Loading a upright water tank on the north slope of Alaska. Check out this video of pulling a fuel truck out of a snowbank using my pick-up truck! • Ford pickup pulls out ...
For a minute there, I thought the tank was going to fall over onto the bed of the truck and wreck it. Then the tail of the bed hit the tank and the truck stopped. The driver then applied enough tension to the cable to slowly bring the tank onto the bed of the truck, using the tail of the truck as a pivot point. Pretty slick maneuver, if you ask me. The driver really knows his stuff.
@TRSF1 Peterbuilts are awesome, i drove a flatdeck and would really give it the gears and pour on the coals! Their clutch is weirdly mounted in the floor that some people hate but who cares, clutch is only for starting off then its gear jammin time!
@ituned It comes out at the very rear of the truck. So you can hook it to the bottom of the tank and pull it down then push it up...I think I have another video posted of that being done
@hakitako Looks legit to me. The way the driver moves forward as the load moves past it's center of gravity which stops it from simply crashing down. Then the tank is unbalanced on the tail of the rig which is why it tips back again, the cable holds the tank from standing upright again. Just physics and good driving.
I just happened to come back to this video, and I was wondering; does he stop there, or does he pull the tank all the way onto the truck? Seems kind of unsafe the way it is, barely balanced like that. If that is where it stays, then why? To put the weight directly over the axles? I wish I knew more about this stuff. But then I wish that I knew about everything.
thats some definite skill right there. it dont even hit anything hard all, very smooth. good job. question: how long did it take this guy to learn to do that, or how long has he been doing this?
not that truckers first rodeo. I would have lost money, I'd bet, well would have bet a mess trying to load. Shows what a person can do when a job needs doing.
There's one way: put some slack on the wire rope, drive backwards and sudden stop. The wire rope will allow to move the tank until it reaches the slack. Repeat the process until the tank is over the ground.
I expected the cable to snap, the truck to tip over, something to slam back on the ground... ANYTHING! Instead, I must say that for as idiotic as it is to carry a tank that size on a truck smaller than itself (such as this), the driver was pretty damn smooth in getting it up there.
I thought that the tank might hit the winch and the top of cab for just a second. But he pulled up at just the right moment. Nice job. Just gotta love Big Boy Tonka Truck toys.
I think it's because the video is 'smushed' the resolution is squashed to make it square instead of rectangular. it kept the height, but reduced the width. the results are rather jarring.
@cannonfirexm ...And yet at this time, my comment has the most thumbs-up, meaning more than a few agree with my statement(s). I may not be educated in hauling heavy loads, but I simply posted what my opinion of this whole thing was based on my experience. PS: I actually like playing with Legos.
There is another winch at the rear...like where the licence plate is, you then pull on that one, release the main and backup, pushing it upright...Good question!
Well done! A white male... Shocking. I would have thought it was a woman, talking / texting on her Smart phone, like Asian in her BMW, they are the superior drives on the ROAD! This should be watch by all drivers on control, skill, and excellent work.
Worked the "oil patch" for 22 years, this is a simple job when you do it all the time....Looks like a good hand to have around.....Thumbs up......

Like a boss! That took experience.
Flawless timing there.
At first I was like "sketchyyyy" then I was like "wow"
that guy's got skills
And the driver said "Tank U!"
wow that thing was more balanced than i thought it would of been lol
you can see it's not a first time. Brilliant
Nice work. Got it down Pat.
saw this quite often at my old work...except the tank was used for our animal feed bi-product and they used a 4 axel truck.
@hakitako Its just the camera lens the tank is 25' tall
He has done that before, nice loading!
@TRSF1 Peterbuilts are awesome, i drove a flatdeck and would really give it the gears and pour on the coals! Their clutch is weirdly mounted in the floor that some people hate but who cares, clutch is only for starting off then its gear jammin time!
now that is a sweet bit of work in some order :)
they load alot easier with the cable rigged to the top crossmember of the tank. But i know it depends on where they put the sling on the tank
@ituned It comes out at the very rear of the truck. So you can hook it to the bottom of the tank and pull it down then push it up...I think I have another video posted of that being done
This is how he brings his mother in law back home again.
There's a certain element of skill there, crude though it may be!
Looks like it shrunk substantially midway down?
lol i have the same impression. Perspective !
wrong aspect ratio, the video has been filmed in 16:9, but displayed in 4:3. That cause it to be horisontally compressed, hence the shrinkage
thephantom1492 Interesting. No wonder I love science yet hate it at the same time.
Yeah, it's a lot shorter on the truck than when standing up. I need a truck that will do that.

