real life flora from winx club, lol. I'm a tad jealous.
Have to add, if you don't have a South facing window, use a grow light close to your succulent
Succulents do better in white light that is not more than a foot away(depends on the power of the light though)

This video came at the perfect time as I’ve been wondering if it would continue to grow. Thank you!

Pathos are some very resilient plants, you can afford to get it wrong and try again ☺️ But I doubt you’ll have problems

I think if they are consistently getting root rot they are over watered

How often do you water the new sprouts of succulents?
Okay so tell me what app or software you used to make your voiceover sooo goood ???
Did you root the piece you cut off?

Could you make a short about how to make the soil mix for succulent, cactus, etc?

What did you do with the chopped portion 🌿?
But why chop? Is it bad to just leave it like that or do I just have weirdly elongated succulent if I don't?
Why is it bad that it’s stretched out?

It can, yes, but mushy, rotten leaves feel different than thirsty leaves, in my opinion.

How do you propagate the portion that was cut off?
Plop off those bottom leaves, let the cut tip dry (something this thin would take a few hours) and then place the stem in a succulent soil mix.

Sounds like it may have rotted, unfortunately. If you can rescue any of the "leaves," you should be able to propagate it.