that mans got some skills
it is nice when they have the skid welded t a 210 tank we never had that lol
yep i was thinking this is gonna be a ruff ride when it comes down fooled me
thats some definite skill right there. it dont even hit anything hard all, very smooth. good job. question: how long did it take this guy to learn to do that, or how long has he been doing this?
a thing of beauty.
Winch trucks definitely winch things.
He made that look easy. Very nicely done!
@ituned No. You have to reverse sidewards. Otherwise it wont work.
not that truckers first rodeo. I would have lost money, I'd bet, well would have bet a mess trying to load. Shows what a person can do when a job needs doing.
Great Work...Great Work
Nice job
That guy rocks !! :) Great job !
That tank must have been 1/4 or 1/2 filled which made it even easier. I think?
Empty would have looked different.
@ituned there is a winch in the back
Damn the driver is a pro! :d
There's one way: put some slack on the wire rope, drive backwards and sudden stop. The wire rope will allow to move the tank until it reaches the slack. Repeat the process until the tank is over the ground.
Excellent Job! Well Done! Good Vid, thanks!
That's pretty fuckin impressive, definitely not this guys first rodeo.
it was just so expected but it all went just as planned
I expected the cable to snap, the truck to tip over, something to slam back on the ground... ANYTHING!

This Guy...
He's Cool.
@hakitako Have you heard of lens distorsion? Pinch and cushion.. Wow.. You should work for NSA...
Wow thats beautifull!!!
Haha, I guess it does it must be the camera ratio..Its really five thousand feet tall
Does the tank shrink? xD it seems to be probably two times bigger before getting on the truck :D
Have to watch out for all the low bridges with that on your back...
magic, how the tank appear long when its standing up, and then tiny horizontal.
i thought it wasnt going to end very well when i started watching it lol
American technology at it's finest
Very nice. Always wondered how you these winch trucks worked.
@flubbzer I don't even know what Wather is, but it sounds Crazy!!
i might be crazy but it looks like the tank got 25% shorter as it was loaded on the truck????????????????
Impressive.
I want a tank about that size to make a storm shelter.
Simply beautiful.
really smooth...thought it was gonna be harsher
nice operator
@demonxanthwataru...same here, actually was nice to watch
impressive
NICE !!
Quality !!!,there is a guy who KNOWS what he's doing and doing it well, well done that man
aint his first bbq now is it?
He could probably pick up an egg with an excavator.
I thought that the tank might hit the winch and the top of cab for just a second. But he pulled up at just the right moment. Nice job. Just gotta love Big Boy Tonka Truck toys.
How can that guy walk around with ball that big??
It's magic! I must know how they shrunk the tank to half it's size when tipped over!
Damn! That was so quiet, he could have stolen it in the middle of the night, and no one would have known!
this is so cool...
Why didn't the truck suspension move at all?
Ralph L Physics, it weighs more.
Ralph L It did. The tank has to be empty.
Nearly all tandem axle oilfield winch trucks have walking beam rear suspension because a spring or airbag suspension isn't fit for the tasks at hand.
I think it's because the video is 'smushed' the resolution is squashed to make it square instead of rectangular. it kept the height, but reduced the width. the results are rather jarring.
That's easy,,it's called a Tilt,slides right off.
hahahaha... i thought that truck could be jump but I was wrong
thats one way to do it
can you let that hit the bed at 12 am to wake me up
hats off
Bravo!
Thats SKILLL!!!
@ENTERRAPTURE20 whats this got to do with loading a tank onto a truck.
this is really pro
balls of steel
Amazing!!!
That was extremely impressive. Honestly was not expecting that to go that well lol
great job he knows what hes doing alright
Like a boss.
It's great to see good operators that know what they doing.
this is on a oil lease right?
Definitely not his first time at the rodeo
"i aint got time for this shit i gotta go"
@cannonfirexm

That shit shrunk!
it's all fun and games until wind decided to join in the party and ruining the alignment causing it to slip off the chassis and fell
props.

@Alaskaforby4
KLar..Wozu gibt es Hakenlifte und Abroller...
Like a boss..
@MegaMARKstudios Of course I was joking. I just thought it was funny how the thing looked like it shrunk. Must be a weird camera thing
i came to expect devastating stupidity... i am disappointed to see that nothing went wrong
